[News] Late For Work 7/27: Projecting Ravens 53-Man Roster, Starting Lineup

93 posts in this topic

2 QB - Flacco, Schaub

3 RB - Forsette, Taliaferro, Allen

1 FB - Juszcyck

7 WR - Smith, Perriman, Aiken, Brown, Campanaro, Waller, Butler

3 TE - Gillmore, Williams, Boyle

8 OL - Monroe, Osemele, Zuttah, Yanda, Wagner, Urschel, Hurst, Myers

8 DL - Williams, Jernigan, Canty, Davis, Lewis-Moore, Urban, Tyson, Means

4 OLB - Suggs, Dumerville, Upshaw, Smith

4 ILB - Smith, Mosely, McClellan, Orr

6 CB - Smith, Webb, Arington, Jackson, Walker, Vaughn

2 SS - Hill, Elam

2 FS - Lewis, Levine

3 ST - Tucker, Koch, Cox

PUP - Pitta, Brooks

PS - Jacobs, Toussaint, Traywick, Jenson, Carter, Melvin, Supernaw, TBD

I have 3 battles. The first is for the 8th and final DL spot, between Guy and Means. I have Means right now because he's cheaper and he's looked impressive. The second battle is for the 6th and final CB spot, between Melvin and Vaughn. I have Vaughn because he has experience and his stats aren't bad, Melvin had one good game. The final battle is for the last spot on the roster, between Carter, Butler and Melvin. I don't think we take a CB because Levine and Elam could play if needed. Carter has return skills but Butler is the better WR. There could be one more between Orr and Brown for the final ILB spot, but I have Orr making it.

I don't know that the team will cut Waller as Hensley is predicting. He would have to absolutely fail in my opinion for that to happen. He has too much upside to try to sneak him on to the PS. They (and a lot of media) already talks about how impressive he is.

I almost feel like Brown, Aiken and Butler are the same "type" of WR. I'd see Butler getting the short end of that stick before Waller. Waller's size/speed is what gives him an edge.

I hope Rice does get a second chance. Rice is a versatile running back that is able block, catch, run and demonstrates unselfishness while on the field. With the season just over a month away from starting I bet Rice's contract price will be a bargain.

Still has Arthur Brown on roster? I really would like to see Darren Waller stick around.I believe he would be worth it.

I know I may be letting some homer made purple kool aid overflow, but I'm loving the prospect of the Ravens receiving corp this year. I can't say I've felt the group has had this much potential.

Sorry, but Waller will find his way on IR before he gets cut..6'6 4.40 speed....

1. He actually has to at least have some sort of vague injury in order to be put on IR. The NFLPA will have a field day with teams that put players on IR who aren't hurt, and the NFL doesn't like it either.

2. To me, Waller isn't that much different than Tommy Streeter. Great size, great speed, incredibly raw because he's played his entire college career in an offense that requires him to do practically nothing as a WR. It would probably take at least 2-3 years to get him into a position where he could even compete for snaps, and NFL teams generally just don't have that kind of time.

If he makes the 53, it will almost certainly be as a ST contributor, which would be great for him. Realistically... he gets waived and possibly returns to the PS if he isn't claimed.

First: The Ravens are NOT cutting DeAngelo Tyson and Kapron Lewis Moore in the same training camp.

Second; Darren Waller will go down on IR before the Ravens let a draft pick with so much potential go on someone else' practice squad and then possibly flourish in a year or two.

Now to Ray Rice. It chaps my behind that this guy is still seen as a pariah in NFL circles. Do I need to say, "I don't condone what he did..."; no sane person does, however it is not as heinous as the enduring backlash makes it seem. They got married, they've moved on, and there has been no incident with them since-- zilch. He has been at the forefront of this thing from day one and continues to champion the cause against domestic violence. It just tells me one thing; we are a bunch of hypocrites-- yours truly included, and I'm ashamed of it.

Props to "A CALL FOR MEN". Ray Rice Is not the monster as bashed in the media ever since the DV incident. It is good to know that there is a DV group out there able to distinguish between a habitual abuser and a basically good man who royally screwed up, has redeemed himself and deserves a second chance. They certainly have my respect to show their support for Ray publically. Best wishes to Ray.

1. You are correct with the hypocrite claim... we are all very much guilty of that.

2. Its a simple risk/reward analysis at this point, and I doubt even a reasonable person would conclude that the benefit of adding Ray Rice to your football team outweighs the risks/costs at this point.

If he were a 23 year old RB with fresh legs and a previous track record of dominating performance, he'd be employed and in camp already (see Greg Hardy). But he doesn't have that.

Its the same reason why if Bernard Pierce gets a DUI he gets released, and if Joe Flacco gets a DUI he more than likely gets a stern warning from the Ravens. Risk/reward.

i would have no problem if we signed RR back....He has redeemed himself, more than a lot of other players who have been charged for the same crime....

757RavensFan, Brooks will start training camp on the PUP but can come off before the season in which he would be one of 53. Pitta is assumed to start on PUP to start season.

Don't forget that "release" doesn't mean we won't see them again. For those that qualify (who haven't started to many games), we could potentially see them on the practice squad if they pass waivers.

Means is a LB and Supernaw is no longer on the team.   I think he's on the Titans.

Let's hope Perriman lives up to his 1st round hype and Aiken can work on the wing because Steve Smith is just so savvy in the slot plus we need to regulate his workload at 36. I expect a strong season from our offense given the continuity but the only question mark is how our TE's will respond.

Great news on Wagner's recovery.  With Monroe "supposedly" 100% and Wagner's full recovery, I think the OLine will be very solid.

I second that notion but only if we have a football need for his services, which unfortunately we don't.

100% correct. I can't think of a single way that RR makes the 2015 Ravens a better football team on the field.

Additionally, it means that he'd be taking a spot from either Taliaferro or Buck Allen, since there's practically no chance we would carry 4 RBs and a FB on the gameday roster.

No thanks.

philosphical conversations about how OLBs in 3-4 schemes are essentially linemen aside, Means is actually a Defensive End, that's his natural position. My guess is that they're trying him out at OLB to see if they can find a role for him on the team elsewhere since the DL is so crowded.

or stashed on IR, i believe that's where Cam Worthy is actually headed.

but it is a good point that this list doesnt seem to aim to approximate the exact fate of any player as far as their future with the team goes. this is jsut a black-and-white, you're on the 53-man roster or not kind of list.

I'm not a big Jah Reid fan or anything, but it doesn't seem likely we would cut him after resigning him this offseason.

I only have 3 disagreements with that projects. First, I like Waller over Butler. 6'6" with speed and can catch. I would need to see both in Preseason but Waller seems to have too much upside to think he'll pass waivers. I like Casey Walker over Lawrence Guy on the DL. B. Williams is the only 330 lb guy and Jernigan and others appear to be more penetrators than eating up blocks. I can't see keeping 5 ILBs. A. Brown or McClellan may be cut since Orr was running with 1st in OTAs.

I don't think you can put Streeter and Waller in the same category. I can't remember ever hearing Streeter and catch radius/good hands in the same sentence.

Many "pundits" say Waller has hands and a good catch radius.
