"I think his comment has been misinterpreted."

... and I, Mr. Eisenberg, think his comment has been misphrased and "misconsidered".

Ngata is a beloved Raven...now and forever. Except of course when we play against each other.

Yeah, this one communicational foulup won't negate everything he's done in - and for - the purple jersey. Ring of Honor-bound beyond doubt.

... but sure as hell he could do with a better communication advisor...

I've been wondering why some players can understand that you don't have to indicate in your new town that your previous station was in some ways inferior... Luckily, there are players who seem to understand it. When Jacoby came over from Houston, he never said one bad word about the Texans. (and I'm quite sure he won't say a bad word about the Ravens now that he's in San Diego). Leach went as far as saying he loved being there and planned to retire as a Texan... Owen Daniels never for a moment hid the fact that he didn't want to leave Houston nd loved playing there...

... and did we like any of these players any less for that? Nope - because they then came and played like Ravens. I guess just about everybody in Denver knows that Peyton's heart and soul will forever stay in Indianapolis - but do they care? No, because he's giving his all to Denver.

Why do some players still feel it's necessary to somehow say their new team is superior to their previous one - even if everybody knows it ain't so? Mason saying he chose the Jets not because they gave him more money, but because "he felt the Jets gave him a better chance to win a Super Bowl"... Ellerbe "feeling" the Dolphins' D was his real place... and now Ngata with this really unfortunate thing... Guys, if you play well, they'll love you even if you say you never wanted to leave Baltimore. On the other hand, if you don't play the way your contract indicates you should, they'll hate you, no matter what nice things you say...

Simple as that.

Stop with these patronizing articles cerebral John Eisenberg. Don't write these articles justifying Ngata's intention with what he said. WE GET IT! As surprising to you as it may sound, we the fans are fairly intelligent as well. What Ngata said at best was thoughtless and at worst was insulting and demeaning to our defense and its past and present players. That is all there is to it.

Players come and go, but the team remains. Well, except for the Colts. I've been a die hard Raven since the beginning, and feel VERY fortunate for the success the team has had. Haloti played hard ball with Ozzie and lost. Thus he got sent to football purgatory in Detroit. Of course he has to pump up the team that is paying him $16 mil a year for a DT, but no reason to even bring up Baltimore really. Let's face it, he's bitter. Hopefully, for his sake, he can help Detroit to a playoff victory for the first time in 23 years (a streak second only to the pathetic Bengals) and an APPEARANCE in an NFL Championship/Super Bowl for the first time in 57 years. A streak second to none. Go Ozzie!

Agreed, talking up his new team is fine and dandy but show some respect for the team you came from and got you that nice SB ring

Unfortunately Ngata had a good career with the Ravens for years and he is getting old. He got suspended for using ped's last season. It was good for him to move on to the lions. The lions can have our leftovers.

Not now. Not as long as he plays for a team that is a foe. Wishing him well is like wishing Ben Roethlisberger well.

Ngata is doing what ALL traded players do. He is talking up his new team. I do not believe for a moment he is slamming the Ravens. He will undoubtedly retire a Raven so let it be. Go Ravens.

its funny that the part you quoted and painted red pretty much supports what eisenberg is saying. no it doesn't.. Eisenberg states. "He wasn’t talking about the quality... he was talking about the style.." Eisenberg left out Ngata's comments regarding the players and their athleticism, which speaks to quality..

the players ngata named are all Dliners. what's he supposed to do, name all 10 others on D ? lol

Its a huge stretch to suggest he was talking about the defense as a whole since he did not mention the best defenders on that team. see previous comment

Cant see how this is disrespectfull to Ray unless you believe ray  played on the Dline ..... this is a poor attempt at being witty... neither myself nor Eisenberg singled out Ray as being disrespected

Bottom line: I like most of what Eisenberg writes but I feel as though this one he got wrong. He can't be right 100% of the time and this, as far as I'm concerned was a big swing and a miss. He is batting a solid .750 though :D

My comments in purple

Ngata comments about quality where linked to the Dline.

Its why he ony mentioned Dliners in his statement.

Which btw is no suprise since the lions play a 4/3 defense which is a different style then the ravens 3/4.

3/4 dliners are space eaters taking up blockers so the lbers can make plays.

4/3 dliners are the play makers who are supposed to be aggressive trying to get in the backfield as soon as they can to disrupt plays.

ansah is way more athletic then any dliner the ravens had in ngata time here.

same can be said about JJ and trapp tbh but its not that much of a suprise cause neither are build like a 3/4 dliner.

Eisenberg is right when he said people misinterpreted ngata comments.

I knew people would take it the wrong way as soon as it came up in that late for work article which i said the same as im saying now.

Its really not hard to connect the dots unless you are still pissed that ngata bolted which if you read that article and this one are still plenty of people  -_-

As long as we protect Joe when we play the Lions.....in 2017. Other then that I don't really care what Haloti says. See you in the Ravens Ring Of Honor in a few years. Thank you for your time here. As the players say...."It's A Business".

I wish Haloti the best....unless it is against the Ravens. He was an iconic player for us, and now that he is nearing the end of his career I don't think people should read into his every comment. I think that the whole thing about using enhancement drugs to boost his performance and the subsequent suspension last year was a major reason he chose to do a "new start" with another team. Yes he was traded, but he could have agreed to terms with the Ravens if he wished to. IF the Ravens D felt slighted by that comment....then let's make 2015 a statement year! GO RAVENS!

The dynamic duo will fill the void left on game day but I worry more about the locker room presence that we lost. More importantly how that will affect the play and spirit of Suggs. He has been mopeing all off season because he lost one of his best friends. I think the trade was a real gut punch to Suggs that he may never recover from on or off the field. He has not been his usual self on camera and even showed up at workouts out of shape. I can't believe I am saying this but he may have lost his fire. Let's all hope I am wrong because losing Ngata we can withstand but if Suggs can't bring it this season we are in trouble. That means more double teams on Doom which throws our whole pass rush out of sync.

His comments were only meant to let his new team know that he is all in and ready to play. Thinking that he would intentionally slam the organization, teammates and friends that he spent 9 prosperous years with is silly.

I am just surprised that some fans are so upset, like he had singled out the Ravens and really disrespected us. I thought the comments were mild and he was just being complimentary to his new team and teammates. Even if Haloti really believed that the Lions d-line was inferior to what we had, he was probably wise to just say what he said because why would you want to disrespect your new team. I am sure that the fans in Detroit are hoping for good things this year with Haloti on their defense.

I'm sorry but; Pee's "D", is far from Raven Defenses of old. Maybe Ngata really is stoked to be with a "D" that is aggressive once again.

I don't care what he says or does when he was receiving a paycheck from Baltimore he did his job , he is gone now and owes no one anything.....

Still my guy and I will certainly miss him.

It is what it is.  We will forget this in a month unless he gets references from TV jerks during the regular season. .

Ngata comments about quality where linked to the Dline.  Thanks for proving my point with this gem. Eisenberg said Ngata was talking about style and not quality.

No, Eisenberg was wrong and you yourself inadvertently pointed that out above. lol

I knew people would take it the wrong way as soon as it came up in that late for work article which i said the same as im saying now. You're just as wrong now as you were then.

Its really not hard to connect the dots unless you are still pissed that ngata bolted which if you read that article and this one are still plenty of people  -_- Some may be upset with Ngata being gone but I'm certainly not. I mean, we unloaded and ageing, descending player, saved a ton of money, got younger, faster and healthier. Unloading Ngata was a blessing in disguise.  :D

quality is linked to style....

you should read the whole thing before deciding to comment.

its hilarious you completely ignored the part about going from a 3/4 to a 4/3 defense.

guess that part combined with the quality comment and the names ngata mentioned pretty much meant you where wrong.

ah well if you think ngata disrespected the ravens then go ahead.

people will be mad for no reason even if they wont admit it.

Another non-story about another "ex" Raven. Some things never change.

Sort of scraping the bottom for anything that might pass for an editorial style piece. As you say, a non- story.

If Ngata were still here we would not have had the ammo to trade up for Maxx Williams(he would be a Steeler) and we would be without one of our fourth round selections.

I lost respect for Ngata after his testing positive and subsequent lame excuse.

Good Luck Haloti!! The Lions have gotten better up front. and we will be just fine. Don't forget Timmy J, B-Will, and the new comer Carl Davis are very hungry. and please remember when Haloti was serving his 4 game suspension, Timmy J filled in admirably.

anybody with the smallest amount of commons sense already understood this.

Lions defense has been trash for the longest, especially compared to the Ravens, even in our down times.

Yea maybe.... but Ngata still left for what amounts to not much (after taxes, and agents fees) and that says a lot about where his heart was (or wasn't). Not surprised either way... Hope the best for him but really excited to see how Bwilliams and TJernigan step it up and replace him!

there is no amount of taxes or agent commission that reduces $16M to "not much"

risenconquer... take that $16million is over 4 years. That is 4 million a year minus his 55% for taxes or 2.2 a year. Minus his agents 4-5% and we are talking 1.8 per. I read that he walked away from in the ball park of $1 million in endorsements in BMORE.... that means he still left for around 8ooK per year.... still significant -I agree and over 4 years that is 3.2million (but that is if he plays out his contract). This year his base pay is the same! He is 31... do you think he will be worth the same at 35? I think there is a good chance that Haloti is released bf he can see all 3.2 of that difference!

Relax folks, he gave his heart while he was hear, people get bent out of shape so quickly. Why not wish him well and keep moving. We love spending someone else money.
