2015 Training Camp Updates

I think you're operating under a misconception. Gilmore is our #1 TE both blocking and receiving in 2015. I see Maxx coming on and making some plays as well but, in my view, it's a mistake to classify Gilmore as a pure blocker. He's a great blocker and he will be called on to do so early and often, but we didn't spend a 3rd round pick on a 6' 6" 275 lb behemoth just to block. I could see Gilmore having a slightly higher ceiling than Heath Miller.

Also, considering Maxx's body is nowhere near strong enough to consistently take on NFL LBs and DEs, it would be a huge strategic liability to make him the #1 this year. Would be way too obvious what we were doing when he was in the game and we'd be hamstrung in our base sets because wouldn't be as effective running the ball.

Honestly I think you are stretching hard on comparing him to Heath but I to can hope that he reaches that point but I just cant see it.  As the main receiving option at tight end I do not see him having better numbers then even Owen Daniels had last year.  He just is not a mismatch in the way that Pitta is or in the way that Williams can be once he gets a real NFL body,

I would also not even consider that a waste of a 3rd round pick if he merely turns out to be one of the best blocking tight ends in the league who can also occasionally catch passes thrown his way and is a secondary threat in the redzone.

I feel like Gillmore is severely underrated around here. He already is one of the best blocking TEs in the league but he hasn't earned a spot in the rookie team of 2014 just for his blocking. He is good pass catcher and route runner, too - he just hasn't been asked to do a lot of it last season but when he was, he did a great job.

I hope he gets a lot of looks this year, he has quickly become one of my favorite players on the Ravens roster.

I have a feeling you'll hear about it again Thurs and/or Fri.

It seems to happen to a lot of the rookies every year.  I have more concerns for the veterans that have done it before.  At least the rookies kind of go in blindly, and then realize just how difficult it is.

I think all eyes will be on Suggs. It'll also be a nice test for Art Brown to see how he continues to carry that grown man weight he added.

Considering that Suggs knows what it takes to pass the conditioning test and I don't think he's ever failed it, I'm not concerned about him failing.

Gilmore is going to be a stud. I just have a strong feeling about him. Hes doing all the right things and hes got good hands. How is he not a mismatch at 6'6" 275 pounds? He can box out anybody on defense. I can definately see him surpassing Owen Daniels numbers from last season. Joe loves his TE's. Gilmore is definately a sleeper. Edited by edreed2o

Yea it was reported on this site I believe that he had a solid camp. He didn't make as many flashy plays as Gillmore but that he caught everything thrown his way many for first downs.

I think it has mostly to due with expectation vs what was shown. Maxx was expected to make catches so simply doing that doesn't stand out as much as Gillmore or Boyle who were mainly known as blockers but were making big catches.

So that's what got focused on in reports but Maxx performed to expectation. Definitely room to imporve but he was solid and did what he could with the targets he got

This! Im getting tired of people riding the hype train on Boyle. The only reason it sounds like he has an awesome camp or maybe better than Maxx has everything to do with expectations. The reason Boyle is getting so much praise is because hes a later round pick and many wetent expecting him to do much. People were more surprised even though Boyle only caught a few balls, hes slower then Maxx, horrid route runner with decent hands. A 7th rounder who catches a fee passes will always get much better reports than a 2nd rounder just doing whats asked of him.

Here's a video of Tom Nelson working out at WR.  He seems to actually run some halfway decent routes considering he's just now making the switch.

So whats wrong with rallying behind a Raven?

Agreed.  What's so wrong w/ supporting one of OUR guys who's probably exceeded the expectation set for him going into OTA's and mini-camp?  Honestly, if he turns out to be just as good as Maxx Williams shouldn't that be something that we should ALL be excited about.  Any guy that does good in camp only benefits the TEAM in the long run.

He doesn't look bad at all...He must had been quite impressive if The Ravens signed him over other receivers that's out there in free agency. What really stands out to me about Nelson is he has kick/punt return experience and to my understanding his 40 time was 4.35 but not sure how fast he is now... He never got a chance to return kicks/punts in The NFL but for Illinois State University he lead their team in kick returns.

Anyone know why training camp doesn't start on the same date for all 32 teams?

Different coaches, different styles.

The 2 teams that play in the Hall of Fame game get to start camp a week earlier than everyone else because the will be playing in a game before the other 30 teams.

Looked up Tom Nelson. He's 28 years old knocking on 29; that already takes away a lot from his 4.38 40 time. If he's am worth it I hope he makes the team. Having two fast WR's is good And he use to be really good at returning kicks in college.

Agreed. IMO, Lewis was brought in to start at FS allowing Hill to move to SS.

thats not just your opinion, that IS the reason we went and got a traditional free safety. Will hill is one of the best SSs in the league, his play declines a bit by having cover deep zones.

Cam Worthy update:

Cam Worthy, waived injured by Ravens, got second opinion from Dr. James Andrews last week may need foot surgery has had stress fractures

Also word on Sizzle from Mike Preston:

Word has it that OLB Terrell Suggs has slimmed down considerably since last mini-camp.

I like hearing about a slimmed down Terrell.  He's one of those guys that seems to morph body mass each offseason, you never know which Suggs you'll get at TC.

And man, did he look pretty sloppy at OTAs.  Good to hear he's back to Sizzle shape.

That would make sense if the remaining other 30 teams started camp on the same day, but they don't.

What happened to him looking slim a few hours ago? At least he passed the conditioning test.

In today's presser, Suggs said he still had a few more pounds to shed.

Seems like we can just expect that Carl Davis won't be doing anything this year. Seems like after he was drafted he just vanished.
