[News] Former Patriot Kyle Arrington Adjusting To Ravens

21 posts in this topic

Arrington, Lewis, Hill, Smith and Webb will be an amazing backfield to go with Mosley, Smith, Suggs, Doom, Williams and Jernigan! The best 11 you can field in pass protection!

Former Pat? I don't remember all that.. I remember the day he became a Raven lol

Absolutely, life begins for football players when they sign a Ravens contract.  Prior to that, as far as we are concerned, they simply don't exist.  They simply ooze through this sub-Raven primordial NFL culture and the zap of becoming a Raven actually brings them to life.  Kind of like player evolution.

Based on what I've seen and heard from Webby, I wouldn't be shocked to see this dude slotted as the No.2 corner.

It's already being talked about.

It doesn't really matter who is 2 or 3.They'll both end up playing close to the same time and our DB's don't trail WR's so the rankings don't really mean much.

Problem is, Kyle has supposedly been  burned badly on the outside and is much better in the slot.

No way Arrington beats out Webb on the outside, ask any Pats fan and they'll tell you: Arrignton should never be on the outside. He's a starting caliber slot corner through and through and thats where he'll be come week 1.

It is in our best interests to see Webb playing at a high enough level to hold down the outside CB (#2 CB, if you wish) and have Arrington be the slot (nickel) CB. That's what the team envisioned when they brought him in.

Webb has played well on the outside, but we haven't seen it in a while. We are all hoping he can regain form. Maybe this down period has been all about his health. Whether that's true and whether he can stay healthy, that's the big question.

It might be foolish, but I think it is still within the realm of possibility.

Also, contrary to earlier reports it seems he's been doing great on the outside in TC lately. Can anyone elaborate on that?

It's been 2 years since Webb played well as a starting NFL corner. He looked like a fool last year. Injuries??? I don't know but it looks more like he had one great year where he played above all expectations. He may be able to handle the corner if Smith Hill and Lewis are in there with him. Expecting him to return to form as a shutdown corner is unrealistic. If he does we will have one of the best secondaries in the NFL. My guess is that Melvin or Walker beats him out for the other starting corner. I have no idea about Cassius Vaughn but our luck with Raider rejects is not good.

Webb or no Webb, this defense looks pretty solid from front to back and has some decent quality depth. I'll be happy if and when brooks gets back in the saddle and if KLM stays healthy. The wild card that looks promising is Z. Smith as McPhee 2.0...I think he steps in and makes a lot of plays for us this year.

Arrington can be counted on to perform his role as long as Smith Hill and Lewis are doing the heavy lifting. He is a feisty competitor that will be an upgrade to the secondary over last year's abomination. He is a determined guy that will apply himself but a savior he is not.

I've seen him plenty of times when his team consistently won their games and division.  However, he is in the North where our rivals are always super tough. Jets, Bills and Dolphins are different than our blood bath foes.  At the mid point in the season Mink should interview him and ask his opinion with emphasis on the rivals.  I would be interested in that.  I'm glad we have him.

arrington is one of those corey graham types. he is quietly one of the best in the league at his specialized role, just like any other patriots defender he doesnt get half the credit he deserves. a classic ozzie pickup and the type of signing that makes the ravens such a consistent organization. also, this is the PERFECT kind of DB to cover the likes of antonio brown, andrew hawkins, those shifty quick guys that ate us up last year.

i'd call it hype until we can see otherwise, but who knows, maybe getting cut lit a fire under him

I look for good things from Arrington! After all, he had Reavis as a tutor!

Reavis could not hold Ed Reed water bottle and why is he not hear helping?

They were two different style players!

Reavis is a consummate "man-on-man" professional and Ed Reed couldn't hold a Reavis' water bottle playing "man"! Ed Read was a "Ball Hawking Center-fielder" - two entirely different styles, and, therefore, he couldn't hold Ed's bottle playing deep middle!!  :sherlock:

And,.. to answer your "why he's not here helping" question; 4 words: Because it's a business!   :oldwiseman:
