2015 Preseason

That trade with the Eagles is a good move. I feel Boykin was worth a fifth round draft pick and they are going to need him this season.

IMO, they stole him from Philly

Motion passes. Jealousy approved.

Not me really, Boykin is basically the same player as Arrington - good in the slot.

It's telling that he wanted to play on the outside, but Philly didn't want him out there.

The Steelers losing might be the worst thing for us. I believe teams learn more from a preseason loss than a win.

So if we lose against the Saints Thursday, all is good in the AFC North???

I wouldn't go that far. Boykin is significantly better than Arrington. I've followed the situation relatively closely and his size was the main deterrent for the coaching staff in Philadelphia. They've been somewhat enamored with the idea of having 6'0 CBs on the outside hence their additions of Bradley Fletcher, Cary Williams, Byron Maxwell and Eric Rowe over the last few years. It's only the preseason, but Boykin is off to a good start on the outside, allowing just 2 catches for 6 yards last night.

According to PFF and whatever bizarre way they get to ranking their cornerbacks, Boykin was the 6th best CB last year. Philly didn't want him out because he wasn't good at it. They didn't put him out there because they have some insane notion that just because you aren't 6'2 and can play press man that you aren't a solid CB.

Arrington was rated the 3rd easiest CB to throw on, in terms of fantasy production. He was only behind Ike Taylor (he was abysmal last year) and Sheerece Wright from SD. I talked about this in another thread, that rating just goes to show how bad Arrington is when having to line up outside. I couldn't find any numbers of his production solely in the slot.

Taking my purple shades off, Boykin is a superior talent than Arrington.

Yes, as long as we learn and grow from it. Preseason is about fixing your problems, not winning. How many times have we seen teams have winning preseasons then pretty much suck when the regular season starts?

Didn't Detroit go 4-0 in the preseason before going 0-16? Not that couldn't have fixed their earlier mistakes, mind.

I know depth charts don't mean anything week one of the preseason. Though out of interest for week one against the Broncos, it will be interesting to see what the starting offensive line will be for them. The current depth chart stands as this heading into this weekend's games.

Left Tackle: Ty Sambrailo (Rookie)

Left Guard: Max Garcia(Rookie)

Center: Matt Paradis(6th round pick last year, spent last season on practice squad, Gino is second on the depth chart)

RG: Louis Vasquez

RT: Ryan Harris

I may record all the Broncos preseason games on NFL Network just to see how this plays out.

That right side is solid

Guess if there is anything to note for tonight, Patriots are the first team to go for 2 under the new rules and they succeeded.

Anyone looking forward to any of the Friday or Saturday games?

Man, Jimmy looked bad tonight. Here are the first nine drives by him as someone posted the results on Twitter. So outside of a rushing TD and a FG, Pats offense looked horrible without Brady.

FROM TWITTER

Jimmy G's 9 drives: Gray 55-yard TD, punt, punt, 56-yard FG, INT, turn over on downs, punt, turn over on downs, punt.

We got our hands full with that Steelers offense. You guys think Jimmy Smith would be put on Bryant?

By the way, Mariota looked solid on his third drive after his first two rough drives.

I'd continue to do what we've been doing the past few years. Other than that one game last year we seem to hold up pretty well against them.

Yeah, that won't happen, hopefully. Anyone else in our secondary against Antonio Brown is just scary.

Giants secondary looking rough. We know their thin at corner because Chyke is starting for them, and it could be worst if Landon Collins misses anytime, or at worst his knee injury turns into a season ending ACL injury.

Thank god we didn't draft Pete Konz. Dodged a damn bullet there.

Yeah, we still ended up with Gino but at least that was in the 4th round

Pretty much my thoughts on that, I'd rather Bryant be on our #2 as opposed to Brown

Yeah but we also ended up getting KO a few picks after Konz was taken.
