[News] Late For Work 7/10: Best Five-Year Outlook: Ben Roethlisberger Or Joe Flacco?

“It was always in the back of my mind that the last thing I wanted to do was test free agency, because I didn’t want to have the possibility to leave this place,” Koch told Wilson.

I don't think I've ever heard a player coming up on free agency say something like this.  Man I totally respect that sir!  Glad you want to keep your family here and retire a Raven. #Respect

Looking at Ben vs Joe 5 years down the road, I see Joe having more success. Joe's already passed Ben. Ben was better than Joe, but not anymore.

BB is truthfully a elite QB, kills me to say it, but he has made so many big time plays by buying time, and taking nasty hits.....As far as Flacco it doesn't matter if he is ever viewed as elite or not, but his record can't be ignored, as well as his winning percentage, and i'm more than good with that.

It seems likely that the next 4 years will very similar to the last 4 years. The Ravens are 6-3 against the Steelers in that time and have a 10-4 playoff record. The Steelers have an 0-2 playoff record.

Given the tremendous talent and depth currently on the Ravens it's safe to say they are a threat to make another deep playoff run. Given the complete rebuilding process just beginning for the Steeler defense it is likely they are not.

Which situation seems best???? It really isn't even a question.

Sam Koch has his head on straight. Knows he was paid good money and that the value of his family's happiness is worth more than the "Almighty Dollar".

The reason this is an Under the Radar signing is because it frees up immediate cap space, which in turn could be money spent to extend Yanda, and the cap space that is immediately freed up could be used to extend KO and Tucker. Because with 13 mil coming off the books for Rice, Ngata, and Jacoby dead money, then we can extend Flacco and make a splash or 2 in free agency since our edge rushers are getting up in age, or since it will probably be highly likely we release Webb next season, we could make a play for a big name corner on the FA market, or if Dez Bryant, or Demariyus Thomas pays this season under the franchise tag, then the will be available...just a pipe dream, i know!! But I said all of that to say this, if we lock up Yanda, KO, and Tucker, then our only big UFA next season will be Upshaw, for once our team wont be plucked by free agency.

Roethlisberger: 26-19 (.578) regular-season record, no playoff wins

Flacco is 28-20 (.583) regular-season record, five playoff wins, one Super Bowl win.

Thank you Hensley FOR bringing some common sense to this article. When looking at the above FACTS, WHICH QB WOULD YOU WANT ON YOUR TEAM!

The first mistake was even asking a Browns-guy about who the better QB will be: it's kinda more than ovbvious by now that the people in Cleveland have no idea how to tell a good QB...

As for Koch: not only is he a loyal Raven and a damn consisten punter - he has an immaculate passing average (1/1), and immaculate 1st down pct (1 first down from 1 passing attempt) and a rushing TD ;)

Also, I don't remember him ever screwing up a kick hold (at least "well" enough to make the kick any harder to make). Further down the list: no off-the-field issues, no on-the-field issues, no sign of tendency to get injured...

... oh, and he can even throw beanbags excellent :)

Though there may be no real chance of it, I think he would at least deserve some cosideration for the Ring of Honor.

If both Jernigan and Mosley goes on playing like they did in their rookie seasons, there's a more than fair chance that years down the road the 2014 draft class produces the best one-two punch after 1996 (I don't think the Ogden-Ray Lewis combo can, with any stretch of the imagination, be bettered...). Jimmy Smith and Torrey seemed like a hard-to-beat combo, but these two guys can make it.

I don't remember who said the "if you once, for a change, don't preceive things from the money point of view, your choices tend to suddenly seem much, much clearer"...

Flacco might not have the stats ben has but he is and will for the next 5 yrs have more success. not be a homer but I see the ravens winning 2 if not more in the next 5 yrs. Flacco has a super bowl MVP many nfl records... he will be in the HOF

Of the last 9 games that Flacco and Rothlesberger faced off Flacco has won 6 of those 9. http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/teamvsteam?opp=3 Ben has better numbers and a better surrounding cast but he still cant beat Flacco consistently. You don't get to the Super Bowl on stats you get there with wins. History should not be ignored especially now that Flacco has some weapons similar to what Ben has had for years. As for those ESPN reporters, if they aren't smart enough to look at this and make a better decision, then clearly ESPN reporters are too stupid to look at the facts and make an unbiased decision. This isn't a homer speaking, this is a person who looks at the facts and can make a rational decision.

I hate being a complainer, but it's annoying me how it seems like every LFW article this week has had a steelers article in it.Has anyone else noticed that and feels annoyed by that or is it just me?

Anyway,I see Ben having more statistical success in the next 5 years.HE'S NOT ELITE,but his offense is stacked.Brown,Bryant,Wheaton and Bell will probably all be there for the next five years and our offense won't be that deep unless we get lucky with Perriman,Williams and a few more future draft picks.

There are 4 elite QB's in the league and Ben is not one of them.If you gave Rogers,Brady,Manning or Brees Brown,Miller,Bell,Bryant and Wheaton and let them throw the ball as much as Ben did last year they all would've thrown for 50 TD's easily. He's not on the level of those guys. He's in a tier right below them with Rivers,Flacco,Luck,Romo and Ryan.

@HomeoftheBRAVENS...I've noticed as well but O well the ravens love to make the doubters look wrong and stupid. I also hate when steeler fans talk about ben throwing for 6 touchdowns against us. in the first game we destroyed them when both teams were healthy. we lost the second game with corners from practice squad and the street that were literally on the team for a few days. the third game we atleast had corners for a few weeks and beat the hell out of them. the media forgets that and forget you can't win just by offense, they have no defense. Ravens only threat is the bengals. But they have Dalton. Dalton is all I got to say. haha. if key playing positions are healthy we'll be really good

Media is pro Steelers....we all know this. So we all know that Flacco IS the guy that you want under center with the game on the line. If Lee Evans would have held on to the ball then Flacco would most likely have as many rings as Rothlisberger, and definitely more playoff victories. Just keep hammering the Steelers and this debate will go away. GO RAVENS!

Let me say this once and for all. Joe Flacco is a more talented QB than Ben is. Ben is elusive and stretches plays better than Joe does which gives his receivers (all of who are better on balance than Ravens receivers have been) to get open and then tosses them up. He is not necessarily as good a pocket passer or as good a thrower of the ball as Joe is period.

BTW Ngata was never a true Raven at heart it turns out. He was all about the money, didn't compromise in wanting to stay here and decided to go where the money was better (don't blame him for that), but shut up and pay homage to your brothers on the Ravens man! Don't slight the legacies of GOATs such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs man! Be happy with your new team, but don't ever say that is the best defense you've been on. You were a part of the Ravens 2006 defense, don't you ever forget that!

A guy who makes those kinds of statements without considering he played alongside guys like J.J., Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Suggs, Dumervil, etc.... SMH.... So disappointing.

(You could have said that the Lions were similar, reminiscent, or even just as good, but to disrespect all of these guys likethis is just shameful Haloti!)

With that OL in Pittsburgh.... I will be surprised if Ben finishes the season this year. I know that they have a ton of weapons and they do.... and the have changed the offense under Todd Haley to try to protect Ben by getting the ball out of his hands quickly but that OL is subpar at best.... and in our division not being protected could be disastorous -especially this year. Our front 7 may be the best in the league. The Browns actually have a very talented young front 7 who play with an attitude. The Bengals.... have an all star cast In their front 7. IDK... just saying... the sqeelers have made big investments in the weapons but nothing in the way of protecting ben.... I see ben lighting it up in some games and getting lit up in a lot more! Long season for meatheadburger!
