Positions that need addressing in 2016 Draft

105 posts in this topic

I dunno if the Ravens take another WR in the first, but I'd never rule it out. It all looks good on paper, but Aiken will be an RFA next year, IIRC. Brown will be in the final year of his rookie deal as well. Steve Smith Sr is likely to ride into the sunset at the end of this year. That leaves you with Perriman, Waller(if he makes it this year), Campanaro, and I guess Butler or Carter if they stick.

WR could quickly turn ugly, so I'd never rule out any position before the year begins. You never know what the season shows. WR is certainly possible in the first if we like the guy enough.

I can't see us taking a WR in the first for a while, mainly because I think this was that rare year where a WR was actually BPA (as the scouts saw it).

Well, Tyler Boyd could be there at the end of the first and he'd surely be BPA if he can keep his head on straight.

Add in the fact that we have his old WR coach this is a definite possibility

Did Engram coach him? Was Engram just here last year, then?

Boyd played as a true freshman in 2013-2014. He'll be a junior this year

"2012-13: (with University of Pittsburgh) 2013: Engram guided WR Tyler Boyd to a record-breaking freshman season...Boyd (85 catches for 1,174 yards) earned All-ACC and Freshman All-American honors while breaking freshman school receiving records previously held by Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl WR Larry Fitzgerald. 2012: In his first campaign as the Panthers’ wide receivers coach, two of Engram’s wide receivers (Mike Shanahan and Devin Street) earned All-Big East honors in the same season, the first time in school history the feat had been accomplished...Both players each tallied nearly 1,000 receiving yards (Shanahan, 62 catches for 983 yards and Street, 73 catches for 975 yards)"

Well, it was at some point. I just know that Boyd will be a beast and the Ravens would be very lucky to add him

big fan of boyd, thats the kind of receiver that stand out to me, no eye popping measurables to inflate his value, just film that shows the dude is a baller, solid size, solid speed, nothing spectacular, but great hands and ball skills and looks like he will need minimal refinement and appears to be the kinda guy who can adjust to the pros quite easily.

What if history repeats? I certainly think it's possible we could take another WR in the first. It looks like we could be a playoff team again, but let's be honest: looks can be deceiving. It's hard to say what will be BPA in a year, and even harder to predict a need.

When I said I couldn't see it happening I should have said I'd be very surprised if it did happen, which was more what I meant. It seems the WRs we like almost always get picked up before we have a shot at them, so rather than reach for another WR we usually end up with a defensive guy - which works to keep our trenches stacked. There's always the chance a WR is the BPA guy again next year, but it's happened so little that I personally wouldn't put money on it or anything, which is all I'm saying.

Yeah, the WR we like do have a tendency to always go right before our eyes. Then again, I suppose it was obvious we wanted Bryant the year the Cowboys traded ahead of us.

I think this year is a year where we may surprise other teams if we draft a WR, sorta like the Giants taking Beckham Jr.

If we are talking WR's we should of taken tyler lockett in the second round of this years draft. (seattle)

The kid is awesome in the return game and will be solid receiver. He had 103 yard kickoff return for TD and another 46 yard return last night in first action. He is also a great punt returner.

He was an easy choice. I see us lacking big time in the return game..

We never really had a chance to see our return game because every kickoff was a touchback. Hopefully, this isn't the case against the Eagles.

If by some chance the Ravens were to go WR early next year, it'd be great if they could get Mike Williams from Clemson, assuming he doesn't go before their pick. Demarcus Robinson from Florida would be good too.

You are correct and I will hold judgement. I just know this kid wouldn't of took a knee in the end zone and we missed one there that much I know.

After watching the preseason games it really looks like the Ravens will need more guys that can get to the qb.

Especially considering that Dumervil and Suggs are only getting older.

Yeah. Pass rusher is important, but OL, CB, WR, and even safety could be high needs. These are the positions I feel are the likeliest we will need to address. Some could even fix themselves.

I would LOVE for us to end up with a blue chip safety in the first unless Brooks comes back and lights it up or Kendrick Lewis goes nuts. OL for me really depends on KO and Yanda although if value is there value is there. WR and how early we should get it for me depends on what we see from Perriman this year as well as everyone else not named SSS. Pass rusher to me really depends on what is there, I wouldn't reach on it if better value is there but would be thrilled if we got a good player at the position. Too early to really tell what the needs will be at this point but we have plenty of time to figure that out.

Before We Can Pick Another Weapon We Need To Focus On Keeping Our Line Healthy An Keep Flacco Up Right We May Need To Take A Solid Look At Jack Conklin From Michigan State

Four areas of concern, in no particular order, for the 2016 draft:

Offensive Tackle

Wide Receiver / burner for KR/PR

Edge Rusher

Cornerback

Fill those positions in the first few rounds and the team will be better for it.

Guys who can fill the voids

1) DT Maliek Collins - Nebraska (this guy is really special, best part is he's a wrestler who went 48-0 in HS)

2) OLB Dadi Nicolas - Vir Tech (definition of natural pass rushing ability)

3) WR Corey Robinson - Notre Dame (6'5")

4) OLB/ILB Terrance Smith - FSU (Versatile, plays special teams but I want to see more rushing this year)

5) CB Zach Sanchez - Oklahoma (Size, ball-skills and most importantly tackling, also started across from our very own Julian Wilson)

Dline of Collins, Williams, and Jernigan is pretty scary

Wr is going to be a need again and there was no way Permian was the bpa they were filling a need

Glad you can say that confidently considering we haven't even seen him play yet...

I feel like Urschel will fill whichever guard spot opens up, so I'm not sure if OL is first round territory.  Certainly Safety.

I'd say DL/DE/OLD, CB, WR and Safety.

I think Urshel will replace zuttah, who is very average at C. By cutting Zuttah after this year we can save 2 million in cap space, which should allow us to sign both guards. I think that was the plan all along, which was why we drafted Myers.

Ozzie doesn't usually draft players if they aren't high on his board in certain rounds. If Perriman wasn't consider the bpa at the time then he wouldn't have been drafted. If you really think about it just about all teams draft the best player available because every player a team drafts out of the rest of the players available are considered that team best or favorite player to select .out of the rest.

Thoughts on taking a LT in round 1? Monroe is always injured and Hurst is good but I don't think he's starter quality. Just a guy to groom under Monroe until his contract is up then he takes over the job. Hurst is maybe trade bait?

I know its not a sexy pick but LT is arguably the most important position on the field and our starter is very good but can't be relied upon to stay healthy. If not the first then in an early round, not someone to start right away but to groom.
