[News] 7 Storylines To Watch In Training Camp

34 posts in this topic

I'm more excited about the secondary's rebound more than anything. Even with a depleted secondary, we were a play away from the AFC Championship game. I'm excited about the possibility of this starting secondary; Webb, Smith, Arrington, Lewis, and Hill.

Every year everyone is always excited to see how our draft picks and new free agents will perform but the biggest story line will probably be how well our offense clicks under Trestman, because it looked really good for one year with Kubiak. I have to think that our secondary will have to be much better with our starters back, I mean we were poaching practice squad players to fill in the holes every other week with all our freakishly high number of injuries.

We might need to sign free safety depth if Brooks' injury sets him back in any form but Ozzie seems to be inclined in using whatever cap space he has left to extend Tucker, K.O, and/or Yanda. Assuming the Joe Flacco restructure gets done before next years' Free Agency, we can lock up all 3. This seems to be a make or break year for Dennis Pitta as well.

There is no camp battle between Will Hill and Matt Elam I wish they would stop pushing that, Will Hill is one of the best safeties in the league and without a doubt the best safety on the team, the guy can plan free safety and strong safety at an elite level, I want to see Elam do great things but no one is taking snaps away from Will Hill just stop it!

every year is a new year, and unless your a top player who has been consistent for years, then the other jobs will be won on the field as they should be......If Harbs hasn't declared Hill a starter then he is letting Elam fight for it.....

If Torrey fought for that 1 ball they may have been in the SB with that secondary. I want to see the WR's go at it. HARD!!

From Rotoworld.com (citing the Baltimore Sun as their source):

Ravens WR Kamar Aiken "consistently" practiced with the first-team offense at spring workouts, ahead of Breshad Perriman. The Ravens aren't handing a starting job to Perriman, who reportedly "needs to become more consistent" after showing a propensity for dropped passes in OTAs and minicamp. Perriman also struggled with drops at UCF. Unlike the Panthers last year with Kelvin Benjamin, the Ravens seem hesitant to throw Perriman into the fire. This is a camp battle to watch throughout August.

Somehow I don't remember Perriman being reported to drop so many balls at the OTA's and minicamp...

(Well, Rotoworld isn't the embodiment of trustworthy info either - though most of their news are usually valid.)

My focus will be on the tight ends.

Yeah, not accurate at all...  I heard just the opposite

As I recall, the only report of drops was during one minicamp session, but that he caught everything else.

My gut feeling is that so long as the team stays relatively healthy, everything else will fall nicely into place allowing the Ravens to field one of the most formidable rosters in franchise history. This is going to be a fun fun year! GO RAVENS!

I am glad you feel the same way I do, because we need the most productive receivers on the field. The wide receiver battle should be wide open and it is certainly going to be an interesting one to watch.

Expect to see a faster rush into the opponent's backfield this year enabling Raven Dbs to come up with some momentum changing interceptions. Use the Ravens-Steelers' playoff game film as a prime example of total-game excellence by the Ravens on offense and defense and special teams. Punting out of bounds at key points was superb last season along with outstanding field goal kicking. Kick and punt returns will no doubt improve for the Ravens significantly. Lastly, let's have some fun - Ravens are on prime-time frequently for a reason and will fill expectations by staying loose and playing their best on every down. Super Bowl Championships start in preseason and remain the pulse of highly competitive teams. The Ravens and their fans share this beat.

@jrubin80 Dude, that is really not fair at all to say. Torrey was nothing but a class act, and he was the most productive WR the Ravens ever drafted. The best WRs in franchise history, Qadry Ismail, Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason, were all free agent veterans. While I feel Mark Clayton was very talented, and a great Raven considering the offenses he played in, the fact remains that Torrey far and away was the best DRAFTED WR the Ravens have ever had. He did nothing at any point in his four years with us, to deserve any Ravens fan trash talking him or putting him down. The dude was legit, and came up big for us FAR far more than he ever let us down.

I agree and I stayed off that bandwagon.

Let us explore further prospectives into the realm of rotoworld this season.  They may be a negative media sponge or perhaps an industrial parts catelog.. After all, they do not possess the status of the well known sports media sources. There is no reason to get our perspiration level up for this outfit.

I'm thinking Elam better show up as a tackler for free or strong safety roles. I am not his fan.  I am hoping to see Brooks emerge but with KLewis and Hill those roles are squarely in their corners.  With Brooks on the pup list, we should have his return slated for the 7th game. In the least desirable situation Elam can be inserted on high percentage running plays like third and short  imo.

I heard Perriman had very few drops... Just remember the Ravens never give their draft picks first string snaps at first... Even Mosley last season started off behind Smith and Brown. Look how he turned out by the end of the season.

Rotoworld generally is a viable source of information, considering they basically don't post a lot of their own content, at least from a news perspective. They do their own analysis, but when they report news, its generally from another source.

So, for example, in this case, the source of the information is the Baltimore Sun, so if we were to doubt the validity of this report, then we should be questioning the Baltimore Sun, not Rotoworld.

Obviously, Rotoworld is primarily used by fantasy players who want quick news fast (very beneficial on gamedays), but I find them generally a good source of information, as they are able to cite information from various sources nationwide that people would otherwise likely have to research on their own. Sort of a one-stop shop if you will of information.

Kendrick Lewis was brought in because of his great run stopping ability and also his pretty good awareness in passing situations. He will be the free safety and he will do great at it. He had the most tackles on the Texans defense as a secondary which proves he was all over the field. Will Hill played phenominal as our strong safety last season and pending injury or him getting in trouble again he will most likely perform as well again. Elam has shown more confidence this preseason which has impressed coaches which will help keep fresh feet back there in the secondary but I still see him as a back up at this point as everyone should because he still hasn't shown he has starter  capabilities yet. Brooks will return this season but was already placed on PUP which means 6-8 weeks until he likely returns but Levine goes back to safety who showed a lot. Safety is one of the deepest positions in Baltimore. Baltimore's weakest link in my opinion is outside linebacker. Suggs showed up at a heavy weight which may change before the season but it is scary to see especially when both him and Dumervil are in their 30's. Upshaw is solid but hasn't shown all what he can do yet. But think of a scenario where Suggs underperforms this season due to weight and Dumervil getting hurt for multiple games... That leaves Za'Darius Smith as our only main pass rusher. The Ravens need to invest in a pass rusher in my opinion. I believe some decent ones will be cut in the preseason.

We have a stable of WR's and Joe pulling the trigger. They all should be on the field at some point. I can't wait to see us light up Denver and make Kubiak regret what he left.

I keep seeing that there's gonna be a battle for the SS position. Here and in the Sun paper, on 105.7, etc. Where do these people live, in a bubble? Do they not watch the Ravens. Will Hill is our starting SS. He was a beast last year. He got better as the year went on and at the end PFF had him graded as a top 10 Safety. Meanwhile Elam was horrible again and graded out as one of the worst Safeties in the game. In what world is that a battle? In what universe is that even a close competition? As far as FS goes, Lewis is more of a playmaker then Stewart, but he graded out near he bottom last year (not far from Elam). However, I think he will play better for us, a lot of FA do. Besides, there really wasn't a better option. But Hill will be our starting SS baring injury. Even then, he might be better then Elam. These Sports Writers are beyond ignorant for not knowing their own team.

so what do you think of the statement saying perriman showed a propensity to drop passes, when all reports on this site were quite the contrary?
