Stronger Arm - Stafford or Flacco?

109 posts in this topic

nfl.com recently posted an article about building the perfect QB and they took Stafford's arm as the strongest throwing arm in the NFL... uh I'm sorry what? We have all seen video proof of Joe's arm strength (74 yds in the air in college, multiple 80 yard bombs in the NFL) so seriously where is this Stafford love coming from? I would bet good money that Joe can throw a ball further than Stafford. Is there any video proof of Stafford doing something that Joe can't do himself? Is there a secret 100 yard throw that Stafford has made that I'm unaware of. The best deep ball in the NFL, the one who can throw the furthest down the field is JOE FLACCO.

What do you guys think? Somebody explain to me this Stafford hype?

mile high miracle

end of thread

That was only our 25 to their 20 and I know I've seen Joe throw further than that. Yes that is his most famous deep ball but that isn't his limit as to how far he can throw.

Pass was about 53 yards in the air roughly. Probably not even the furthest throw of the season...

you could put on stafford college and nfl tape and see he has alot of arm power.

his issue is his touch and decision making.

their am power is close then you think.

But, also consider that he was on the move and still shuffling as he threw it. I mean, he didn't set his feet, plant, and drive. He had no base and it was pure arm, yet he still threw it 55 yards on the money. That's a really good ways to go.

Stafford, Cutler, and Joe all have cannons for an arm. Hell, even Kaepernick has a really strong arm.

Oh yeah we have all seen Joe make throws off his back foot that go 55-60 yards but how far can he really throw today and that 74 yarder in college didn't even have a tight spiral, which is very un-Joe like. Is it 80 yards? 85? If Joe got a running start at the goal line and threw at the 10 could he get it into the end zone? I really think he could. I just don't think Stafford can do that.

stafford made a living throwing off his back foot lol

cutler is ever worse with his footwork when throwing

Both have strong arms and the only way to tell is have them go up against one another. I'll give Joe the edge with deep ball strength + accuracy but I'm not gonna pretend I've watched as much Stafford as Joe.

Off topic, but if I remember correctly, is that Stafford has never beaten a team over .500 on the road in his entire career?

read this article yesterday. was agreeing with it 100% until i saw the stafford part. def threw me off. i can agree that flacco has one of the strongst arms, but what i really dont understand is why they chose stafford? dude is a solid QB and all but no idea where they got strongest arm. maybe i havent watched him enough.

flacco throws bombs left and right for sure

If we're going off of who can throw it the farthest it's probably Stafford or Cutler. In terms of who's better going deep Flacco is close with more accuracy

Stafford and Cutler are chumps. If Joe had Megatron we would have 1-2 more Super Bowls above the

one he already brought home.

Cutler has strength but a weak mind and gets rattled easily.

I think Flacco has developed more touch on his passes than either one of these goons.

Flacco has the most natural arm talent in the league, and by far the strongest arm. I've never seen a QB who can throw the ball as far as he can so effortlessly. On the run, off his back foot or with a defender draped all over him -- best arm in the league.

I've seen both players live, in person and up close. Stafford has a heck of an arm on him, I was at the game in Detroit when Megatron broke Jerry's record. That kid can zip the ball with the best of them, but he's a significant notch below Joe.

Also, it was to the sidelines, which adds about 5 yards (I did the math).

Fickle, pandering media is all.  I can;t stand those "build the best player" articles.  Complete drivel that is the male equivelent of a Cosmo piece on build the best lover.

I didn't even take into account the horizontal movement

I think any QB at this level needs to demonstrate the arm power.  Joe is world renouned for that capability.  The one guy I cannot respect for arm strength is Manziel.  Tebow never proved any thing either.

Does Stafford have endurance? He is mostly injured. Durable Joe Flacco ought to be the topic.  You can't prove you have a cannon unless you have time on the field.  I view that parameter with timing routes and a complete pass rather than how far the ball could be thrown . That Denver game proved Joes worthiness for the arm title.

I've seen Stafford make some ridiculous throws. I also think he has more velocity on his throws, but Flacco throws with much more touch and still gets it anywhere he wants on the field. It's close, but I would have to give the edge to Joe.

I like Joe for this discussion, but I have to give credit to Stafford, too. He throws some zingers, and his deep ball sometimes barely goes ten feet high and reaches the receiver in a snap.

durability def would have been another good one for the article, with flacco easily taking that one

i have no problem with this, stafford has an absolute cannon, id say in terms of raw power stafford is 1 while flacco and cutler are 2a and 2b, deep accuracy is another thing though.

joe flacco combines the 2nd strongest arm in the league with some of the best "touch" ability out there, he can perfectly drop it in the basket like hes taking a foul shot whether hes dumping a screen over a DE's head or hes dropping a 60 yard bomb over a safety, his ability to use that "3rd dimension" to place it out of defenders reach is what makes his arm better than all those mid-rank qb's.

what i think separates joe flacco though, is his ability to do all of this, while ducking and dodging pass rushers, his touch is what separates him from the typical rocket armed mid-ranked qb's, and his mobility and arm strength is what separates him from the bradys and peytons. flacco, luck, roethlisberger and rodgers are in a class of their own as the prototype complete qb, combining elite pocket presence, arm strength, accuracy, mobility, touch, size, and clutch factor, 3 of 4 of these guys have won a super bowl in the past decade and its no coincidence.

summary, stafford may be able to launch it 4 or 5 yards further, but he couldnt hold joes jockstrap if his life depended on it

better QB?  The Flacco, hands down.

For sure, but the question's about who has the stronger arm.

I remember last year, Ravens vs. steelers, at M&T. Phil Simms picked Rodgers, #1, Stafford #2, and Joe # 3, I think.

I think in "throwing quality" Aaron Rodgers is easliy 1st.  That release combined with his velocity is incredible.

Honestly the only knock on rodgers is he isn't gigantic.  Apart from that it's like Weird Science for Trent Dilfer.

Mostly injured is quite a stretch. Stafford hasn't missed a game since 2010. He's been as durable (if not more durable) than Joe the last four seasons.

Stafford's certainly had more than enough time on the field to prove how big his arm is, hence why he's in this discussion.
