[News] Late For Work 7/9: Haloti Ngata On Lions: Never Been Part Of Defense Like This

Denver will always have a home field advantage, they could have the crappiest team in the league and still will have the advantage due to the high altitude, you can't breathe there lol

Oh really no defense like that before... So you're saying you've never played a defense with the players James Ihedigbo and Josh Bynes... Two players that we let go because their play wasn't at all spectacular... Never played a defense like Teryl Austin's before even though he was here how many years... And you played along side Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, and the list goes on and he plays with no named players now and thinks he's never played on a defense like that before... You're right.. A defense that isn't as talented. I love Teryl Austin and I bet he becomes a head coach shortly because he is a brilliant mind, but the Lions lost their best two players on the defensive line and that was what made that defense good last season. They got Ngata but he won't be as good as Suh. A bunch of unproven guys there. It can be good but I am surprised to hear anything like that come out of his mouth...

Ngata should ask the Lions fans how good the Lions are. They are always crying...year after year after year. Always the bridesmaid (most times not even a usher).....never the bride. "Talk is cheap" Ngata. Enjoy your 26 cents a year more; than you would have had here with a perennial winner.

stop getting your panties in a bunch people. ngata was a designated space eater for a majority of his time here, he only got to chase down the qb on clean up duty when the coverage held up well, he is probably just excited about playing on a defense that emphasizes individual performances of the DT's more.

he will get to play single gaps, get to penetrate, get after the qb, TFL over and over, he will be able to dominate and it will be easy to see from the untrained eye, on the ravens you wouldnt even realize his contributions unless you understood the complexities of the ravens scheme.

As much as I love Ngata at this point he is not as good as the player he is replacing. He may feel the need to get on the teams good side now because he won't contribute as much as Suh once the season starts. Oh and how can that tweet say we can't replace him with one player. Not that we are trying but he states how his snaps have gone down from 80% 4 years ago to only 50% last year. The writing was on the wall.

Ngata still felt like he was worth 16 Million dollars a year. So you just have to consider the source and not read too much into it.

Unless you're the Ravens in the playoffs, then they have no advantage. ;)

Good Luck to Ngata.... and I think he is only saying what he is supposed to say but two things; 1. I do not believe that he will play all 16 games this year and 2. I think that Timmy will end up with more sacks then Ngata and BWilliams will make the probowl while Ngata does not this season! With those two things being said... I think that the timing of letting NGata go...was perfect (typical Ozzie) and that we will stop the run better then the Lions this year!

Oh, come on, people... Are we really gonna make a fuss about Ngata saying nice things about his new team - even if they're obviously not really true? What should he say? "Yes, I loved being in Baltimore and a cornerstone of the Baltimore D which has almost always been huge, much better than you'll ever see here, in Detroit!"? See?

People say obviously false things to please their new teams and fans. We can all remember how Derrick Mason said he chose the Jets over the Ravens because "he felt there was a better cahnce of winning the Super Bowl" there? But we all knew it was meant to be for the ears of the Jets-fans. What Ngata said was meant for the Lions fans.

I would think a healthy and determined Ngata is worth that kind of money - but we didn't have it under the cap and had the people to put in place of him - so I think it was the best decision to trade him. He's still a difference maker - but he was too expensive for us, and chose to seek his own interests exclusively over the team's interests... so, good luck for him up north.

Foxboro is also a tough venue for the same reason: "less" air... if you catch my drift ;)

Notice Ngata didn't say, "This is the best defense he's ever been a part of"... And yes I expect Joe to win at least 3 more before it's over. Think about it, he SHOULD have at least 1 more already(Evans/Cundiff/and we would've smashed the Giants), we are there every yr except the yr we blew the team up, and Joe is at his best in the postseason. Not to mention Bisciotti is as big a Ravens fan as any of us and HATES to lose, along with the Wizard of Oz... The Ravens under Harbs and Joe have made the playoffs 6 out of 7 yrs and either won it all or lost to the eventual SB winner. Perennial top 2 or 3 AFC contenders every year for the last 6 of 7 yrs. As hard as it is to win a SB, I don't think it's too far fetched to say 3 more is possible for Joe.

Flacco would have more if it wasn't for Lee Evans, Anquan Boldin and TJ Houshmanzadeh.

Flacco would have zero without Boldin

Two things...

First, Ngata is probably unhappy that in the middle of negotiations he received a call saying he was traded. He even made a statement to that effect. In addition, he's not going to say that the Ravens were the best defense he played on when he has to go into the Lions locker room and meeting rooms. If the Ravens were that concerned what he would say they should have kept him. (personally, I think he has been going downhill for awhile so I supported the trade emphatically.)

second... Bisciotti is talking about more rings for Flacco. I like Joe, don't get me wrong. He wins. But most polls show the Ravens have one of the best if not the best front offices, the coaches are rated in the top three in the league, we routinely have the best run defense and overall defense in the league, especially in the red zone and they just this draft stocked up the offense. In LFW today we are listed as one of the best home field advantages as well. I would say if Flacco doesn't at least get to the super bowl this year or in the next few, the fingers have to point right back at him. Other teams with this much talent in the building and out should be doing something other than just appearing in the playoffs.

He's signed for how much? $40 million? Of course he's going to talk up the Lions. Let's see if he retires as a Raven or , if he makes the HOF which team will he chose to represent.

Ngata is just talking up his new team. Im not sweating this at all. Nobody believes Lions defense is better then Ravens historically or currently. The only thing Ngata may be excited about is that hes going to a 4-3 from 3-4, so his sack numbers will likely go up as he is on more up a strictly pass rush type Dline. So no hard feelings over here.

Ngata should stay quiet and not rile up the only fan base that cared about him. I don't understand there being any value in making a statement like that even if true. It just defies logic to me especially when he was part of perhaps the best defense Baltimore has ever fielded - 2006. What he gained from this is beyond me. What he has surely lost is pretty clear - the undying support of Ravens' fans.

I certainly can envision multiple Super Bowl wins within the next decade. If the FO can fine tune the successful drafting and signing of offensive gems as well as they have done defensively, the Ravens will emerge as a truly balanced team to be a threat for years to come. I have always loved the defensive side of the game. For the first time, I am starting to feel really confident in our offensive potential and I have high hopes that this offense is poised for greatness in the near future.

Bill Barnwell made a good argument that the 2006 Ravens were the best defense in NFL history. I remember being in a mid black out haze and crying on the Purple Patio when we lost that game to the Colts. Unfreaking real.

(scroll towards the bottom)

Our 2006 defense was amazing though.. I was at that game we lost to the colts, and was also super upset about it. Somebody on profootballtalk tried to make a point using us losing as to why the 06 defense wasn't that good, but I didn't go through the trouble of registering to respond to them. We didn't lose because of our defense, we turned the ball over deep in our own territory, and also when we got close to scoring. And only gave up field goals to peyton manning in his prime. I remember that season seeing a few minute long espn story talking about how no teams really were able to get past the 50 yard line on us. And calling the middle of our field the Baltimore triangle or something.. Man if we had a defense like that, with our offense now.. We might not lose a game!

First , I have no issues with Ngata talking up a new scheme an a new team... He cant very well talk about his old team and brag about that it wouldnt work very well for team chemistry. Second Joe wining 2-3 more is possible with Harbs Ozzie and a stout defense. Joe doesnt win it all The Entire Ravens Team does, and with a great all around team we will be back there raising more Lombardis! Lets start it with one this year...

boom.

I've got no problems with this statement and loved ngata while he was here .. But I've excepted that it was time to move on long ago , and each day that passes I'm even more ok with the trade. It's obvious he's just trying to make the best out of the situation and that he would have preferred staying in baltimore (at his price ofcourse). In a strange way I almost feel a little sorry for the guy.
