[News] Lardarius Webb Sits After Failing Conditioning Test

25 posts in this topic

You can be in good shape physically and not pass an anaerobic test. Remember when Jacoby Jones was in dancing with the stars? He was nearly out of breath by end of dancing his first song. Some people can play at a very high level for 10 seconds with breaks between plays, others will falter after 10 seconds etc. Webb simply have to work on his endurance instead of muscles is all, he'll be fine.

I cannot believe this! Webb is one of my fav players and I have continuously voucher for him. But this time I just can't do it. If your injured it sucks but I get it your injured. But when you are healthy and people are calling for your behind. You gotta be in the best shape of your career not you worst.

I hope this imbarases him enough to motivate him. I expect him to run until he drops of pukes! Webb needs the practice and all the young guys need him to lead by example.

I pray this is the last bad news on webb

I'm confident Webby will pass his conditioning test in the next day or so. No big deal, so it's time to move on to rosier things. Hopefully Perriman will be up and running in a couple of days for the padded practice as well. Otherwise, let's go Ravens!

This isn't Webb's first rodeo, he knows what the test consists of and to not be able to pass that test, when he should have been doing it daily for the last week shows a level of unconcern that worries me. Webb is supposed to be a leader but leaders don't come to camp and fail their conditioning test. Suggs is a perfect example. If I am a cornerback in the room full of cornerbacks, my respect for Webb just took a hit and when he tells me I should be doing something a particular way, I weigh that against him doing what he should have been doing in the off season that he didn't. I am very disappointed but he is a Raven and he will get it together.

Not what you want to hear. The guy knows he's on a bit of a hot seat, so you'd hope he'd come in ready to roll. Still not the end of the world.

I agree with you 100%.  I am in the computer biz, and if my company hired a new technical lead and he couldn't pass his Linux test, I wouldn't be so likely to take his advice at times when it counts.

Nevertheless, he will pass the test, he will play, and hopefully in two weeks we will have forgotten about this.

@FABEWASH31

You can be in great shape and fail the Ravens conditioning test. It's all about how you run it. If you go too hard on the first 3 you'll be dead on the last 3.

@AaronWilson_NFL hardest conditioning test I ever did.

I'll take the word over some guys who did it before.  So I'm not gonna sit here and bash Webb unless he fails it a few times, then we know there's a problem.

The problem I have with all this is, it was reported that EVERYONE passed the test yesterday and then today we find out Webb didn't.

Hearing that the guys retruning from injury (Wagner, Monroe, Zuttah) passed the conditioning test means more to me than Webb failing.

You'd think we would have learned our lesson(pitta)negotiating new contracts with often injured players(webb)...........wasting money on damaged goods is not a good look for us(throwing money in street)when there are so many talented uninjured players we could sign......sigh....we have to improve and the front office needs to use their brains instead of their hearts.....no hearts in football if you want to win! Who cares if you get them cheap if they can't perform!

Come on, Webb! With all those injuries last year in our secondary, and the emphasis Ozzie put on redoing it, the least you could have done was report in top shape. I mean, wow, you were one of the guys that Did fight an injury. We need you at the top of your game this year. Get busy, willya?

Come on guys, ease up on Webby, lol.  I am sure from an aerobic standpoint Webby is fine, but anaerobic is a little bit different. You have to keep in mind that Webby suffered a back injury last year and as such was probably limited in the type of conditioning he could participate in.  He will be fine.  Webby eats some carbs before that test, lol.

This guy knows the drill! That's not preparing like a professional! The "cushion",... the tackling!

His stock keeps slowly dropping with me!  :229031_rant:

I was actually thinking Webb was going to get cut before this year. Wouldn't have saved us much money but then again neither did jacoby jones. It also wouldn't have made a lot of sense unless we drafted a nfl ready cb in the first round. I appreciated him taking a pay cut- but he really needs to get it together. He's a solid cb when he plays to his potential, problem is he hasn't been doing that in quite some time. I know this is not a huge deal and he will eventually pass it , it's just that he is supposed to be one of the team leaders.

When I first read this it was a huge shock to me especially since I expected him to be in the best shape ever in an effort to prevent possible injuries this season, similar to how Monroe said you train hard for injury prevention and the added strength and speed comes as an added bonus.

But after reading F.Washington tweets about how hard it is running for the conditioning test, and him having to run around with a pregnant wife, it's possible he slack off for a week or two in preparation. Since it's not his first time performing the test he probably overestimated his own stamina and conditioning, it won't happen a second time I'm sure..

I'd rather read about a failed conditioning test than a pulled anything at this point lol

Needless to say I dont't know if I am more shocked or disappointed. After the departure of Jacoby Jones, I Knew Webb was going to aim for the Kick/Punt returner, But after seeing he can't pass the the condition test to practice, Should he get it? Don't get me wrong Webb has shown everyone sparks from time to time but with his health and lossing depth at corner if he got injuried. Let's hope he bounces back and this shocking news is a glimpse into webb's Season. Side not: it's ironic that 3 people failed the conditioning test. Jacoby, Nagta, & now Webb the ironic thing is Nagta and Jacoby are no longer Ravens.... food for thought.

Agreed, even Harbs said after he failed that Webb was in fantastic shape.  Him failing the conditioning test is no big deal, him failing his physical, HUGE DEAL.
