Tucker's aggressive nature.

JT arguably can be labeleted the best kicker in the game.  We all love his passion, skill and willingness to stick his nose in the mix when/if necessary.  But in light of Shaun Suisham's ACL tear, do you think Tucker should be a little smarter in his attempts to stop a return?  EVERY time he gets involved in a tackle, I cringe.  There's no doubt in my mind that he's fearless and has the heart to get the job done, but is that something we really want him doing.   

 

Of course if he's the last man standing between the endzone and the returner I won't him to stop him.  But if there's a scrum to the ball carrier, he doesn't need to be involved.

Not really an issue for me- the injury to the steelers kicker was kind of a fluke thing- and tucker won't be in that position very often anyway bc he rarely ever gets his kicks blocked. As far as kickoffs , if he's the last man between the returner and the endzone he's going to do what he's gotta do, if he gets injured that's just the nature of the game. We can't protect all of our star players 24/7- when it comes down to it we have to let them play and let the chips fall where they may.

As far as making tackles like that in the preseason id agree with you there - that's a no no. Just let the guy score and live to kick another day.

Tucker's aggressiveness is actually a good thing IMO. If you look at the play the Steeler kicker got hurt on it looked like he was going halfway for the tackle. What do NFL players always say? Its when you play not to get hurt is when you get hurt. Tucker won't prance around and flail like other kickers. He will square up and attacked the ball carrier.

For me, it would have to depend on the seriousness of the game. Definitely not in a preseason game.

JT definitely needs to be careful throwing himself into scrums. Suisham's knee injury was flukey, but I do worry about Kickers getting concussions when they throw themselves in the mix.

I can only remember him doing that in a steelers game a while ago. He jumped into one at the beginning of a play and later in that same game on an onside kick he got injuried or something. Ever since then I hardly even notice his Presense on the field on kickoffs.

I think that Justin Tucker is a football player, and therefore he should play football. That means making tackles when necessary.

Its a pride thing...he kicked it...he doesnt want someone scoring on him.

When he was drafted I'm sure there was something said about him leading his college team in special team tackles.
I've just had a quick check, over 4 years he made 17 solo tackles and 4 assists.

Yes.  I admired the play but realized we could have lost a prime player. He is "tough as nails"

asking justin tucker not to tackle a kick returner is like asking a pitcher not to catch a hit ball coming his way. its part of the game.

 

plus, tuckers aggressiveness is a huge advantage because it adds another man on the field for us, compared to most other kickers.
