[News] Brent Urban Out 12-14 Weeks With Torn Biceps

28 posts in this topic

Well, he's never contributed a down so far, so the Ravens have lost nothing. Players like Tyson, Guy and Canty, who bust their butts will get the playing time they deserve. Just a matter of time till Moore goes down.

This is a real bummer, was hoping to see Urban break out this year and do good things. Wishing him a speedy recovery and bounce back once again.

Who's Moore?  :)

Definitely hoping him a speedy and full recovery but would be surprised if they use the designated to return on either (would expect them to hold on to that just in case Flacco or another key player gets hurt but we'll see I guess

Poor guy can't catch a break. Maybe the defense should go back to tackling drills. 2nd time already for someone reaching. To say the Ravens lose nothing isn't exactly correct. They lose a valuable bench player who could rotate and allow the others to stay fresh. I think the reason our D has been good for so long is because we continue to rotate defenders in and out

if they give him the DTR list, something tells me he comes back after 14 weeks, gets his feet wet, and catches fire come playoff time..

just a gut feeling

Was really looking forward to seeing what he could do. Only silver lining (like Elam) is at least they got injured now instead of week 1 when the roster was cut down and most vets are entrenched with their teams. This way, the team knows he is down and out and they can still choose the best 53 either from the guys in camp or get depth from other team cuts/trades. It sucks though. Never want to see a guy go down. One day hopefully he gets a chance to play a down.

May be just me but I think we should just move on. This guy to me seems like history. He is injured all of the time. I think if he can stay healthy we would be better off with Kapron Lewis-Moore. Once again someone who needs to stay healthy but I always saw more upside in him. Then again that is just my opinion and we all have one.

Can they just let him stay active, and heal from his injuries?? Get him back late season week 12-13 or so..

But IR Designate to return if I remember correctly can only be used for 1 player per team, per year. Now Brent Urban is a nice player but Im not using IR Designate to return on him, because with a whole preseason to go and 16 game plus hopefully playoffs any of our core pillar franchise players could go down long term but not season ending, like Ray Lewis did before. Pick a name on our Defense..Sizzle,Dum,Jimmy, etc those are IR Designate type players.

Now I know you can do unlimited PUP and unlimited IR, but if he has a legitimate return possibility to return later in season IR is not an option because then the player is gone for the year. So I would suggest PUP List him that will get you to week 6 of the regular season, then carry him as a activity member of the roster who's not suiting up on game day. Kind of like they did all year last year with Arthur Brown LBr. Then come week 12-13 he will be ready to play

You can't PUP list him.  It's either IR or IR designated to return.  There's a case to be made for the designated to return for Urban, because we've only used it once in 3 years and he's slated to be available in October.  IR designated to return is a minimum of 8 weeks before you can be activated, so it becomes really tricky because there are so few injuries that have a healing time of 6-8 weeks.  It seems like most are healed in 2-3 week, while the more severe ones are 3-12 months.

Wow... "during his freshman [AT WHERE] year because".

Good to see some nicely finalized and polished writing, Mr. Mink! And you actually had it in previous parts of the article, that Urban went to University of Virginia.

Just a friendly warning Mr. Mink, don't hang around Marshal Yanda much, because he just said during his interview that the thing that frustrates him the most is lazyness:)

As for the injuries, last year it was the Lisfranc injury (also supposedly very uncommon), so this year it's the biceps popping. I don't know what to make of it, sigh. I mean...it seems as if there hasn't been any team the last couple of years who has been at full health at the beginning of the season.

One commenter blamed it on the CBA because apparently it forbids teams to have too many full contact practices so the few times coaches are allowed to do full contact they go all in. But players bodies, which in some cases are buffed up to a breaking point as it is, are not ready for such a big physical contact and stress all of a sudden, thus causing all those uncommon injuries or just some minor injuries occuring way too easily. Don't know if that might be the case?

Brent Urban is snake bit.  What a shame.  We were waiting for his contribution.  I think how frustrated he must be.

Urban can't go on the pup list now.  He has been practicing and once training camp begins and the player has been practicing with the team he is ineligible for the PUP list.

Hurt in camp, in camp, two years in a row? If the guy is that fragile is it worth it to keep him?

This reminds me of a linebacker the Ravens drafted a few years back out of Oklahoma, consecutive years he had knee injuries, needless to say the Ravens gave up on him and released him. Sorry, I can't remember the player's name, maybe someone remembers who I am referencing. Hope, Urban can shake off the injury bug and get back on the field and show why the Ravens drafted him, he was showing promise.

Anyone remember the name linebacker out of Oklahoma the Ravens drafted a few years ago, who on consecutive years injured each knee and the Ravens released him? Talk about no luck. Hope Urban can make it back and be a contributor in our late season run.       :18_1_301:

Hard to fathom that a guy 6'7" with strength to burn can be as fragile as a Tiffany lampshade. If he returns in November, I hope that he shows us his potential greatness and stays injury free. We will need him down the road..

This dude was going to be a beast this year!! I know we have quite a bit of depth on the D-line, but I was seriously looking forward to this guy getting on the field and showing what he can do. Hopefully he's able to come back from his injury and start to shake the obvious "injury prone" label he has.

I'm sure he will not be the last one to go down. These guys needs to stop lifting weights and do more stretching. Bruce Lee didn't need to look like Hulk Hogan to kick your butt.

Brent Urban is getting a rep as one of those guys who has all the "potential" in the world, but can't stay healthy enough to make it a reality. Already he will have missed just about all of two seasons. The Ravens have to ask themselves when enough is enough.
