[News] Marc Trestman Says Passing Reputation Overblown

22 posts in this topic

The Bears threw a lot because they sucked and was always trailing. You need a balanced offense to keep opposing defenses guessing. I would like to see more screen passes and throwing on first downs. Ball control and eating the clock, especially in the forth quarter, is key.

Marc & The Ravens will do what works at the time. The score, team, etc. will dictate what they'll do. Bandit666 is right. If your teams sucks and you're trailing, you'll be throwing a lot.

1. Throw,,,throw,,,throw. Then run. 2. Let Tucker sing the national anthem. 3. Put the raven bird head logo on the center of the field.

I want to see Trestman do what gives us the best chance to score on each drive. I hope he doesn't run it just for the sake of running it. Joe and the offense are at their best when they come out aggressive(see the postseason). This offense is too good to play ball control all game and hope the defense holds them like we did when Cam Cameron was here.

Now Trestman has the keys to the whip let's see if bounces after a terrific season or stay and have it all! The first drive will result in a Touchdown to finish the drive the Ravens didn't finish against the pats! Tick tick tick it's almost upon us!

It took Kubiak the better part of the season to figure-out what worked and what didn't last year. His play calling in the playoffs was nothing short of brilliant. I know Trestman will want to work within his own style of play-calling, but I just hope he can pick up where Kubiak left off. On paper, this team has the potential to grind down team defenses and put up big numbers and shut down the opposing offense with a smothering defense. This fan is hoping the practical matches the theoretical.

The talent is here and the coaching will make whatever changes that are needed to take full advantage of it. I am really feeling good about this team this year. The early part of the season will be a test for sure, but this group can handle it and will be better for it later in the season. As long as Joe can stay upright and healthy we have the team to beat in the AFC North.

We need a well balanced attack, but we can not become predictable. We have to creatively mix it up without getting too cute (i.e. end-arounds that are read by the opposing defenses who tackle for a 10 yard loss and kill a drive). The offense also has to be well disciplined, false starts and illegal formation penalties need to be few and far between!

Just hearing that trestman's play calling varies based on talent around him gets me excited. So many before had the mind set of getting talent that fit there scheme which delayed the success of the team. With the talent on this team trestman can and should be able to be unpredictable, aggressive, and successful. Now let's hope it works like that and that he stays more than 1 year

A brutal first half of the season will test us for sure, gotta take it one game at a time and get thru it without too many loses. Agree with ya about the year to win the AFC and get some home playoff games for a change.

Well said (didn't read ur post before replying the first time) but really hoping for a non-predictable play calling year

Agreed. Hopefully he actually "builds a foundation" with our offense rather than just saying it and then leave all of a sudden lol.

The way offenses are set up in todays NFL those little bubble screens and halfback dumps are as safe as a running play and basically work and are blocked the same way. I totally agree the stats are taken out of context.

Another thing I hope is that they change some plays week 1 vs Broncos. We don't want Kubiak to have an idea of our play calls since he create this offense because that would give them a huge advantage over us just like what Houston did to us last year.

halfback swings is my go to audible when i see the defense is sending someone off the corner in Madden... the running back is just running free with 10+ yards of space.

If anything, this should help us because Pees and the defense has been practicing against Kubiak's offense for weeks and months.

@DomMcRaven True, never really thought about the opposing team. That's fair with us. They know some of are ideas we know theirs.

We are still admiring what Kubiak did. Trestman can only make it better

Agreed. Kubiak was the one who figured out what makes our offense perform best, and now Trestman has the blueprint, a similar offensive mindset, a history of good offensive coordinating, and a lot of new toys. I'm so excited for this season!
