Training camp position battles.

Other than having a super cool name, I am intrigued by Steelman. I know pretty much NO ONE in our organization likes the wildcat, but Steelman would be a great tool IF that were something we would do.

I guess what I am saying is he strikes me as a useful versatile multifaceted player.

*shrugs* I dont know...

I'm interested in the D-line battles. Locks include Brandon Williams, Tim Jernigan & Carl Davis.

Is Chris Canty on the bubble?- No, Canty is cheap and has veteran experience. At the very worst he's a great rotational player. Which is important for a team like ours.

Returning from last year injury are KLM & Brent Urban; can they make the team? KLM is done imo. Urban can very well make the team.

Returning are Lawrence Guy, DeAngelo Tyson & Christo Bilukidi who were serviceable but can they make the grade with the additional comp? Guy has his value as an interior rusher and Tyson has played well in the past. So yes.

Others competing include Zach Thompson and Casey Walker.

Eleven guys fighting for x-number of spots.

Linebacker also has Art Brown, Zach Orr, Albert McClellan, & Steve Means looking for spots. All but Orr make the team.

Those are the positions I'm interested in.

i still feel we need an upgrade at corner.

I am worried about suggs and doom having down years.

I believe our interior D will be a bigger strength this year though pass rush wise.

Boykins would have been a great pickup. He's a very good corner. For a 5th round pick? thats a steal.

As for offense I really feel zuttah can be upgraded on..

I know it's not instant gratification but I'm hoping the Ravens found a gem in Rashaan Melvin. Prior to arriving in Baltimore, he never saw the field but acclimated well until getting killed vs the Pats. Second guy on the development train is 4th round pick Tray Walker. Learning the CB position in the NFL takes lots of time but both Melvin and Walker have good size. They just need time and opportunity to develop. Admittedly, neither are early round picks (b4 we selected Perriman, I was hoping for Marcus Peters) but we should be okay at CB with who we have.  See also http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2015/8/3/9086981/dark-horse-roster-candidate-who-is-quinton-pointer

Again, imo, Ozzie is working on the Suggs/Doom situation with the likes of ZDS & Steve Means. I expect another ER to be added in next year's draft. Same reasoning can be applied to Zuttah also with Urschel &/or Jensen.

All in all, I think Ozzie has this roster under control.

Quinton Pointer is someone to watch

Keep an eye on Tramine Jacobs as well. Not saying the guy is a stud but he's a solid player and would provide good depth. I'm not sure he makes the team with the numbers the Ravens have bit he could certainly be a PS option again this year. I'd take him over Asa at this moment.

He was, but word is that it was actually a legit injury that would have kept him out for a large part of the season.

Same thing happened to Aaron Mellette.  Then the knee injury ended his career.

Which was sad, I thought he was a good prospect.

Coaches have raved about Greenwood as well.  CB has turned into DL almost, where every guy in camp has a shot at the roster.  Asa Jackson might actually be the low man on the totem pole.

I think when healthy, Asa Jackson is one of the better corners on the team, and is also a decent punt returner. However, he rarely makes it through a season healthy. I wouldn't object to Jacobs or Greenwood taking his spot.

The reports on Asa have not been pretty this offseason, and his play on the field last year would seem to back that up.  It's been reported that he continues to lose reps after getting beat by pretty much everybody.

Yea i was impressed with Chad as well. I just get the sense that the defense has more of an attacking nature this year. Was a lot more man to man being played on the back end with guys like Timmy and Urban getting good pressure with just a 4 man rush. Keep in mind neither Suggs or Doom practiced yesterday so they'd obviously improve the pass rush even more.

It was a lot of good competition out there.

TC starts at 7.  I am assuming people are getting seated atm.

Looking at WR, you have to think about building a team.

If we only take 6 WR's, you have to look at skill set and what one guy may bring to the table that others don't.

SSS is a lock. So is Perriman.

This isn't being on Camps jock, but he's the only pure slot receiver we have, has the ability to run crisp routes over the middle and sit down in zones to pick up 3rd downs. Plus he's a returner - 2 niche roles that no one else fills. So I like his chances.

I think Marlon, Aiken and Butler are very similar. Decent route running, good size, good hands and can play outside or inside. Aiken is a great special teamer and has shown the ability to make big catches in limited chances. I think he's a lock.

Marlon has the 2nd most experience and though it wasn't consistent, at times he made ridiculous catches while absorbing huge hits. That one game against I think cinci where he got the concussion he was playing unreal. He needs to show more but I think his experience will be valued. So unless Butler just completely blows him away I think Marlon makes it over him.

So if it comes down to only taking 6 receivers, imo it's between Waller and Butler. And to me, it's going to come down to if they offer something the group doesn't already have. Butler flashed amazing hands and a knack to get open, but he's very similar to Aiken and Brown and unlikely to steal snaps from them.

Waller, besides being a draft pick from this year is a great run blocker coming from the triple option in college. May already be our best run blocking receiver. Plus his size gives him the versatility to possibly be used as a TE. With pitta out that has value. Keeping him gives you a 6th WR and 4th TE.

So if it's 6, I think Waller takes the last spot and unfortunately Butler finds himself on the PS again, ready to be called up if there's an injury or if one of the young WR's flames out.

I agree with you about SSS, Perriman and Camp probably being safe. However I think Ozzie may be hoping all these guys play lights out in the preseason to get a late round pick out of one of them. I see a scenario where one of them gets traded for a conditional 5th or 6th and Waller makes it as the 6th guy.
