Why???

I guess we can trust Ozzie and the coaches on this. They sure have their reasons for this decision - even if we don't know what it is.

Tom Nelson's 40 yard dash time is 4.38

To put that in comparison:  Torrey Smith - 4.36

                                            Jacoby Jones - 4.50

                                            Steve Smith - 4.39

                                            Michael Campanaro - 4.46

My guess is he'll compete for the kick return position

Atleast it's good for morale. Not saying that's why they brought him in but thats something good that can come from it. Boost the other receivers confidence a bit since there is so much talk about ppl being on the bubble and how most of them are equal in talent and fighting their way up the depth chart it will be a relief to see another receiver that's under them for once.

Or, it backfires... Wayne outplays a guy like Aiken or Brown in camp, and the FO is in a position to seriously evaluate whether those guys are worthy of being on this team.

Not necessarily a bad thing for the franchise, since I'm all for just simply bringing in the best player, not necessarily the youngest or cheapest guy. But from a player morale standpoint, there's certainly risk. Its not like guys like Aiken and Brown have proven themselves to be Calvin Johnson-esque studs who are above having competition for their job.

I'm assuming you meant Nelson?

Either really. In either scenario, you've sort of got yourself a little problem...

The advocates for bringing in Wayne would say "well, there's really nothing to lose... he'll just push the younger guys". While that's partially true... what happens if Wayne simply plays better than Brown/Aiken? You know Wayne is basically a one year rental, and now you're probably realized that Aiken/Brown will never be more than a depth receiver at best.

In theory, Nelson is the same way. If he actually beat out a guy like Aiken/Brown for a job, its an indictment of just where Aiken/Brown are in their progress.

A lot of fans believe that we should just force-feed these guys reps and playing time in the preseason, which I'm mostly for, so then why bring in Wayne? Wayne would get reps too, otherwise there's no point in him being here.

I'm sure wayne would play better than most of those guys. He's a seasoned veteran and everyone knows that. The argument is for the future , we have to give our younger guys some playing time to get experience under the belt. And that's why they won't be bringing him in. But you already know that.

But with Nelson it's the opposite, our receivers our obviously ahead of him as far as talent, so it would give them a little morale boost and also give us another body for some of the backup qbs to throw to. And hey if he outperforms some of those guys then great , that's wouldn't hurt morale, that would just mean we found a diamond in the rough that could help our team. Basically a win win if you ask me.

I don't buy that bringing in a guy who clearly isn't as good as you is a morale boost. That's like saying that Joe Flacco beating out Matt Schaub in a QB competition is a morale boost... of course its not. You're just reaffirming something you already knew.

If they brought in Wayne, and Aiken/Brown outplayed Wayne (which at this stage in their careers they should absolutely be able to do and is very bothersome if they don't), then that, in theory, is a morale boost, because you outplayed somebody who at least in some point in their career was great.

Bringing in a guy you clearly know you are better than and beating him on the field shouldn't be a morale boost for anybody who has morale to begin with. If that's a morale boost, a very, very, very serious problem is coming.

Most likely, Nelson is here to try to make the team as a ST and he offers us more in that regards than Worthy did. He's unlikely to make the roster, obviously.

This is indeed a interesting move. The fact that they added a new WR isn't odd but one that's been a safety and that hasn't playe since 2011.He must a had a great workout. Hope it works out for everyone involved.

Nelson is the back up plan if Camp sustains another injury. This is my absolute lock tight theory. It may resemble Swiss cheese, but that's my theory :)

FLASH Every year I make a statement that the Ravens are going to the playoffs, every year I seem to be right. I am not going to predict that this year, I AM GOING OUT THERE. I predict Our birds in purple will sweep our afc north division. Then sweep our way to another SUPERBOWL. If we get little injuries or none this team is what we thought when first got Joe,This might be the best we ever seen our offense, next to the best for our running game, the best in our secondary and the best coaching John since being here. 2015 will be the year to remember, something else is going to happen too but I am scared to say but I WILL SAY THIS ON PAPER THIS IS THE BEST TEAM IN FOOTBALL.Go Ravens.

Wouldn't be surprised if Nelson see's a lot of time in the pre season. Think he could be a great special teams player.

I find this one a bit perplexing. Just can't seem to figure this one out. Is he, perhaps, a punt or kickoff returner? We seem to have our fair share of receivers, don't we? Is he a special teams ace that nobody has heard about? I'm sure Ozzie has a reason for doing this. Ozzie Always has a reason. Maybe he's just going to be a potential Mr. Versatility. A safety if we need one. A receiver if we need one. A returner if we need one. Is Campanaro hurt again, but they just don't want to tell us? Is Camp and Carter Both hurt and they just don't want to tell us? Maybe Ozzie just doesn't think we have enough guys in camp to battle for the wr spots on the team. I don't get this one but, of course, I ain't making the big bucks, Ozzie is. That's good, though, because he knows a heck of a lot more than I do. I just can't stop scratching my head with this signing. Just who is Tom Nelson???
