12 Team Auction League with Super Flex

25 posts in this topic

I ran a league last year with a super-flex position (option to start a 2nd QB). I thought it was a fun and competitive league. Outside of the super-flex, it was a pretty basic format with PPR and 3 IDP slots.

Anyways, I have never done an auction style draft for fantasy football before and wanted to try it out so this thread is to gauge interest. Maybe no IDP with the auction? I'm not sure how that would work, but I am open to any ideas.

I have done auction a few times before, a lot more open than a snake draft as you can bid for whoever you want if you have the money.

I wouldn't mind trying an auction league. Never done one. This was a good league last year.

I have always wanted to try it, it seems like it takes a little more skill in managing a budget as opposed to luck of the draw.

Yeah it takes some getting used to but once you do, it becomes so much nicer since you can do so much with it. You can go all out and get studs at most of the starting positions but have no depth or you can do things the opposite way as well. And order doesn't matter so you don't have to reach for players if you are at the front or back of the order, you just have to spend more than everyone else. The drafts do take longer than a snake draft though by quite a bit since everyone has to bid for each player.

That could be a reason to leave out the idp players. But I'm good either way.

I do a ton of draft king leagues which are salary capped but this should be a new challenge.

How does the bidding order work?

Dunno how this format works, but I believe the draft order is the order in which you can nominate a player. In the auction league I was in, someone would have 30 seconds to nominate a player, then there's be a bidding process on that player until there's a clear-cut winner. Then the next person in the draft order has 30 seconds to nominate a player, and so on. There might have been a timer on how long the bidding process can last.

The nomination process can have a pretty fun degree of strategy - you can nominate a player you think is overrated in the hopes that someone else will exhaust their budget on him, for example - but 30 seconds was WAY too long. Everyone else's mileage may vary, but that's just what I remember of my times in an auction league.

Yeah, I have done it for basketball before and that's how it worked.

Ok yes. I can. See a lot of strategy involved here then.

I'm trying to get back to the MB, but I am definitely down for a Gabe league, especially an auction league.

IDP auctions might be a bit rough on people new to auctions, especially since it is also a Superflex.  Those are two wrenches that affect bidding values (you wouldn't be able to use a standard value chart).  I would prefer an auction without IDP, but I am down for either.

Reserve a spot for me if its happening.

I'd be up for this if it is still relevant.

I think we have 5 people now, so still time to get a few more. I'd like to have 12, but as a super-flex I think 10 would work.

I agree, I think IDP is too much.

Before I join I need to ask, how many leagues for one person is "too many?"

I cut myself off after 5 personally. It got to be too much work and not enough fun.

I'll do three leagues. I drafted 4 MFL 10s (might do more) and I do a lot of daily.

Depends on you. I have a rule of only doing one a year since I tend to lose interest in the ones I'm not doing as well in. I broke that rule this year to make the dynasty league my second, but that's the exception.

Five is a good number, I was in seven last year and it required a good amount of time to be active and competitive.
