[News] Who Takes Brent Urban's Snaps?

34 posts in this topic

I just hope Urban lets his body rest and does not rush it. We have really not seen KLM since he came to Baltimore it would be nice to see what he can do but ultimately I want to see the one who earns it. The best 53 guys next man up.

They forgot to mention Steven Means who is built more like a 3-4 linebacker at 6'3'' 260lbs, but he's still listed as a DE. He is supposedly a good pass rusher based off what was said of him in camp. I don't think he's an every down player, but I could see him coming in on pass rushing situations and sharing snaps with whomever the main guy is. You'd have to think the Ravens would go with the veteran Canty. Tyson has been around for awhile and so far has only shown a flash. Time for some "Next Man Up." Who is gonna step up and claim that spot? Which ever guy claims that number two spot is in line for some pretty significant playing time. It would be nice to see Lewis-Moore stay healthy and display some of that talent we've been hearing about for the last few seasons.

Our 8 DL will be: Williams, Jernigan, Canty, Davis, Guy, Lewis-Moore, Tyson, and Means. I don't have Bilikudi making the team, and I had Means as the first Defensive guy to miss the cut. But with Urban out, I think Means gets his spot. He's an DE that can rush the passer, Bilikudi is more of a run stopper.

Urban could be back at the beginning of Nov. I'd wait and see how the team injuries go then decide whether to put Urban or Elam on the "return IR".

With only four days to the Ravens first preseason game, the clock is counting down, but the Ravens will be ready to set the tone for the season. The coaching staff will focus particularly on the Dbs and O-line. Ravens will not be doing anything fancy on either side of the line of scrimmage, but that will not preclude outstanding straight-up, smart power football. Make no mistake about it, roster positions are on the table. Expect the Ravens' fever to spread as they continue to tune-up for the regular season. The Ravens' SB mission message is clear: Focused execution every play, every day! Get the football, Keep the football.

Sorry we lost urban. Coach Harbaugh says Chris Caty is playing like he's in his early 20's. I hope he can step it up and maybe help fill this roll.

As I stated in a post in another thread I think the starters are all figured out. The only thing on the line "starting" job on the line right now is kick and punt returner. Everything else is depth charts and roster spots. The pre season isn't really going to showcase anything new in the playbook, but what you will be looking for are guys simply executing the plays that are called. It is one thing to perform in camp and in controlled conditions. It is another thing to go up against live competition. Anybody else gonna watch the Hall of Fame game tonight? Sure it isn't the Ravens, but it will be one of our division rivals. Be interesting to see how that Steelers defense does now without some of the icons on it. People thought the Ravens defense would collapse without Reed and Lewis. Let's see how the Steelers recover without Kiesel and Polomalu.

One of them for sure are going on the IR, if not both. Frees up roster spots to bring in more bodies that you can bring in and play and also don't have to put any pressure on the guys trying to come back too soon. We've got plenty of depth at DL and while I'd like to have Elam in the mix at safety, Will Hill was most likely going to be the starter anyway and we've got some impressive depth. I think Anthony Levine will surprise some people in an expanded role.

lets hope def end is not the position that kills us this season.

In a 3-4 an end is not really as crucial as it is in a 4-3. Sure you'd love to have a penetrator that can rush the QB, but since you have an extra backer you use that to "hide" that 4th rusher. What you really need is a guy who can at least hold the line of scrimmage and eat up blockers for your rushers and hopefully he can help set the edge on run plays. I think with the depth we have at the position we'll have people good enough to keep the defense strong. Jernigan being a gasher at DT will help out a lot and you have to remember we've got a pair of pretty good edge rushers in Suggs and Dumervil. Don't forget that we've also got Upshaw that we could perhaps slot into that DE role from time to time. He's a bigger OLB, even for a 3-4 backer.

Get well soon Urban.

I hope Jernigan and Brandon Williams take another positive step in their development. Both have probowl potential and it's time to unleash. Canty played hurt all of last year and still could start on most NFL teams if healthy.

Now all the young guns fighting for playing time behind those 3 will get plenty of opportunities. Well see how good they are in preseason.

I'm not concerned at all because our Dline is still one of the deepest in the NFL. It really is a matter of how long it takes for Davis, Jerningan, and Williams to emerge as superstars.

I like Canty and happy to see he's fresh. I hope he stays fresh at lest up to half the season and injuries don't take a toll. However, I trust our D-line will perform well.

I really wanted to see Urban come back and stay healthy this year because we could use that size of his on our line, but we do have some young guys with a nasty streak that could get after it. We will be fine. Jernigan and Williams better come out after the first half in preseason and sit out entirely in the fourth game, because we can't afford to lose either one of them.

At first I thought the Ravens would need to sign another DT after losing Urban, but looking at the depth we have, we don't need anyone else. If Lewis-Moore stays healthy and plays like he did at ND, the D-line will be great. If everyone steps it up one notch, this D could be better than 2000.

Just thought about it but during preseason when Flacco doesn't play... might be some really upset fans if he continues to throw picks and gonna make the wr competition rather difficult to judge if passes are off target

Sounds from Harb's presser the injuries for the most part are healing and almost ready to come back just nagging stuff with the exception of course with Urban and Elam. Even Max Williams with the eye injury should be back soon

Depth will help us with Elam and Urban but i wanted badly to see Perriman and Williams cuz those guys have potential to be big this year and reps for them are crucial

The injury bug is biting us again this year... Urban, Elam and Perriman one after another. Let's hope it doesn't continue like last year.

Perriman will be back, only the beginning of camp, Elam, and Urban injuries stink, but those are two positions we do have solid depth.....We can't really afford any of the LBers to get hurt, that is where we are thin, with solid vets, then un-proven youngsters.....

Two bicep tears in one training camp. That must be odd. And maybe it's not a coincidence. I wonder if the Ravens training staff is trying to figure out the cause. Perhaps they're doing something wrong with the younger guys in terms of their weight training? I'm not an expert at all. But it just occurs to me that maybe there's a reason these two bicep injuries have happened.

I don't think our defense makes that jump quite yet, but I can see next years D being the #1 overall defense with these young guy growing and gaining chemistry. I think just with the new roles being played and new guys coming in this season the D is going to start slow. I think by the end of the season this defense will really start to click and teams in the playoffs are going to be in for a surprise.

I would certainly like to see DeAngelo Tyson get a chance to get more playing time again this season, and possibly have a bigger impact. I've always thought he was a very solid player. It would be cool to see him rise from solid, into "very good".

The Steelers defense looks horrible. Joe will tear this defense apart.

Hopefully so, but keep in mind, that better half of their defense was roaming the sidelines in street clothes.
