[News] Report: Brent Urban Has Torn Biceps

The Curse of Kindle is strong. First Kindle himself, then KLM, now Urban. Seems like there's always a guy that just can't quite ever make it to a regular season game.

It's seldom - if ever - the beginning of a productuive career when a player sit out his first two seasons, even if it isn't the sign of a tendency to get injured. Missing the first two seasons of your career is such a huge handicap it takes a truly great player to ever overcome it...

And you can add Ramon Harewood, too. He also seemed to always be injured, throughout his really short career.

Darn that stinks was really looking forward to this dude playing. Here's to a quick and speedy recovery!

Sadly, no way a torn bicep is gonna heal any time soon. It's almost automatically a missed season...

Unfortunate re: Urban but no big surprise. His history tells of the gamble the R's made in selecting him. A 4th round pick lost but it was worth the roll of the dice. As a matter of fact he would have gone much higher if there wasn't a concern with injury related issues. On the bright side Carter is looking good and may be earning a spot as the kick returner and WR.

Injuries will happen and are indeed part of this intense game. Best wishes for full recoveries to all of those players unable to continue on the Ravens' SB mission.

I blame this and what seems like more and more injuries every August throughout the NFL, on the CBA and the inability to have more legitimate "Regular game" style practices.. Now they are basically cupcake walkthroughs for most football players. However when coaches are allowed those 1-2 days to push their players limits like a regular season game in practice, then the bodies are shocked and not ready and breakdown with muscle rips and tears

Injuries will happen I agree, but it is concerning when it is the same players over and over. Some players are blessed with their genetics and some are cursed by them, that is just fact. I am sure it is just a matter of time (if they don't already do it) before they start analyzing Dna and identifying players who have muscle issues (Campanaro), bone issues (Pitta), and those who have muscle-to-bone/ligament-to-bone issues (Urban, Lewis-Moore). Not to say DNA testing will choose a roster, but it will provide supporting information to go along with injury stats to help a team determine after one or two missed seasons, that player isn't ever going to be able to play in the NFL. As we have seen with other players, Ravens usually give these players two years to get it together. By the third year, they had better be productive or they will get cut. I think Lewis-Moore, Elam (because of unproductive years), Urban, M Brown, Pitta and a few others are on their last leg (I know that was a poor idiom to use).

Noooo, not Urban please I can't take it no more injures. I want to see Urban perform could have been Watt potential block passes but can't get on the field because of two injuries he had. I hope he comes back later in the season because the injury is 12 weeks the season have 17 weeks so I hope he could come back later in the season. Please no more ending injures if it's any injury it's only minor. :-( Come back strong Urban.

Doesn't make any sense to designate him to return after 8 weeks if it's a 12 week injury and he hasn't played a down in a real game in his entire career. Next man up.

Crap!I've been itching to see what this guy can do. Even if it was just preseason, I wanted to see him in game action. I think he was injured in college, then last year, and now this injury. I've seen this movie before, and I don't wanna see it again.

Well this is rather disappointing news. I was so looking forward to both Urban and KLM bouncing back from injuries and helping the defense.

Can't forget Dan Cody. He was a 2nd round pick too.

Almost can compare Urban's 2 year journey as a Raven , to that of Dan Cody. Shame too, as I (and every other Raven fan) was looking forward to see this young man's Pass Rushing and Run Stopping abilities.

We will find out who comes up big from now on , into the Season.

This season ending injures better not happen in the preseason or I'm going to be sick. It's ruining the potential and greatness to this team. Please be careful and don't force yourself. Season haven't even started yet.

Reposting my reply from the Scout.com forums... my take on possibly using the IR-Designated to return.

---

Would be interested to see if the team will decide to use the IR-designate to return on either Urban or Elam, assuming (hopefully) there are no other injuries to starters during training camp.

Urban's 12 week recovery time period would put him back as eligible to return around the end of October, which is when the IR/return list would allow him to return.

I believe the only other time we've used this designation in the 3 year period it's been in place was for Ray Lewis when he came back to help us on our Super Bowl run.  Essentially, the list becomes useless if you don't have someone suffer an injury that would take 6-10 weeks to recover... depending on the time of the season it takes place.  If we don't use it on Urban, Elam or another player during pre-season, then we would essentially have to use it on someone else during the first 7 weeks of the regular season for it to make sense.

Personally, taking into account that most 'serious' injuries in the NFL take a minimum of 8-12 weeks to recover from, I'd heavily consider using it on Urban in order to get a fresh face in the defensive rotation halfway through the regular season.  At least if Urban needs an extra 2 weeks past his 12 week recovery period, it would still be week 10-11 that he could come back.
