[News] Javorius Allen Is The New Michael Oher

48 posts in this topic

Great story about a good player and an even better man. Maybe, in this season when so much has gone horribly wrong, this could be the beginning of something great. With Buck Allen and hometown hero Terrence West now our primary running backs, maybe we can get back to being the type of team we've always been - a tough, defensive oriented team with a smash mouth running attack. Add in a healthy Justin Forsett, and we could have a running attack second to none - and all of them great members of the community as well! Go Buck - Ravens fans will be in your corner!

Awesome for Buck Allen to make it to the NFL from where he was! However, that is right where the comparison with Oher should cease and desist!

How do you consider him a bust? He started and played on a Super Bowl Team. Played every game for 5 Years and now is the left Tackle on a team that is 11-0, Carolina. Also, by the way he has hardly any penalties.

The reason the Ravens did not sign Michael Oher wasn't because the Ravens thought he was a bust. It was because left tackles get paid too much after their rookie contract. We knew we could replace him easily via draft and we did with Rick Wagner who has played solid when he has played. Hopefully Buck can run behind Yanda these next couple weeks and be a star. We need that burst on our offense and he looks like he can have it. Fast downhill runner which would fit our offense better... Forsett jukes too much and makes us lose yards. Also Buck Allen's speed is quite faster. Nothing against Forsett. Both running backs compliment each other.

You're the perfect example of remembering the good while forgetting the ugly. Yes, he did start for us, yes he won a  Super Bowl for us, yes he started all games. But I don't know how being on 11-0 makes you a good player. By that logic, all our players are bad players because they are on 3-7 team. Flawless logic.

But I also remember how he was a constant liability in pass protection. Also how he never adjusted to playing the blind side in the NFL and had to be moved to right side, where I admit he did a decent job at times. But most definitely he was not a success you expect out of a 1st rounder. And that is just flat out untrue that he did not have many penalties. He might have cleared up that area now but I remember couple of times (including our SB season) where he did multiple false starts on ONE DRIVE.

So for your sake let me rephrase this, "Javorius Allen Is The New Michael Oher, i.e a unexpectedly below average?" Better? I

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing Oher. He just wasn't what we hoped from 1st round pick (which is demonstrated by the fact that he wasn't resigned) but I wish him all the best with all of his future endeavours. I just hope Buck Allen will be even better player.

Yeah, Mike's having a great year for the Panthers, might actually get another ring. That bust talk is nonsense.

Says a lot more about the hypercritical negative nellies than it does about Oher, a workout warrior and ultimate team player who gave 110% the whole time he was here, without a wiff of off-the-field issues.

It's easy to sit on your behind and pick apart our players for not being perfect, but it takes real courage to come into work everyday and bust your butt trying to get better in the face of such criticism.

I Remember his first 2 years vividly and all his penalties But he has cut those down in the last few years. Also, him being moved from right tackle to left tackle then back to right tackle was not good for his development and the coaching staff needs to take blame for that. Also, he was the 4th Tackle taken in the 2009 draft and he has done better than the other 3 before him. The First is not playing football anymore, the second plays for the Bengals and the 3rd is Eugene Monroe, that's another story for another day. Pro football Focus rates him very high, I think only Marshall Yanda is higher than him on the Ravens now. I hope Buck Allen is a Great player too, Michael Oher had Way too high expectations thrusted on him by the Media which loves to build people up and tear them down.

A good, realistic view of things, as opposed to all the people glorifying Oher like he was the lord and saviour for us, no critical thinking whatsoever.

I'm a Panther fan that come looking to see if Allen would likely get a lot of carries this week against a weak Cleveland run defense because I need a back in fantasy,, however I couldn't help but read his story and it is a lot like Oher's. Oher has done real well for my Panthers and Allen is likely to do well to.

I guess the way we grow up helps shape us for adulthood but Allen seems to be a really good person and that's a recipe for success.

Sounds like they're gonna give Terrance West some carries and he sounds hungry so I'm not sure what to do but I wish the Ravens luck with Allen.

Sorry you guys have had so many injuries this year,, better luck next year!

I predicted that Taliaferro wouyld unseat Forsette as the starting RB. I didn't think it would transpire like this and with Allen. Those gaping alleys from Kubiak are gone and watching Forsette run into a lineman's backside gets old. I don't see Forsette getting his job back especially since Allen , West and Taliaferro are more physical and suited to Trestman's system.
