I can't wait to see all the young guys on our team step up and dominate.

Timmy has what it takes to become domanant! Can't wait for some Raven football !

One of the thing that concerns me about Jernigan is can he handle all the snaps that come w/ a full season?  You can't help but to think that Jernigan played so well the last 3 games of the season was b/c he had fresh legs.

my only concern with Timmy, is not his stamina because we do a great job of rotating DLmen, but his tendency to freelance, it could really hurt if he jumps a gap and they run right where he was suppose to go and Mosley/DSmith gets blocked by the guy that was suppose to block Timmy, then we have a free runner in our secondary, and we dont have too many sure tacklers back there if im not mistaking

When you lose your stamina you usually lose your tequnique/discipline.  They pretty much go hand in hand.

I'm seeing Timmy as a next-gen star. There's always a General and a Lieutenant on the Ravens D. Suggs is the General now, we're waiting on a new set of Lieutenants. We've got Mosley, Jernigan, and Williams emerging. Let's see who else steps up. Is it time for the season to start already!?!?

I like Jernigan and Williams on our defense, but I am not comfortable with them as the anchors on our starting D-line smh. If you look at the tape and not just those 4 games we played without Ngata, you will see the difference between them and Ngata. The 4 games we played without Ngata were arguably against mediocre teams (Dolphins, Jaguars, Texans, browns). Im not buying the whole "remember those 4 games without Ngata" crap. I believe that we will need more work done to our interior D-line to let our LB's run free.

Red Bryant is still there if we need a veteran presence on the D-Line. He could block FG's as well that would be good little signing for Ozzie. A 1 or 2 year deal will do.

No worries, they have Tyson, Davis, Bilukidi and Guy to throw in the mix...

I wouldn't call Timmy a mauler.I remember him calling himself a slasher and I agree with him. That word fits his game best.I can't wait to see him get those double digit sacks this year.

Well if Davis lives up to his billing, then he can be the thunder, and Timmy the lightning....Good to have change of pace D-Linemen as well, can wear a O-Line down....:)

Ngata has 2/3s of the snaps while Jerrnigan had about 1/3. That's twice as many snaps but Ngata didn't do twice as good as Jernigan.

Yep, I believe Guy is going to be our guy though. He has the size, just hope he plays with the tenacity as Ngata did.

Every offensive coordinator we played last year game planned for Ngata.  I doubt that Jernigan garnered that type of attention.

I somewhat agree. Jernigan and Williams are not enough to replace Ngata, but I think they will be eventually. I think what will make up for Ngata is one of these young DE's stepping up and playing some good football. I think a Davis(1st and 2nd down) and Urban/Lewis Moore (pass rushing situations) could be that difference maker. That is yet to be seen though. If we can get better play out of the young guys than we have out of Canty I think that will be what makes up for ngata leaving.

You know what? I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict something that you guys probably laugh at. TJ is going to have the first double digit sack total for a Ravens D tackle. He'll be hell storming up the middle this year.

The DL is the deepest and strongest I've seen it for a while. Of course I'm assumining Urban, KLM and Davis play up to their potential this year. If they do, either Canty, Guy or Tyson might become casualties. I'm not sure they will keep 8 DL so one of these last 3 might get cut. I think Bikuldi is already gone.

This can be a real strength of the team despite losing Ngata. I think that is why Ozzie let him walk. Ngata didn't see that coming but he should have. Based on his comments last week he seems a little bitter about it. He should have come of the 8 million and retired a Raven. Even Suh wasn't that effective in Detroit so he probably won't be either. He'll hate playing on a less than great defense.

I wish he stayed but saying Suh wasn't effective in Detroit is far in left field... He was regarded as the best defensive tackle in the game today by most people. The defensive line is young but they still have a lot to learn, a lot to grow, and still have to play at a high level and early or the Ravens may dig themselves a giant hole at the beginning of the season

With Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb healthy that's already a plus. Arrington is also a solid tackler in the slot. Keenan Lewis had 84 tackles which lead his team last season with Houston. Will Hill did great last season in his limited action. Also add in how Daryl Smith and CJ Mosely both played pro bowl seasons last season. Pending injury our secondary on paper is top 5 in the league to be honest. Us without Jimmy last year is like the Cardinals without Peterson, Seahawks without Sherman (even though he doesn't cover #1 receiver like Jimmy does but you get the point). I'm also excited to see what Walker can do he is huge and not too bad of speed.

Ngata will be missed but not for long. Even with playing only 2/3 of the snaps he wore down last year... thus the ped's he got caught taking. With the deep DL rotation available and TJ's talent we will be clicking after a few games. Add in a tough pass rush and an improved secondary we should be solid on "D" for a long time.

When you lose your stamina you usually lose your tequnique/discipline.  They pretty much go hand in hand.

It's not that Timmy misses tackles or has bad technique because he certainly does, but as #20 said, he literally just freelances at times. He won't hold his two gaps and instead will make a one gap move and shoot it to penetrate for the sack and lose sight of the ball carrier or he'll over pursue like a one gapper and take himself out of the play. That type of deal, which is a concern, but Clarence Brooks is an absolute beast with developing the defensive line and something tells me he can get Jernigan to calm down.

I'm not sure how anyone would expect Jernigan to fill Ngata's shoes in any aspect. Ngata was a freak of nature who is bigger, stronger, >0.01sec slower than Jernigan and versitile anywhere on the D-line. Jernigan has youth but he's no more an athlete than Ngata was - the only way he comes close today is because of Ngata turning 31.
