2015 Training Camp Updates

How convenient...a veteran out for training camp then suddenly is ready to go it seems for the regular season. Lol, I'm slightly skeptical here that he just wanted to get out of training camp.

I would imagine we were fine with it as well considering his injury history, Webb has been around long enough where he should be fine

yeah, I'm kind of OK with that, too.

Seems like Haloti does that every year (still doing it in Detroit). and I seem to remember Ed Reed doing it, too, though I could be wrong.

Hopefully Webb can return and become a serviceable #2 corner for us this year.  Thankfully early reporting on Jernigan is he did not suffer any serious damage to his knee, so that is good news.  Guy and Tyson look like they should be alright too.  Chris Greenwood's injury looked the most serious out of everyone, but he was probably going to be part of the first roster cuts tomorrow anyways.

I am kind of hoping Ozzie attempts to sign Tim Jennings who was just cut by the Bears, does anyone else feel this way?

If Camp and Webb were really being held out as more of a precaution then that's a big relief.  It's smart.  Somebody in the office mentioned that AP hasn't played a preseason game in years.  I think for Webb at least, that would be a wise move.  Camp is only going into his 2nd year, so not sure there, but he really needs to be 100% (or as close to it as possible) to be effective.

I'm not buying that w/ Webb.  We're not talking about Revis or Sherman.  Webb at this point of his career, is an above avg CB at best.  If he's healthy, he needs the reps.  Especially since starters don't play the 4th pre-season game.  If you're trying to tell me he'll be game speed ready on opening day after a few series of play in the 1st pre-season game, I ain't buying it.

The sad part is that, by tomorrow, we'll be 15 players lighter

We could just move all our injured players to IR, and then it'll be like the cuts never happened...

LOL we'd have lots of back-up on the sidelines in case of another scrum

I am patiently awaiting to hear that Perriman is taking some snaps...

They did say he was catching passes from Coach Engram during the warm-ups of Sat's game.

He might not physically be the talent, but I think he's probably close, at least mentally. Don't forget, before Webb was injured, he was at least a top 10 talent at CB. The two ACL injuries haven't done him any good. His break on the ball, prior to the injury in 12, was to me, up there with the best.

He's 4 years removed from his great season in 2011.  That Webb is long gone. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt that we'll ever see a 2011 version of him again.

Unfortunately, I know. My only point was, he's still a student of the game, regardless of where his body is.

A completely healthy Webb alone turns the defense from above average to one of the best in the league

Having Webb Jimmy Arrington hill and Lewis healthy in the secondary would be the best overall secondary we've had in a long long time

But Lewis is only average remember? that means he cannot possibly be good (sarcasm).

I'm in agreement. Makes me interested in what we do with Brooks. More time as a slot CB? third safety?

Yea hoping Brooks doesn't bounce around like Elam did but Brooks is definitely more capable of doing so if need be with his past experience

Brooks looked like he was shot out of a cannon on that blitz when him and Upshaw leveled Cousins.

Yeah, maybe it's for the best. I don't know. The biggest problem with our secondary since Ed Reed left has been communication and that hasn't changed. I think Webb should be back there to help the young guys. He's supposedly a leader here. Then again, I hate to say this but maybe Webb is part of the problem with our secondary communication. I don't know honestly.

I'd use Brooks as a dime CB and have him play a mix of safety and CB. I also think Will Hill should go back to FS and put Lewis at SS. I understand it's mostly semantics in today's NFL but I think it might be for the best.

Me too. I just think he's that "rangy" FS were looking for, especially in comparison to Lewis. I guess we'll see though.

Webb, Campanaro, Monroe and Osemele all returned to practice today.  Great news for their availability for week 1 in Denver.  Melvin sat out as well as Jernigan.  Did anyone see on Saturday if Melvin got injured? Maybe it is rest since he had a hamstring issue last week.

Great news on those 4.  Of course, Perriman is still out and I wonder why they're so hush-hush about Maxx's injury.  He's wearing a non-contact jersey at today's practice.  Personally, I think Webb and Camp should play a quarter vs the Falcons.  They need to get some game speed reps under their belt before facing Peyton.

Agree with everything you said. Perriman's in the middle of his Derrick Rose Inpression right now.

The bright side about Williams is that he atleast still out there getting reps and creating chemistry with Flacco.  Its not smart to assume with injuries, but if he is out there (albeit with a red non-contact jersey) then he should be fine and they are taking a cautious approach with him.  I agree that Webb and Campanaro need the reps, I would be more inclined to put Webb out there Thursday then Campanaro though.  Campanaro played well this training camp/preseason when he was healthy, Webb has missed all the preseason so he needs it more.

My guess with Williams is he has a bad bruise in his ribs area. He took that big hit against Philly and came out of the game. It's probably painful, but nothing serious. Avoiding contact should allow it to heal.

That was my guess as well.

Good observation. I am hoping that is all it is and it makes sense why they want him to avoid contact.

Didn't practice; Baldwin, Greenwood, Guy, Jensen, Jernigan, Melvin, Welsey, Talieferro, Means, and Perriman.

I was excited for Means but it looks like he will be an IR move tomorrow at this rate.  Jensen had a vicious looking head injury trying to make a block, he may be out a few weeks.  Did anyone see if Guy or Tyson's injuries were serious?
