It was weird that after 13 straight years as the offensive line coach the Eagles made him their defensive coordinator. That just does not seem very logical.

I think the Eagles know Juan is the best Offensive line coach so they didn't promote him to DC until 12 years later. He isn't good DC but he is great at offensive line coach. B-more love Juan to stay here for long term....

I'm certainly not the biggest fan of Castillos work. Wasn't a fan when we brought him in to change to the zone blocking and wasn't a fan after his first year. I'm not sure how much credit he should get for last years success but certainly have a lot of respect for the man for sticking to his guns. Slowly but steadily I'm forced to respect him as a man. His coaching is gonna show this year with a new OC but the same group of guys who have been in his system for 2 years.

Castillo came into Baltimore with a scheme without the proper personnel to execute it and without an effective means to teach it and poor implementation. That said he made a mess of the place and nothing changes that.

Kubiak came in with a complete proven system and had a dedicated pit crew to teach every aspect of it. Castillo can be successful by merely NOT trying to fix what isn't broken

funny how just 2 offseasons ago, fans were calling for Castillo's head on a platter...now that the OL is our best unit on the team we now hear nothing about him until this article. when you come in and attempt to implement a brand new ZBS to players who are use to power blocking you will have some issues, i mean come on, an over matched, undersized center in gradkowski, a backup thats no longer on our team filling in for an injured KO, an injured Yanda, a lost in space Oher, and a 400 lb Mt. McKinney trying to stretch block was damn near laughable...but with a more athletic line and a full offseason of work our running game and pass protection improved drastically!!!! So i will give props to Castillo because we are quick to criticize, but never praise. Thanks for withstanding the backlash from us fans who really doesnt know what goes on behind the scenes!!! Hoping for more success this season!!!

Castillo has gone from vilified to accepted in a matter of a couple of years. Another year or two of the O-line performing like they did in 2014, he will soon be deified!

Since Juan came here late in the Super Bowl run he has been bad, hated, ok etc. The Ravens had one bad year. The year after the Super Bowl, although we missed the play-offs that year by losing the last game of the year. In a complete rebuilding year we just missed the play-offs. Can't blame Juan for that. As far as Juan I know only 1 thing.....Coach Narbaugh likes him, and that's plenty good enough for me.

I never understood why Reid did this.  This was when the Eagles tried the wide 9 approach.  Believe he was fired prior to the end of the season, or atleast removed from DC coach, and Todd Bowles took over.

Anyway, very well written article and agree we should have more articles like these.

Isn't it amazing how fast things can change sometimes. Castillo was perhaps the most hated man of all Ravens personnel all through, and after, the 2013 season. Hind sight probably tells us that a new scheme and some player personnel (Michael Orr and Gradkowski come to mind) were actually more the reason for such a poor season. But, most everybody blamed Castillo and wanted him fired. Kudos to Ozzie for rebuilding the OL, and Harbs for sticking with Castillo, because we all saw the vast difference in the 2014 season. I, for one, am Very glad things turned out the way they did, especially after learning more about Castillo by reading this article. I now find myself a big Castillo backer and I apologize for Everything I was thinking in 2013.

I remember a couple seasons ago fans were calling for this guy to get fired. Now we have the best O-line in football. Just goes to show that we should trust our front office and JH on football matters, and not be so quick to trash a guy.
