Dumervil: Raven to the Super Bowl if he sets Sack Record

11 posts in this topic

While any logisttican and football fan will tell you that the tow are mutually exclusive notions, Dume said in a Bmore Sun interview, "If I can hit that number (23), that'll mean we'll be in the Super Bowl for sure".  He's 10 away from the 100 sack mark.

With Suggs on the other side commanding doubles last year it allowed Dumervil to notched 17 for 3rd in the league.  Early in 2014, both struggled and Suggs was targeted since he wass a full time player and Dumervil was a rotational pass rusher.  Suggs logged 3.5 sacks through week 8 to Dume's 7.  The back half Suggs got 8.5 to Sumes 10 and formed the best pass rushing tandem in the NFL.

Dumervil's goal of a record 23 sacks fell short by 6 geting blanked in 6 games total including the last 2 of the regular season.  At 31, he still has time to make his mark, but it's unlikely that he gets comes in under the radar like last year as teams focused more on T-Sizz.

As a fan i think the Ravens could be Super Bowl given the talent on paper today;  I also think he still has the ability to getg 23 sacks.  Will that ensure a Super Bowl?  No.  But it gets the team closer by winning the battle in thte trenches.

read this article yesterday. its great dumervil is optimistic about a super bowl if he produces, but history shows the all time sack leaders each season usually dont get their team far, let alone the playoffs. mainly because its a team with a solid defense but no offense.

but the talent we have on our offense will definitely push the envelope if our D becomes a top 5 or 10 D, which I fully expect this season. so in that case if dumervil breaks the sack record or gets close, meaning our O will be on the field more often throughout the season, then yes I fully expect us to be deep into the playoffs, if not the super bowl.

That's the beauty of the situation, if you slide protection to focus on Doom more, Sizzle will burn you. If Doom gets the record it means our defense as a whole is balling out, and we'll be dominating a lot of teams, so his statement isn't too far off.

...and the secondary appears to be improved, starters and depth.  If all Suggs and Dume can do is pressure QBs even without sacks the secondary is in a better position to make plays.  Pees will be rotating a lot of players at the LoS and the backfield this year.

I really can't wait to see how this plays out.  I've had high expectations before and was abjectly disappointed (like the Mattison era), and injuries are never predictable.  In 2012 the Ravens were the healthiest team coming into the playoffs despite a suspect defense and that, I think, was the the best indicator of our success.  I recall thinking that we're were going to win it all by the end of week 16.

Crazy thing is, its highly possible doom can achieve it. With the kind of linebackers we have, Ravens are easily one of the most feared front D in the NFL

I don't think doom will break the record. I think the pressure will be spread around to different guys. Which is not a bad thing. I don't think a sack record is a good predictor of team success. That said Doom is one of the most productive rushers league wide and I expect this years D to be a top 5 or better unit in most every defensive category so a deep playoff run is likely if the offense doesn't fall too far back

while historically that may be accurate, it really is just a coincidence.

a good offense = playing with leads = forcing obvious passing situations = more 3rd and longs = edge rushers pinning back their ears and getting to the qb with no other worries.

I think Doom can definitely hit that mark and win a ring in the process. If the Offense becomes as aggressive as I think and starts attacking teams early in games, that'll mean early leads and it'll allow the defense to just hunt. Also reports are that Pees has the defense focused on creating more turnovers, so the defense will be aggressive as well.

I know there is a big thing about Pees going to prevent or not prevent defenses too early in games, and i certainly don't want to start that here. But I've noticed in most games when the offense stays aggressive, the defense stays aggressive longer as well. So it may seem like there should be no connection, but the addition of Trestman might lead to Doom breaking the sack record.

well i think history and facts are more believable than your opinion man. but suit yourself.

I agree if Doom gets the record we are definitely in the playoffs. If Suggs can get double digits as well and our corners stay healthy we're a top 3 defense.
