[News] Will Hill, Safeties Stepping Up Without Matt Elam

37 posts in this topic

Losing the depth hurt but this will not ruin the Ravens season unless Will Hill were to go down with injury as well. But in that case I think the Ravens would feel comfortable putting Kendrick Lewis as strong safety and having a younger guy bring up the back end. But that is worst case scenario lets hope the rest of camps the Ravens are injury free and hope Elam can bounce back and produce in his 4th season. Sad to see him go when they were talking about how much he improved.

The only positive about Elam's injury is now Nick Perry has a shot. I liked this kid in college and was hoping he had a shot to make this team, now he does. Lets go Nick, show us you belong.

I agree. Matt had two years to shine. Now Ravens have to choice but to see if another player that's not their number one pick can play. Matt's "will" is being challenged.

Will Hill was going to start anyway. But, Elam made an awesome effort to get better this year and his depth will be missed. Lewis and Hill are your starters, with Levine and Traywick as backups. Perry will make the Practice Squad. However, when Brooks comes off the PUP list, someone has to go. I think it will be Traywick because Levine can also play Cornerback. But it's speculation, until they play we won't know who has the advantage.

It sucks that this injury had to happen to Elam, but I still like what I see in our safeties. Will Hill should improve this year with more experience with the playbook, and Lewis should be an upgrade over Darian Stewart. If we can stay healthy, our secondary will be much improved this season.

I wasn't expecting Elam to win a starting Safety spot this season, and my expectations were to have 2 starting Safeties ( W.Hill, and K.Lewis ) that play a majority of the snaps. The crazy rotation we had last year was out of necessity hoping to find chemistry amongst 2 safeties. Then as injuries occurred all over the secondary some of them were forced to play out of position.

I believe Levine played well enough out of position last year that I would trust him as a backup safety this year without concern.

Once Terrence Brooks returns from injury he will see snaps
