[News] Michael Campanaro Confident Entering Training Camp

37 posts in this topic

Campanaro has an uphill battle to secure a roster spot this year given his battle with nagging injuries and his inability to stay on the field. No matter how talented one is, he first needs to suit up to showcase his talent. The same holds true for Art Brown, not because he's injury prone, but hasn't shown enough versatility to be on the field.

Many rookies battle thru injuries then get it going and that is what Camp is about to do.

People talk like Camp was the only rookie to miss a few games last year due to injury.. Urban-IR Talafero-IR Brooks-IR.

Camp came back and had 4 tough catches against the Pats.

Just like every other player on the field he needs to stay healthy bla bla bla but as everyone that has played the game knows, injuries are a part of it and sometimes happen. His talent is special and thankfully the coaches know it!

I think Camp's biggest challenge is to be able to avoid another injury. There's no denying that the competition level will be stiffer this year, but that just makes that first point even more important. With the opening at PR, and the amount and type of ability he showed he has last season, I think that if he can stay healthy there is definitely a spot for him. He has a different skill set that none of the other receivers have, with the possible exception of Deandre Carter. But Carter is a rookie, with no track record, and if Camp stays healthy, I believe he fights that challenge off for his spot. An injury free Campanaro would bring a Lot to the table. His excellent hands, route running, quickness, and ability to gain separation are all there. There really Is only one question for him. Can he stay on the field? If he can, I think we keep him. If he has even One more injury, I doubt it.

One thing kind of puzzles me. There are just So many people on here that are ready to just hand Camp's spot, assuming he still has one for the moment, to Deandre Carter. Carter was the 50th rated receiver in the draft last year and, in fact, did Not get drafted, did he? Isn't he an UFA? That doesn't really matter, but what does is that he is a rookie who has shown us Nothing so far. How do we know that he won't have the injuries like Camp, as so many are saying. How do we Already know that his talent level is as high as Camp's? How do we know that his ceiling is as high as Camp's? Actually, we don't know Any of those things yet. Carter is where Camp was Last year. He has much more to prove than Camp. Camp just has to prove that he can stop getting these injuries and stay on the field. I'm just not ready to anoint Carter yet. I think it's just way too early. Let's see what he does in training camp and the preseason games first, shall we?

The thigh injury could have been either a natural part of a progression (abrupt muscular imbalance adjustment) or indication of overall weakness. We shall see.

I agree for the most part. Most ppl are just going off the few positive articles about carter and the statement from SSS about him being his favorite and a "young Randall Cobb". The fact that we are hearing this stuff at the same time that camp gets injured for the 3rd or 4th time just makes ppl wanna write camp off. I admit I did the same thing but recently had a change of heart- I've got faith camp will make the roster and provail. He's got in game and playoff experience, and id rather go with the sure thing as long as he can stay healthy. And who knows, carter could get injured 2 games into the season, it happens. Were just gonna have to leave it up to the coaching staff. ( like we have a choice right) Edited by January J
