[News] Late For Work 7/9: Haloti Ngata On Lions: Never Been Part Of Defense Like This

68 posts in this topic

Flacco has been with a play or two away from attending 4 SB's if you want to talk technicality. We have lost to the teams that have made it to the SB. Some who have won, and some who we would have matched up better with than the AFC representative.

I would say if Flacco doesn't at least get to the super bowl this year or in the next few, the fingers have to point right back at him. Other teams with this much talent in the building and out should be doing something other than just appearing in the playoffs.

There are other talented teams that are coached well, but not one of them has won as many playoff games as Joe since he's been in the league. We had a lot of talent before drafting Joe, but we definitely weren't "doing something other than just appearing in the playoffs", except for missing the playoffs altogether. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed played 6 years together before Flacco was drafted: 0 playoff wins and only 2 playoff appearances. Other qbs have actually had a lot more talent on offense than the Ravens, yet none of them have come close to doing what Joe has done in the postseason, based on wins or stats. If Joe stopped playing at a level high enough to get to the SB, then you could point the finger at him, but so far that has not been the case at all. He has given us a better chance to win the SB on a yearly basis than any other qb in the league, and he has played well enough to be in 4 SBs. You can't point the finger at him when our depleted secondary gives up two 14 point leads, Lee Evans fails to secure a perfectly thrown TD pass, or Boldin and Houshmenzadeh drop key passes. And who are these other teams that are doing more than the Ravens in the playoffs?

Foxboro is also a tough venue for the same reason: "less" air... if you catch my drift ;)

Kudos, Bio!  That was great.  Post of the day!  :229031_thewave:

"Never Been Part Of Defense Like This" I have no problem with the statement other than its sounds so scripted, good lord! lol

Lol, not to mention that statement can be taken two ways.

Of course Ngata will say that, what's he going to say to a team that just handed him a paycheck..."eh, I've seen better"?...lol no he is doing the party line. He knows he is going to miss the Royal Farm's Chicken! LOL GO RAVENS!

What Ngata said is being interpreted by some as "I've never played on a Defense as good as this" ... and that is not what he said.

I wonder how good this defense could have been with Ngata here for at least this upcoming season. 7.5mil is the amount of cap space the Ravens have now and may even free up more cap space if necessary. 8.5 is the amount the Ravens saved by trading him. We could have saved 1.5 on canty and kept ngata.

I always thought the ravens fan noise at M&T, was underrated, we can get very loud. Especially when the refs make a bad call, oh you know.... BS!  I love that chant.

Nagta was just saying hat he had to, doing his job, but deep down inside he knows there's nothing like that Baltimore Defense.

When Ngata got here, there were two Hall of Famers on the defense. Are there any Hall of Famers on the Detroit defense? Well, you might say that Ndamukong Suh is a future hall of fa.... what's that?..... He's gone???? Well never mind then.

Everyone here has seen players come and go and we all know that it is in the players best interest to appreciate the new team regardless of the reason that brought them to the new city. Name one player that came to the ravens and said " yea the baltimore ravens are a good team but you wouldn't believe the team/city i just came from those guys are awesome " ? So stop being so super sensitive and give him a break . what was he supposed to do ? ask  terrell owens for interview advise?

I would think a healthy and determined Ngata is worth that kind of money - but we didn't have it under the cap and had the people to put in place of him - so I think it was the best decision to trade him. He's still a difference maker - but he was too expensive for us, and chose to seek his own interests exclusively over the team's interests... so, good luck for him up north.

Ya bio, I dont know if I would say he is worth 16 Million for 1 year but I know he is worth a decent wage. It just might be the best money saved depending on how well Jernigan plays this year. Cant wait...

No surprise from Haloti. He's starting his leadership his own way : By citing (dubious) hidden potential in his teammates.

"One who takes offense when no offense is intended is a fool, and one who takes offense when offense is intended is a greater fool." So unlike some Ravens fans, I take zero offense and wish the best for Ngata.

^ This!

After 9 years in one system, Ngata is excited about his "new" role in Detroit!  Good for him!  You can't be so hyper sensitive over his statement and assume that it was a slap in the face of his past Ravens defenses or teammates.  Smh!

He's got a new team and he's appealing to the fan base. What else was he supposed to say really? Not like he bad mouth the Ravens. Let not be so quick to burn him at the stake

Ngata is just doing the good old "political talk" for his new team. Ngata played with two GOATS at their position in Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Who on the lions are near their level on defense??!! I am waiting...That's right no one. He also played with the likes of Suggs, who is no scrub himself, and etc. Players talk that talk always with their team(s). It is what it is.

I wish Ngata could've stayed a Raven for life but it is what it is. It's a business and his salary cap number was way to high (16M). I wish he wasn't being hard headed and sign an extension here and be a Raven till he retired. :(

so nobody noticed ngata was talking about the dline and not the defense as a whole?

the players he mentioned are all dliners lol.

he seems excited to go from a 3 line men system to a 4 line men system and his primary job now consist of shooting the gap instead of taking on double teams.

most dliners would be excited for that change in role lol

I don't see Haloti filling Suh's shoes so he better pump up the rest of the D line. He'll need all the help he can get.

I really don't take offense at what he said, but after his selfish attitude about his extension negotiations I'll admit I didn't take too kindly to his words. A poster stated that, although money is the prevailing factor, friendships play a part in contract signings as well. He was talking about the Sam Koch signing and thinking it might help with Tucker's situation. Immediately, Ngata popped into my mind. Friendships, relationships, memories, and such, Obviously meant Nothing to him, as well as gratitude to an organization which had made him a Very wealthy man and the Highest paid defensive lineman with his previous contract. Sorry, but as much as I appreciated Ngata's body of work while here, I just lost respect for him because of his obvious self interest. And then I have to hear this nonsense out of his mouth. Didn't like it one bit. Not offended, just didn't like it.

What was he supposed to say? How about Nothing? And, actually, he kind of Was bad-mouthing, or disrespecting the Ravens. You read the stats pulled up in the article. He's played on some Mighty great defenses. Somehow I don't think the Lions' defense is much better, if even equal. Like one poster said, he played with Two GOAT at their positions. I can't think of One Lion defender now or ever that could compare to those two Raven defenders Ngata had the good fortune to play with. He didn't have to say what he said. It wasn't accurate anyway.

So if he says nothing, then the people in Detroit and his teammates are dissatisfied with him.   He said the answer that every person in his postion should give. Nothing more, nothing less.
