18 posts in this topic

I don't have him in my personal top 5 but I'd love for him to prove me wrong and force himself into my top 5 and everyone else's top 5.To me he's not that far away from being there. He just needs to get those int's up.

How can he get interceptions if quarterbacks dont throw his way? I feel just as good about jimmy playing lockdown that his receivers dont have any seperation. Take the number one receiver out of the game will do wonders for the rest of our secondary.

Jimmy you are one heck of a corner, just please try your best not to get injured because we need you in the playoffs.

Stole this from another site, but here's what PFF had to say about Jimmy just before he was injured last year:

"Ok football fans, time to take notice of Jimmy Smith. A strong argument could be made for him being the best cornerback in football this season. He has been nothing short of dominant this season against great competition. The Bengals, Steelers, Panthers, Colts and Falcons all had no success while targeting him. He didn’t allow more than 28 yards against any of those teams. He hasn’t allowed a touchdown against anyone and quarterbacks have a rating of 51.5 while targeting him. He’s long, rangy and strong and can compete against whoever he lines up against. He has a similar style to Richard Sherman and he needs to be getting more praise than he is."

Good Post. Couldn't agree more.

JSmith: As leader of the Ravens' Dbs, focus on count-to-contact with the ball or receiver. The average receiver has about 3-5 seconds to cut and catch, this is where counting tells you when to contact the ball or receiver depending on the opponent's formation and distance to first-down. The Ravens defense will increase their number of interceptions from last year with timing the receiver by count-to-contact and pounding the receivers after catch. When the football is in the air all the Ravens should be yelling "Balls-Up". Expect the Ravens' Dbs to be tested often by NFL passers, but once the Dbs earn their bravado, the Ravens will dominate. A hungry defense is feared. Get the football, Keep the football!

He didn't get many ints, and he only played half the season, but as far as taking the other team's best receiver out of the game, when he was on the field, Jimmy was the best in the league last year. He spent a lot of time on Antonio Brown, AJ Green, Julio Jones, and everyone else's #1 that we faced, and none of them did anything against him. I doubt anyone can name a cb that shut down every #1 receiver he faced. The only time he gave up more than a few yds was in Tampa, but he was playing in a prevent defense to protect a huge lead.

On those "Pay of the day videos" Can you make the second reply of it in slow motion and not just 2 takes in normal speed? I think that would make more sense.

It refreshing having an indepenent source assigning the accolades.  We should keep his snap count down in pre season and expect his greatness in the first 4 tough games of the real season..

Injuries suck but at the end of the day, you can't be great if you are on the sideline. I'm hoping Jimmy can come back strong this year and earn the recognition of being a shutdown guy. We all know he has the potential.

PS: I want to get a new jersey this year and I'm looking for a younger but proven guy who will be with this team for a long time. Any suggestions?

Jernigan, Williams, or Mosley seem like good bets.

No doubt in my mind that if Jimmy not had got injured we would be holding the Lombardi once again. We were the best in the AFC for sure and Lynch can run on us and Wilson didn't have the weapons to bet us down the field. I thought it was going to be a perfect match in our favor. But I guess you can't account for cheaters.
