[News] Report: Ravens Expected To Place Dennis Pitta On PUP

36 posts in this topic

We don't want Pitta to return until he is 100% ready to go. If he returns too soon and reinjures himself, all the effort is lost.

I believe he is actually healed because just think, he has already doubled his recovery time from the last dislocated hip. So i just believe they are being extra careful and cautious with him. We have 3 capable TEs that can hold down the fort for the 1st 6 weeks.

“A couple of things are going to have to happen for him to play ultimately," Harbaugh said "No. 1, he has to be cleared by the doctors. And, No. 2, he has to decide if he wants to play because obviously there will be some risk involved

Unless I'm missing something, isn't this obvious at this point that he wants to play?

Regardless of whether or not Pitta starts the season on the PUP list or on the roster, between Maxx Williams and Crocket Gilmore we have two of the coolest names for TE's in the league. Maaaaaaaaaxxxxxxxxxx!!!!

Its a sad notion when we had choice between a 26 yr old and a 28 yr old tight end we took the latter now two years later while ed dickson has found success in carolina after his thigh injury pitta on the other hand has been injured not once but twice on the same hip now at the age of 30 this man is working hard but his body isn't right and he knows that so yes pup is the most rational decision because he may not be the same player anymore and the ravens know that so they are giving more time but if he cant then that decision to cut ed will really be one of ozzie's greatest sacrifices

If they didn't do this then it would have been tough to hold a roster spot for all the TE's they wanted to keep on the active roster. This way you get to see what the other guys can do with real playing time and bring Pitta back IF he can go. This was an expected move.

If he decides to play, I pray that his hip holds up. Another injury could cripple him for life and that would be horrible.

Not worth it Mr. Pitta. What could have been must haunt but just not worth it. He should move on and know that he was part of an elite community and of the 7 Billion people on this planet he was one of the few who deserved to "ride" with them. He'll always have the memories.

You must have a low criteria for "success".   Dickson w/ the Panthers last year had a total of 10 catches for 115 yards and 1 TD.  In the 3 games that Pitta played last year, he had 16 catches for 125 yards.  So in actuality, Pitta in 3 games was more successful than Dickson in 15 games last seaosn.

DP, your health is more important than making this team better. I pray that you recover soon and enjoy the game you love.

its been a pleasure pitta watching you for the short time that it was but this team is in great hands with gilmore and williams. they both have huge upsides. nick boyle could play a role as well

I think it's not so much a question of whether he would like to play - but if he wants to play bad enough to risk totally ruining his hip fire the rest of his life.

This would be a smart move. Pitta is under contract so there's no need to rush him out on the field, especially when we have some quality backups behind him to take the reps until he's ready and after 6 games off, he'll be able to come in with fresh legs for our playoff run. If he isn't able to come back from this, we'll just stick with the guys that got us to that point.

I personally think he should give what's left of his hips, to his family.

I love you Dennis but I'd rather know you're doing well 20 years from now than have you give it your all for us now and be laid up and have your kids pushing you in a wheelchair. It's just not worth it and very few get to go out like Ray Lewis did anyway.

I wish Pitta all the best, no matter what his decision is but it sure will be hard watching him play.

Another point,

The Ravens organization may feel the same way I do and could never tell an athlete that it was time to hang up the cleats but maybe if he isn't starting the season, and he sees his replacements in there doing well, he'll get the idea that maybe his health is worth more than being there for his teammates. I guy like Dennis and probably every player we pick, is chomping at the bit to get out there and start the season. Having Dennis start the season as the starter, would put undue pressure on his ultimate decision. The PUP give him time and takes the pressure off.

pitta has no incentive to make a decision to play or not this year because his contract is pretty much guaranteed. the team has said so already. So if his replacements ball out then he would be more inclined to sit out the rest of the year and comeback extremely healthy next year and make our offense deep and talented all across the board.

If he sits out the whole season, I doubt he tries to come back next year. He's not getting any younger (isn't he 30 this year?). Any more injuries would really put him back too.

Please choose wisely Dennis. I know it will hurt to say goodbye but I am sure something else will come your way. It would be nice to have you in the organization in some capacity. Good luck with whatever you decide. Ravens fans are behind you 100%.

I still think Pitta will give it one more shot. Now rumors coming out from a couple places saying Pitta feels he owes it to himself, the team and organization for getting a great deal. So I think he will be back at worst second half of the year same with Terrance Brooks, weeks 6-8.

I never thought I'd say "GREAT" to news of a popular player going PUP,... but I'm afraid Dennis is not ready to take a NFL season's wear and tear!

Pitta is most likely done in the NFL. A good, solid player BUT those are serious injuries that can and will effect him for life!

Not surprising to me! I always said that I thought that Pitta may be done and unable to return after those 2 hip injuries.

Best move for everyone.

Pitta can ease into a heavier workload.

Doctors can monitor him a little longer.

Pitta & family will have no pressure time to make the right choice for them.

Don't forget about Nick Boyle!

What's the rule again? We have to take him off by Week 10 or put him on IR?
