Dez Bryant for just his rookie contract is well worth more than Sergio Kindle and Jah Reid! And no he'd be different in Baltimore. Dallas has a culture that cuddles knuckleheads Baltimore doesn't. Even if we couldn't pay him beyond that rookie deal it would be worth it and then some, next question! I can't believe it is even a question.

Sarah, one slight corrrection: it was not the pick Ozzie used to select Jah Reid (#85) that he wasn't willing to part with, but our original thrid round pick (#90) which Ozzie eventually traded with the Eagles to get Reid.

As for this 80-yrd FG... Spectacular, indeed - but says precious little. Why would it be "Tucker's turn"? Why would he have to prove he can do it? It's a neat trick that has no practical implications of what a kicker can do for the team in real game situation - because no coach ever will attempt a FG from 80 yards in a real game - especially with someone with Flacco's cannon arm in the lineup...

Also... 80 yards, fine. Now let's compare the stats. Who would you want to kick for your NFL-team: someone who has once made a 80-yard FG in practice, or one who has proven over the years that he will reliably make his FG's within 52-53 yards on a regular basis?

So, Ryan, sorry, but it's not "Tucker's turn". Even if it turns out that this young guy didn't need dozens of tries to make this one FG - which we will never know. It will still make it no more one spectacular, but lucky effort - something irrelevant in the NFL.

Making a 61 yarder to win the game on Monday Night Football is more impressive

... and producing the stats Tucker has been producing is even more impressive.

I was so peeved when Jerry Jones moved up to draft Dez Bryant. Now, however I am not so sure it was a bad thing. He is a great WR, but would he be a good Raven? Not sure.

It's all in the past. Who knows how our team would do now with Bryant.

If we drafted him we wouldn't have picked Torrey...may not have picked up Jacoby. That one move could have cost our team's 2nd Super Bowl win. Now on the other hand we may have more than one...

If Bryant did pan out with us then our cap could be in jeopardy now, or our team could be held hostage like Dallas is currently. Did I want the move back in the day for Bryant? Heck yes I did. I was in the camp that Ray and Reed could mend all knuckleheads. Am I happy with our team now? Heck yeah. I trust Ozzie. He's earned that trust.

Interesting to hear the 2011 draft scenario. I think looking back at it now, I would have made that move considering Jah Reids' NFL career, along with the rest of the players we took before him (Kindle/Cody). We typically never receive negative reactions from players around negotiation time and think Oz would have gotten a deal done way early before it would have even reached the point of aggravation.

i dont think ozzie with all his wisdom could get the deal done that Dez is demanding right now. if he did then we wouldnt have many of the other pieces that make this team great we would have to cut renegotiate and restructure too much for just 1 Player... Not worth it

People like to say Breshad Perriman can't catch. He can catch. He's a great catcher, he catches some really tough balls, but he had 8 drops last year with a bad qb that has no touch to the ball he just cannons it all the time. Still shouldn't of dropped a couple of them but he's not going to lose sleep over it and neither am I. Some players just have bad games and drop easy ones. Calvin Johnson against us in 2013. He dropped 3-4 easy big gainers. We were lucky that day.

Oz isn't one to dwell on what he could have done, he has always dealt with the now, and what's in store for the future.....I'm sure we have a long list of players, that other teams wished they didn't pass on, all teams do, but you just can't look at the what if's....Focus on the what is....;)

100% agreed. Makes no sense to dwell on "What if's" because they "are not's" .

sign Tucker, W.Hill, Yanda. Let Upshaw walk. Release some role players that won't get much playing time, replace those old players with new ones for cheap through the draft and there we go... enough cap room.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Upshaw. He is a very underrated player and a BIG part of what we do. Just saying.

Both Bryant AND Thomas have both reportedly turned down offers that average over $12M/yr. We're tight against the cap now - can you imagine what the offseason would like like trying to get the Bryant deal done too? Those kind of numbers almost guarantee he wouldn't be getting a second contract from the Ravens.

Apparently, both receivers are looking at Megatron's contract as a starting point rather than the exception (thanks Detroit!), so it will be interesting to see how these contracts pan out. If Perriman tuns out to be a stud, we may be looking at some huge numbers in four years anyway (hopefully without the drama - Breshad seems to be a pretty grounded and humble kid).

The WR position has already peaked at ridiculous money with Megatrons deal. No way in hell Dez or any WR is worth $13+ Million thats just stupid. The position has started to devalue with the NFL becoming a passing league where rookies can have an immediate impact. Jerry Jones whiffed on Miles Austin and has changed his spending habits in FA.

Seriously, letting Boldin go kind of made since.  He was on the last year of his contract, he is an aging receiver and until the playoffs he was kind of a disappointment.  Not to mention keeping him around probably wouldn't have changed the 2013 season.  There was just too many other injuries on the offense to have any real hope that season.

Now Bryant is the kind of receiver you build a team around.  He is one of the top receivers in the league and is just now entering his prime.  Letting him sign with another team should get every fan of this team fired up.  The only exception is if somehow drafted his replacement during the 2014 draft.

Yes, Bryant's deal will probably reach ridiculous levels, but to fans, and anyone outside of the front office that doesn't understand the Raven's  budget would expect the team to pay whatever he is asking.

"Yanda will go down as one of the best offensive linemen in Ravens history (behind Jonathan Ogden), he's showing no signs of decline at 30 years old..." Not true. He injured his shoulder in 2012 and was diminished towards the end of the season and had offseason shoulder surgery and his 2013 season was less than stellar. Pro-bowl or not, we know that is a name game not a talent game and he certainly was far less than a pro bowl that year. I love Yanda but lets not kid ourselves. He is older, has had injury 0oncerns but to say he shows no sign of decline simply disregards the 2013 season. Yanda is well loved and I know this isn't a popular position but KO is a better investment and wont be near as expensive.

I disagree. Yanda over KO. Just they like when they let Grubbs bolt, KO is probably the odd man out.

Justin Tucker did boot an 80 yard field goal I was there. 2013 season in Denver game 1 during warm ups. There is an article about it online... I think for sure it was a 78. But that ball still had hang time to go another 5-6 yards.

I think i read DT wants 15mil a year. Thats outrageous. He might just be a product of Peyton Manning.

I agree that it is too much money to ask for but watching him play he really is great. I honestly think that he is part of the reason Peyton has actually done well these last couple years... He has been declining. Manning has always had great receivers. He had Harrison who was already great, Wayne who was still good the year after he left but he is getting up in age now, Dallas Clark in his prime.... Then all his weapons he has had in Denver. Honestly he was placed in the best places possible throughout his career to put up those big stats... I think that Brees is better. I think Manning is good but when people say he is the best ever I cannot stand it. Demarius should make around 12 million I think he is the best receiver in the AFC.
