Ravens All Time Worst Players

221 posts in this topic

I haven't heard this mentioned and it's my biggest issue with the play.

Everyone blasted Torrey for this his entire career, yet some are giving Evans a pass for it here.

The play isn't even there to be made if Evans catches the ball with his hands!

He turns and could have easily plucked the ball with both hands, yet he waits and let's it come into his body. Bc of that the defender has time to make the play and Evans never was able to secure the ball properly.

It's a weak strip. Heads up play for sure. Great instincts, but it barely required any strength to knock the ball out and that's bc Evans never secures it. You can say he didn't have time which is probably true - but that's not a valid excuse!

He didn't have time bc of poor technique and letting the ball into his chest. He catches that with his hands and it's game over.

Poor technique and horrible situational awareness.

After his AFCCG gaff, Lee never played another down in the NFL.

Just an all around pathetic showing. He knew it, and it broke him.

Some of the worst players are guys that didn't play. To make it legit, let's say in order to qualify for the Worst Ravens Team, you had to play in at least 8 games (half a season). On a side note, Boller. Yes he didn't live up to expectations, but he's hardly the worst. We went to the playoffs with him (2003 and in 2004 we finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker). There are others who were worse, Case, Blake, Harbaugh.

In his first season he was looking like a future all pro..

I never understood why Oher had this perception during his rookie season.  It was either the movie, the hype, that one preseason game where he drove a guy 20 yards back with a bloody nose, or a combo of all the above.

In Oher's rookie season, without looking it up, he gave up like 9 sacks and had about 7 penalties.  That's horrible by all standards.  Just looked it up.  He gave up 8 sacks (worth 51 yards) and had 9 penalties.  And then there's they absolute beating he took in the 4 games he played at LT.

Oher was never good outside of the 2012 playoff run.  He was always average at best with a ton of hype behind him.

I disagree. He was awesome in his rookie season. Sorry but i'm rather harsh on players but Oher in 2009 was awesome. He was 2nd in OROT and was a top 8 tackle by PFF. He hasn't touched those heights since.

Did you just say "Sorry"? Is it the end of the world?   :P jk

Oher was pretty good in his first season. Too bad everything went downhill from there.

IMO the worst ravens I remember was Boller. It mostly has to do with the impact he could have made had he been an average QB, instead of a bad one.

We have a few posters whose opinions are very important and critical to the success of the ravens/the general well-being of ravens nation...in their own minds ;).

Don't forget that Oher was actually an asset as a run blocker in his first two years. Tackle isn't just about pass blocking. Oher was a dynamite run blocker. That's why people liked him. Then his third or fourth year he choked and started sucking at everything.

My Googleizer says yes, Panthers.

Scary thing for them is his slated to be their starting LT with Johnathan Martin as the backup. Could be a long year for Cam.

I think the Oher situation was the product of a snowball effect involving technical and mental issues, combined with inflated expectations. He came in expected to develop into a pro bowl OT. Early on it looked that way. He was heralded as a tenacious run blocker, with an amazing first step that would develop into a dynamic pass blocker with time.

Then teams started to complain about that first step, and what started out as an asset turned into a huge liability in terms of false starts. Then he got the yips and false starts became a huge problem. Then we started shifting him back and forth between positions. Then, partially as a result of the hype from the movie and his draft status, the fan base felt letdown and turned on him. After that it was just a matter of time.

Oher was definitely a disappointing player for us but the fact that we're talking about him as one of the worst Ravens ever is a testament to the inflated expectations. Similarly to Boller, was he disappointing? Absolutely. One of the worst? Far, faaar from it.

yeah people forget he started on that SB team and did not allow a single sack in the play offs.

whether people like it or not he was a big reason flacco could tear it up, same goes for mckinnie and everyone else on the o-line.

he is far from the worst player ever.

Did anyone see those photos on the main page of the app. ?

16 starting QB's in the history of the RAVENS.

Look at that list. Tell me about each of those QB's and tell me again Kyle Boller is the worst out of all of them.

I will loose respect for you if you do....

( as I have said before, disappointment and worst are not necessarily the same thing )

Eugene Monroe..

one of the most overpaid nfl soft OL around. I was against his signing and don't believe we can win with a guy manning Joe's blind side.

What are you talking about? Monroe is no Ogden but he's certainly a top 10 LT in the league. He was slowed by injury last year but has been pretty durable otherwise. Talk about prisoner of the moment.

Yeah unless someone wets the bed year one of a deal, it is hard to say that it is bad(similar to a rookie not being all pro year 1). Plus from what I recall, Monroe had a great season in 2013 on top of dealing with injuries last year.

Since the trend in the slow off-season is usually rating the best players, such as the Top 100 and best ravens players of all time, I thought it would be neat to do the opposite, the Ravens All-Time WORST players.

The idea here is to put together a 53 man roster of clunkers, busts, has-beens and never have-beens.

I'm going to start with just a few players, and as we accrue more posts hopefully we can all collaborate to a complete 53-man Stinker roster.

Tony Banks

Frank Walker

Yamon Figurs

Kyle Boller

Sergio Kindle

Sorry bro. But all these dudes are 10x's Oniel Cousins. All of them. In fact, Oniel Cousins could make up the top 7-10 Worst Ravens all by himself.

I don't feel as bad about Chykie Brown but I'd still take the 5 on your list any day over him

Eugene Monroe?  That's crazy talk.  He was very good in 2013 and was injured for most of 2014, which clearly effected his play.

That list is pretty bad.  They essentially just looked at PFF rankings and took nothing else into consideration.  PFF stats are great, but my no means are they an end all be all.

Dan let's see how he does this year. He's paid like a top 5 LT and he's not top 5. My issue with him is based on watching um let's see every single game he's played in as a Raven.

Thanks for the awesome rebuttal!

Ok did you forget about his 2013 season here as mentioned above? He played fantastic and probably saved the franchise QB from a major injury. He is the best LT this team has had since Ogden He has no business being listed on a worst Ravens players thread.

Does Terrell Owens count since he was going to be traded to us but cried and cried and cried to the NFLPA until he got to sign with the Eagles instead? :P

Yeah he would be near the top of the list.   Right with Rolondo.
