Steve Smith announces retirement after this season.

56 posts in this topic

This is definitely worthy of it's own post.  Steve Smith just announced that he will retire after this season.  I hope we can send him out the same way we did Ray Lewis.  I truly wish he was with us for at least half of his career.

No. You make the announcement after you go to the playoffs.

Nevertheless. Steve's last ride is worth it. He's a player who deserves to go out on top. Let's do it

Kind of sad in soooo many ways.  I wish he had been a Raven longer.  Just another reason to take this all the way, Boys.

Let's see if we can catch lightning in a bottle again and send him out with the ring he deserves!

He hasn't even been here two full years and it seems like he's been with us forever.

I can't imagine what it would have been like to have him and Boldin at the same time.

He is going out on his terms. I like that. He is probably going to give it all he has so that he can try for a ring. I am sure that will be a good thing. It will rub off on other guys. Guys will not want to let him down and because SSS is liked, they will want to push hard to get him that ring. I am good with the announcement. It is good timing.

Let's get him that ring!

Side note : Wouldn't it be funny if we played the panthers in the super bowl? It's unlikely on the panthers part, but Its technically possible!

Ah...only 2 season watching the master at work.   Lets get to the superbowl.   This time, we give him the ring and finish his career with a bang.

This is a solid group of men with a lot of talent.   Lets get this DONE!

THREE TIME SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!!!

It's been a joy having him around.  He brings that high level of energy.  Here's hoping to him going nuts in his final year.  Go out with a bang.

This is a decision that Smitty was willing to make a couple years ago but when the Panthers dogged him it adddd fuel to his fire. This guy is definitely a Raven and even though he wasn't drafted here, in this case it's truly a matter of not about where you start but where you finish.

It already would have been a need, but now, OLB and WR are at the top of the list for needs next year.

On OLB ... definitely based on the age of Suggs and Doom.

On WR ... maybe .. but perhaps we should see how this season plays out before we define our needs for 2016. We've no idea what we may or may not get from the young WRs we currently have on the roster. If all things align, we may not need to aggressively pursue a WR in FA or draft.

His retirement is right on target cuz we need a strong season so we have to have playoffs at home and the Pats are scared to play in the Ravens' house.  They know the butt whooping coming from weeks away......

honestly when we first signed him, i thought he was gonna retire after his first year here.

after seeing him play at such a high level i figured he would come back for at least one more year.

not surprised to hear this at all, glad he became a raven, and glad he thinks so highly of this organization.

lets send him out on top!

Not surprising.  I believe when he signed with us, many reported that the intention was always to play 2 out of the 3 years on his deal.

Glad he came here.  I feel like he was a guy always meant to be a Raven with that toughness and tenacity.  Time to send him out with some jewelry.

Makes me sad, but we knew that he was staying for only two years. Like some have said, it feels like he's been here for years.

He deserves a ring.

Superbowl champion and then the HOF

Agreed. The need for a WR will greatly depend on how Perriman, Butler, and Waller pan out. As it stands without SSS; Perriman, Aiken, Brown, and Butler isn't a bad receiving corp. Could use some improving but it wouldn't be top priority.

I have LOVED having him as a RAVEN.

One of my favorite players for sure.

It would be great to give him a ring as a retirement gift.

BTW, I would not be surprised if he signs a one day with Carolina to retire a Panther. I actually think he should and I have no problem with that.

Getting Steve a ring would be one of my fondest moments as a Raven fan - Go Ravens!

Besides OLB I think safety might be one of the highest priorities next year. If Terrence Brooks doesn't pan out and we lose Hill to FA, then we're pretty toast back there. Kendrick Lewis still has yet to produce for us in the regular season.

I'm not too worried though, we have the best FO in the game.

Such a pleasure being a Ravens fan, I really found a keeper when I got into football in 2010.

Probably the right time. He's slowing down, but is still a good player. I hate watching great players who don't know when to call it quits just slowly get worse and worse.

SSS quickly became one of my favorite Ravens. He plays like a Raven and has the heart of a Raven. We need to get him a ring....
