[News] Late For Work 7/27: Projecting Ravens 53-Man Roster, Starting Lineup

I hope and pray that Ray Rice gets the second chance he deserves. I look at others who have had domestic issues and they are still playing like Adrian Peterson.

Why people have so many negatives about MYTH420 roster. I think it's a great roster. I have the same indentical list as his and got negatives as well. The only thing MYTH420 has different is that Melvin makes the roster and Tray Walker on practice squad. Also Supernaw is with the Titans. If Pitta comes back and Terrance Brooks from the PUP list then we have to makes some room for them but other than that it looks like a great roster. I like it MYTH420.

QB- FLacco, Schaub

RB- Forsett, LT, Buck

FB- Juice

WR- SSS, Perriman, Marlon, Kamar, Camp, Waller

TE- Gilmore-Maxx-Boyle

T- Wagner-Monroe-Hurst

G- Yanda-KO-Urschel-Myers

C- Zuttah- Jensen

DL- Williams, Timmy- Davis- Canty- Urban-KLM-Guy-Tyson

OLB-Suggs-Dumerville- Upshaw-Zsmith

ILB-CJ, Daryl, ABrown, Zorr

CB - Jimmy-Webb-Arrington-Vaughn-Walker- Melvn-ASA

SS- Hill-Elam

FS- Lewis

ST- Tucker, Koch-Cox

PS Fitz- DCarter- NPerry- JButler- Dondre Welsley- Jacobs-ALdrick Robinson

(I think that Waller beats out Butler... butler has the ability just has not found consistency and Waller has a higher ceiling. I think that with Elam playing better and having the ability to play at both FS and SS we carry one less S (especially knowing that Brooks will be coming off of the PUP list in week 7). The biggest question mark for me is does DTyson progress enough to keep him... he showed a lot of progress last year,.,,, when Pitta and Brooks are ready to return I think we see a DL and or Jensen step down to clear the roster space! Jensen could be a PS player with Urschel showing the ability to play Center also but that depends on how fast Robert Myers develops! DOndre Welsley could be a wild card.... he has the ability to be that UFA guy this year!

Canty is a big if for making through the season, I can't see the Ravens releasing Kapron Lewis-Moore unless some better veteran gets released. This is Canty's last season, don't let a potential good player get away.

I'm not a big Jah Reid fan or anything, but it doesn't seem likely we would cut him after resigning him this offseason.

His cap hit for this year is $750k, I can see them letting him go.

Amen@MissRay27. Darren Waller 6'6 240 4.3 speed freak athlete better make this team. Ravens historically are successful with TWO DEEP Threats.(Torrey,Jacoby) If anything Campanaro is on the outside looking in with all his injuries piling up, especially if they like Butler too.

All reports from OTA's and mini-camp had Butler as the most consistent of ALL of the receivers.

Im a Big supporter of the Waller kid. So I will be very upset if he doesnt make this team because AT WORST he can be a Jacoby type secondary Deep speed threat the defense must respect, and with Bobby Ingrams continuous mentorship he can grow into a BMARSHALL/JEFFREY Twin Towers type WR combo with Perriman and Waller

Freak athlete doesn't really mean much. He has zero clue how to run a route, because he's basically never had to run one. His hands are suspect.

Everything that I'm hearing about Waller right now is PRECISELY what I heard years ago about a Tommy Streeter.

The most obvious indication, naturally, is that a 6 6 guy with blazing speed gets taken in the 6th round of an NFL draft, and it wasn't due to character concerns. It was due more to the fact that 32 NFL teams aren't really that sure if he's a good football player or not, which has always and will always trump size and speed.

I'd put it this way... if he makes the team, I wouldn't expect to see him active on gameday very often, if ever.

Unless something changes, I'll be shocked to see him do anything other than be an occassional ST player on gameday. By all indications, he's just not evolved enough as a WR to contribute right now.

Other takeaways.. I dont see The Ravens losing Tyson, or Lewis-Moore over a couple bum back up ILBrs. Ozzie always values D Line so either Art Brown or Zack Orr wont make the team,

BUT... backup ILBs are core ST players. Defensive lineman tend to be not as much (though sometimes they do). Carrying 7-8 DL on a line that only plays 3 at a time is sort of a waste if some of those guys can't contribute on ST.

In an ideal world, Orr never sniffs the field as an actual linebacker, but he made the team because of his ST value.

@rmcjacket, how is it teams like the Steelers and my other Favorite team The Packers can take 5th,6th round WRs and with average development and turn them into Stars. Yes because they have Favre/Rodgers and Rothlisberger and run high octane offensive schemes... But you know what else... They dont let a Waller type talent go waisted like the Ravens do.

Ravens dont need to practice squad this kid or release him, no they need Bobgy Ingram "The WR coach to develop him a little more" but you cant tell me with a straight face a 6'6 240 freak with 4.3 speed is not worth keeping. And his hands are not as bad Perrimans and everyone loves him

@rmcjacket, Special teams?? OK. A lot of players are ST. Art Brown who is likely making it because Ravens draftee, ST but Orr likely wont. Then look at safety position like Lavine, Trawick(if he makes it) so ST Players all over the field

The difference between Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson is The Videotape from the elevator. If some team gives Ray a tryout it will be all over the sports networks and the teams local news. Put that together with rays age and 2013 output and it is grim

Is the ONLY reason he wasn't a Raven last year or in the league now.  If that hotel employee doesn't sell that video to TMZ, Rice is still playing.

I think Fitz makes the team.. he has nice lateral movement.. and short area quickness.. looked good in limited playing time and in preseason... from what I heard and read... he's a sleeper candidate... catches the ball well and is very shifty in the open field...

I don't think they cut Waller. I think they will cut Jensen at center because they have Uerschel who can and did play that position when they needed someone to sub for Zuttah. Jensen hasn't shown anything other than injuries and I would take a shot at another WR before carrying a player who has spent more time on the injured report than on the active roster.

Dear Hensley, why the hell would you encourage coaches to release Darren Waller smh. That's the kind of WR we need in our starting lineup

Seriously doubt Hensley has any influence on who the Ravens cut.

Predicting the 53-man roster weeks before Ozzie's prime hunting season even begins is like a never sharpened pencil: totally pointless.

I absolutely agree that I really hope Ray Rice gets another chance in the NFL. However, Ray didn't make "one little mistake", he made a HUGE mistake. That being said, as a man, Ray could not have done any more to redeem himself. Ray did all he could to support efforts to help with DV awareness and made sure that his DV incident was an ISOLATED incident. If anyone deserves a second chance, it's Ray. There's nothing more that Ray could have done to show that he has made amends in every single way possible. His age, lack of production his last full season etc. may be the factors that unfortunately cause teams to decide the upside may not be worth the backlash. I feel so bad for Ray. As training camp proceeds, I just hope some team sees that Ray is worth a shot and picks him up.

I sure would like to see KLM stay and have some success. A good point was earlier about ST play, and I get that D Linemen rarely play ST. I rooted for Harewood as well.

Concerning Rice. Peterson and Hardy will play this year. I'd love to see Rice get a chance as well. Love those comeback stories!

Yeah, i was going to say the same thing.  I have no idea where steelcityraven got the idea that Butler hasn't been consistent. People forget that Butler was pretty consistent last season too.   I was even predicting that Butler was going to beat Aiken for the last roster spot.

With Butler looking better than he did last season I would be completely shocked if he didn't make the roster.

True.  But then again all of us who participate in this forum are clearly into pointless activities.  Why we like them, who knows?  Probably too much time on our hands.  But we do.  Perhaps our name should be members of the Passionately Pointless Purple Pride, or PPPP for short.
