[News] Marc Trestman's Unwavering Perseverance

41 posts in this topic

Ryan Mink, I think this is 1 of the most informative and well written articles you have ever posted. I learned more about Marc Trestman in this segment than all other articles I've read combined. Not only did I learn about his in-depth history as a coach but there were good insights about his character and how those experiences and failures shaped who he is today and his approach to the game. This is exactly the type of article I was hoping the writing staff could prepare in advance of vacation week. Excellent article Ryan.

Wow! Great article.

Now I am more scared than ever that we hired him. I hope he finds a home here in Baltimore. The poor man has been through so much.

Nice article, Ryan, I love the in-depth features you guys publish. Love learning new things about the guys / team. Especially in this slow season - I think I've got a handle on how the 2015 QB competition will break down lol.

Reading this I would have the opinion that Trestman will thrive here and that he may show a little loyalty (unlike his predecessor who said one day he was staying and left the next). He seems to be a guy who at this stage of his life may appreciate good pay and a good working atmosphere over taking another winger on a different organization.

Yep, I'll echo the "great article" sentiment. I appreciate the honest way it was written and the positive attitude Trestman has developed in the face of adversity. In fact, that makes him very Raven-like in philosophy. Get knocked down you learn from it, pick yourself back up, and come out swinging again (only better).

Here's to hoping he has finally found a home where he thrives long-term.

Ryan, very good, profound article. Everyone knows that it is practically impossible to write anything news worthy at this time, but you have written one of the best "story books" I have read on a Raven. Educational and inspiring when choices have to be made.

To me Kubiak leaving bothered me more than losing Smith, Ngata and McPhee.  It's still too early to tell if the offense will pickup where it left off. But from the articles and interviews that I've seen on Trestman, I think we'll be just fine.

Let's all hope that this turns out to be a great deal for him and that he stays at least a few years, Joe and the team deserve it!

Great article. Never knew much about Trestman, but this article helped out a lot. I was excited about the Trestman hiring from day one, but this article makes me even more excited. I will admit that a younger guy like Kyle Shanny was interesting but I wanted a OC that wouldn't be on the fast track to another HC job. Trestman hasn't closed the door on that, but I think it'd take the pretty situation to pull him away from Baltimore. I've always wanted Flacco to have that type of long term bond with his OC/coach like Brady, Peyton, Brees and Rodgers have had. I think Trestman can be that guy.

Also from a overall standpoint, I think that Trestman is the guy who will bring just enough aggressiveness to the offense to take us over the top as a constant top 5-10 offense. Also i hear people say that Trestman has the tough task of keeping the offense going after Kubes, but I don't see it that way. Kubes did a good job of getting our offense out of the dumps, but even though it was the best offense in franchise history, I don't think the offense was great last year. But it was definitely good enough to win a ring. Now I think Trestman will be able to patch up the few holes the offense had, llike redzone offense, 2 minute offense, and consistently getting off to quicker starts. I think Trestman is much more creative then Kubes was and I feel the offense will be much better because of it.

Sounds like a great match. At face value it looks like every team Marc has been a part of has had success only to cut him lose. Sounds like he may have been a scape goat for other problems because he didnt connect with management. Well the Ravens have a history of standing by their people. Sometimes for too long. Hopefully we can give Marc the stability he desires and he can give us a top 10 offense.

If Marc is successful here I just hope he rather stay as a coordinator than a head coach again. I'm getting tired of the revolving door of coordinators. I guess that's what comes with being a successful organization year in and year out.

Thanks for this Ryan.

We know players are Ravens when we watch the passion and aggression they approach the game with. But this is one of the rare times where we can look at a guys life, the immense amount of rejection, let downs, scapegoating etc, and his ability to keep getting back up - where we can say that a COACH is a Raven.

The coach who no one is committed to, on a team that no one has honestly ever respected? Yeah... sounds like Raven to me.

Go coach like a Raven!

I hope Marc Trestman truly sees what John Harbaugh, Ozzie Newsome, and Steve Bisciotti have built here and stays a while. Maybe he has reached a point where he can resist the urge to "prove" himself as a head coach.

Do we tend to loose our coordinators because the rest of the NFL does not see John as having offensive and defensive coaching strengths of his own?

This is my first post in quite a while (took a long break). I personally liked the hiring of Trestman before reading this excellent article. I like him even more after reading his story, and I like what he has accomplished this off-season working with our offensive. I am super excited for what we will accomplish this year on offense, and can't wait for the season to start!

Marc, I gather it's very hard for intelligent people to listen, because they interpret information so quickly. Congratulations, you're one of the very few.

This article is exceptional. How many of us would go through  the rigors of becoming a lawyer and stepping off to be a low level coach.  He was with 10 teams and got fired 8 times.  He must like abuse.  I really like what he did in SF and the first Bears year.  Dealing with Brandon Marshall was ridicuous . In the end Marshall was diagnosed with a personality disorder.  At least Trest has a great football home here in BAL

Marc sounds like a players coach. If the offense improves from last year, watch out. I just hope he can stick around for a couple of years instead of one and done.

I think that Trestman has seen and been through so much that he will feel like Baltimore is his home. He don't have to worry about all the stress of being a head coach he can sit back and worry about the offense only. I think we have found our offensive coordinator of the future.

We have great ownership and good people working for the Ravens. I think this could be a great relationship and the start of something big. I have high hopes that Trestman will bring out the the very best of Joe. Joe really gets no respect for all that he has accomplished but I sense a maturity about him this year. He has some weapons this year and I think we are going to light it up. Can't wait to see it. We will shock the world and shut the pundits up once and for all.

Like everyone else here I'd love to see a long-haul OC for all the obvious reasons, and Marc could be our guy. If there is one organisation in this sport that is free of political BS, infighting, backstabbing and egomania, it is ours, so hopefully he can find a home here and rest his family's feet a little.  Welcome home Marc (hopefully).

Also, great article Ryan

Great article, Mr. Mink! Really good, mature writing. Good job!

As for Trestman, I personally am excited to see what he can do, yet at the same time a bit nervous due to his instability in the past. The reason why he has had dozens of teams in his life are different, but some must have something to do with the person himself and those weren't brought up here. Will be a fun year to watch anyway.

Go Ravens!

Nice job Ryan! As Marc continues to grow as a coach, "social" person and now being part of the Raven's family, it will be interesting to see where this goes. I have no doubt the pieces are in place for him to be successful on the field. If he truly can get comfortable with his new family and home and the players warm up to him, the sky is the limit.

All parties are taking some risk here. Let's hope the rewards are worth it.

Excellent  article.  I wanted Marc Trestman before the end of the season, because I thought we would lose Kubiak to a head coaching job.  This article puts it all into perspective.  Great job!

Great article but one hopes that the team is getting more than Kubiak lite. There's only one real deal and if he just tries to emulate him it will be difficult.
