[News] Late For Work 7/21: Despite Reports, Ravens Not Expected To Pursue WR Reggie Wayne

30 posts in this topic

There is no way we would even go for him, that would be like having anquan and dee mase and TJ hoose-your-mama again...a bunch of possession receivers who cant get separation. and no one ever picks us to win the division. We are always the wild card team, which history says is mostly true, but what possibly could the other teams have over us as a complete team? I believe we are the most talented team in the divison on both sides of the ball and the best kicker in the league.

We are the most complete team in the division, yes. We've got the best kicker, and the best defense. However, (as much as it pains me to say it), Pitsburgh currently has the best offense and best kickoff returner in the division.

I do not worry about wide receiver or tight end. Many may be concerned with the youth in those positions but I have a ton of confidence in our young guys. Every team has to be young somewhere due to the salary cap. No team can afford to fill its ranks with quality veterans at every position. We have our vets in the O-Line, at Linebacker, at QB, at running back and in our secondary where we need it most. With Flacco developing and maturing, I believe he is at the point in his career where his confidence and skill levels will allow him to bring along our young receivers. My guess is Flacco will be there to throw with the young guys starting tomorrow and will hang out at training camp until the last person leaves. That has always been the way Flacco operates and he is becoming more mature and more of a leader every year. I have my money on Flacco being a 4500 yard passer in the Trestman system, making the pro-bowl, and finally getting the respect he has deserved since 2010.

Wouldn't mind having an additional veteran at WR. SSS is 36 and an injury to him could seriously impact our offensive production. Perriman is a rookie... and it may take him some time to get fully up to speed. (also an injury there would really hurt us). Marlon and Kamar (even Camp) show a great deal of potential but nothing proven (yet)! Waller is more of a project and while we hope he becomes a big red zone threat... an injury to any of our top two guys would be very concerning. IDK if Reggie Wayne is the answer or not (at 37 and banged up) but it would be nice to have a little insurance there (IDK who is on the market... Ace Sanders, Santonio Holmes and Wes Welker don't excite me at this stage of their careers and are probably not as solid as what we have)... So no need to jump but it the right vet becomes available... would be nice insurance policy!

You can't fill your entire depth chart with proven players at every starting position. That's just how it goes. Yea, an injury to Steve Smith would leave unproven players playing every snap at receiver. But every team in the history/future of the league has had/will have that situation at some position(s). You get 53 guys, not 100. For 22 positions. I'd say right now on paper (and we're a rare team who is almost always better on the field than on paper ) we are the most complete team in the NFL

People say that we need Reggie incase Steve gets injured but where does that leave Reggie if Steve doesnt get injured? A backup? If he iant a backup then he'll be taking valuable reps from our young guys. We dont need Reggie period. I have faith in marlon Brown/ kamar Aiken and Perriman even of Steve Smith gets injured.

I'm happy Pitta got his money before the recurrence of that hip injury otherwise I doubt that he would be so humorous about the injury. I'm also glad the Ravens have moved ahead like Pitta won't be back otherwise they might be secretly ticked off that he is presumably finding so much levity in this injury situation. So everybody wins; I love winners!!!

We have too much talent at the wide receiver and tight end position already. Joe will will help give the younger guys on the job training with SSS. Kamar is ready to start alongside SSS and Breshad's god given agility, speed and size with Joe's arm talent will make him a playmaker. No need for Reggie Wayne on this team.

Reggie is done, a decent option for maybe 20 plays a game but after that he is a shell of himself by the time playoff rolls around. With the guys we picked up in the draft and our returning players, its gonna be a monster competition that may lead to a 6 or even 7 wr group so yeah, Reggie would take up uneeded space. Now if we were only asking this question 9 years ago.....

The only reason why Anquan Dee Mase, and TJ Hoose your mama had trouble getting separation wasn't only because they were possession receivers but it was mainly because Cam Cameron ( The Ravens previous offensive coordinator) kept asking  them to run deep routes. The Ravens have a different offensive coordinator now and they run a offense that doesn't particular rely heavily on speed like Cam Cameron offense did.

Who in the world pays $44,OOO for a football, even if it was under-deflated during a game?

Perhaps someone with an overinflated wallet combined with an overinflated ego? The other possibility could be someone with the overinflated wallet combined with underinflated common sense?

They say we won't, but we will, we get disrespected, but we don't care, they say we can't but we do, they say they're right but their wrong i would say the the ravens and the NFL world are rivals, but how can a rivalry be so one sided? #RavensDomination.

bringing in a Reggie does not guarantee that he make the team... We don't need to have the roster down to 53 by the start of camp! We bring him in and evaluate wether or not some of these new guys are ready to surpass what Reggie (or others could bring to the table). If they are great... you let Reggie go before season starts and if not... we know that these unproven players are not ready to take that next step! When you can get a veteran with the ability of a Reggie Wayne for dirt cheap... it is worth considering- If for nothing else but to help bring some young guys along! Finally as far as taking reps from the young guys.... I don't believe that is true. We know what SSS brings to the table and with his age we want to limit his reps in camp anyways. We are looking at 1. BPerriman 2. Kamar 3. Marlon 4. Camp 5. Butler 6. Waller legit WR's I know there are a few others but last year (DeAndre Carter, Aldrick Robinson, and Cam WOrthy) That is 13 WR's in camp that is about average around the league! Lets be honest... I think that Kamar and Marlon have the potential to take the next step... Camp will make his mark on ST and Waller / Carter / Worthy and Robinson... all are pretty unproven... I am not saying that cant do the job but I want them to earn it! Beating out a veteran like Reggie Wayne will legitimize anything that Marlon, Kamar or the others accomplish! This will go a long way to building confidence in them (From JOE)and the rest of the team. If they cannot beat out a 37 year old hobbled WR then I would like to know during camp... not in season when we need to be able to count on them!

I think that the WR's shake out as such. 1. SSS 2. BPerriman 3. Marlon 4. Kamar 5. Camp 6. Dandre Carter (I think Camp makes the teams for his ST contributions). I think Carter's athleticism and play making ability moves him into that final WR spot. I think Waller is placed on the PS and we look to develop him for next season or if there is an injury. (Butler, Worthy, and Robinson end up gone) I do think there is a chance we bring in a veteran (not named reggie wayne) if we don't like the ST situation or if we don't like the way Marlon/Kamar/ etc perform... but that will be a camp time addition! Probably after the 1st round of cuts! It will be a heated battle at WR again this year but I think the stakes are a little higher as many of them are not rookies anymore!

Beating out a wildly over the hill guy like Reggie Wayne doesn't legitimize anything for anybody. If we're only bringing the guy in so that hopefully he won't make the team and he'll somehow make the young guys look better, why not bring in Terrell Owens or Randy Moss?

Steve Bisciotti said the Ravens would not have to travel in the playoffs as often as in the past. I think Ozzie has done all he can to make that a reality. Ravens split with Pittsburgh but win the division.

We've embarked on the journey to get young at the WR position. I see no reason why we should abandon that now. SSS can lead the way on the veteran leadership standpoint. It is time for the young ones to prove their worth.

44 grand for a deflated football? Jeez, another couple more lbs would have fetched for a 100 grand. I bet the buyer is hoping #12 will sign it someday to flip it for a huge profit. Only in America. Git'er done!

Camp I don't know if he will make it due to injury. I think Butler will make the team. Waller and Carter I think could be red shirted like Butler was last year. Butler I think may be the Ravens sleeper this year, but maybe not by the time camp ends. Someone who catches everything in sight will have a place on the team. If Camp is like Welker then he is concussion prone. It will be a all about who are the best 53.

On a side but, I really wish the NFL would expand to 60 man rosters and dress everyone for the game.
