[News] News And Notes 8/6: Intensity Amps Up In Physical Practice

Nick Perry steps up again. Harbs got mad because the offense scored, hell, I'm happy that the offense is good enough to score on the D. I'm so pumped for the pre season games. Actually, for the regular season.

I thought Ken Weinman of 1057 The Fan made a accurate and excellent point about Jeremy Butler last night on his show, while on a segment with Clifton Brown "wiseman Raven Insider of CSNBMORE"..

All we keep hearing is coach salivating over Butler, because he catches everything "IN PRACTICE" However I remember a Justin Harper who caught everything in practice then come preseason games couldnt catch a cold.

Great point by Ken Weinman. Ill personally take it further and say I remember Laquan Williams was doing great things in practice then did nothing during preseason games.

So the WR battle will not be decided at "PRACTICE" I dont care, we have seen this before. If the guy cant catch the ball during live game action, practice doesnt really matter.

Thats why I cant wait for preseason games.

It sounds like Nick Perry is what the Ravens wanted Matt Elam to be, a play maker and an enforcer in the backfield.

There is definitely some truth to that. You could name some players whose practice performance didn't carry over into the games, but you could also name a lot of players whose practice performance did carry over into the games. So, I agree that practice isn't going to be the only determining factor in whether or not someone makes the team, but I wouldn't say it's insignificant, either. Practicing well does increase the chances of playing well in games, but it doesn't guarantee it.

Why does Tucker have a backup? Didn't Sam Koch make a 60 yard field goal last year in camp?

Probably just a camp body. Doesn't hurt to see what he can do.

I think Jeremy Butler is last year's Kamar Aiken and the previous year's Marlon Brown. Hopefully he'll be better than both and vie for that open starter position. I wouldn't mind Perriman being Wally Pipp if Butler can turn out to be the football version of Lou Gehrig (without the malady of course).

If we can stay healthy, I think our defense is going to be impressive this year. By that I mean early 2000's type impressive.

This is exactly why I made a post in another thread that I am always excited to see the pre season games. Sure the guys won't be going up against the best players in the league when they step on the field, but it gives us a chance to see what these guys can do in actual game situations. Practice is one thing, the game is another. In camp, you know the guy lining up against you pretty well. You know what he does well and what he doesn't do well. When you go up against another team you have to rely on tape or scouting reports. You don't know what he's got until you face him. I definitely don't really pay much attention to what guys are doing in practice. I mean, I am glad they are looking good as opposed to horrible.

Every year we bring in another K/P as a body, who knows, every once in a while you may get surprised, doesn't hurt to bring them in and do some kicking

Elam never got settled at any position to ever be what the Ravens wanted RaineV1. IMO Elam will be on another roster next season at this time.

Elam sucks. How long will it take the Ravens to finally get rid of him? What are they trying to prove? They have made excuses for his poor coverage and inept tackling since day one. Enough is enough. Just ridiculous. Everyone can see he can't do the job. I screamed the loudest when they drafted him, wasting a number one pick. He wasn't even the best safety available. Who the hell watched this guy and made that call?

Why keep avoiding the running back unit? Everyday there is "news and notes" but y'all always skip the running back group.
