Definitely a fan of the Thompson pick. He's turned into a very good defensive player, has well above-average length for the position, and is a obviously a top tier shooter.

Don't mind the Horford selection. He's a versatile, solid big man, as he demonstrated that throughout this past year. I also like the Thompson selection. Gasol and Thompson is a nice start.

I think Thompson developing into a two way player is what made me take him

The fact that he can defend as well as stretch the floor made me give him slight consideration despite being honed in on my selections. I believe that it always helps to start teams off with players who are capable on both sides of the floor. It allows you the flexibility to consider offensive minded players with defensive deficiencies in the future. You've got two terrific defenders in Thompson and Gasol.

One of the biggest things for me is how well the players can distribute the ball and from everything I've been reading, Klay has come along way with his passing and Gasol can pretty much pass from anywhere in the post, so that really drew me to them.

Can't blame you there at all. I had a different player altogether slotted next to George but I was very much enticed by the opportunity to see that duo in the small ball line up, especially with how effective Leonard has been at PF.

I also saw Larry Bird was talking about replicating the small ball trend by putting George at the 4. The league seems to be trending towards versatile players these days, and that was part of why I went with Horford here too.

I've seen the same reports, and I agree with the sentiment 100%. It's almost like they're playing position-less line ups at times. Good call there.

Slightly too high for Horford given who is on the board IMO, but I could never argue with taking a center that can produce on the offensive end.

Like the Thompson pick.

There may not be a moderator available until the morning, but I feel that we should be able to continue given that we know the selection. Just skip one number in the format.

Is Carmelo Anthony Lama's pick?

Who wants my board?

Sure, though it's hard to say how much value I'll be come tomorrow morning.

I accidentally deleted my post, but I don't agree at all. Blake is capable of taking his game to another level that Cousins has never shown. Last playoffs is a great example. He basically averaged a triple double for a 4 game stretch.

I'm not going to side with either argument because I think it's an unknown until we see whether or not Cousins' game would skyrocket when paired with an All-Star playmaker. However, I want to say this paragraph is certainly in line with what I'm currently thinking about Blake. He's been an All-Star and more than solid performer for a while, but this playoffs was an absolute step up to a new level of superstar for him in my eyes. He was amazing, especially against SA. I just hope he doesn't fall into a situation where he becomes the next Carmelo or McGrady or even Chris Paul when something just prevents him from lifting his team to any meaningful stage of the postseason. That total team collapse against Houston was brutal, and their performance in postseason play this year will mean a lot to the legacies of the players on that team.

Which is why we suggested that newbies pre-join and complete the approval process before the game began.

Yes, and your words didn't fall on deaf ears or were consciously ignored. Both of two newcomers were asked to create their accounts before the beginning of the draft. One did and the other forgot to in what was an honest mistake; he mentioned this in one of his first posts.

Great pick in Irving by the way. He was initially my No.1 target for the first round until I had a last minute change of heart.

A little over two hours before skip time. I'd be willing to bet money that the pick would be between two certain former draftees.

I'm interested to see who goes in these next 5 picks before I'm up.

You have a point with DeAndre's impact on rebounding, but Sacramento was actually the better rebounding team and had more total rebounding competition for Cousins.

Here's a look at some defensive stats and total efficiency stats. Green is the better player in each stat, red is the worse player.

Demarcus Cousins:

Blocks Per Game: 1.7

Blocks Per 100 Possessions: 2.6

Block % - 4.0

Steals: 1.5

Steals Per 100 Possessions: 2.3

Defensive Win Shares - 3.4

Defensive RTG - 101

Opponents FG% - 44

Opponents eFG% - 46

Opponents' FG% At Rim - 50

Defensive Adjusted Plus/Minus - 3.3

Defensive Rebound %: 30.6

Total Rebound %: 21.1

PER: 25.2

Value Above Replacement: 3.4

Blake Griffin:

Blocks Per Game: .5

Blocks Per 100 Possessions: .8

Block % - 1.2

Steals: .9

Steals Per 100 Possessions: 1.4

Defensive Win Shares - 2.4

Defensive RTG - 106

Opponents FG% - 45

Opponents eFG% - 50

Opponents' FG% At Rim - 58

Defensive Adjusted Plus/Minus - 1.0

Defensive Rebound %: 17.9

Total Rebound %: 12.1

PER: 22.8

Value Above Replacement: 3.6

I think pointing to total win shares is pretty misleading when you factor in the difference in their team's records and look at the difference in defensive production and efficiency.

How is win shares misleading when it looks at the entire package and puts a label on the contribution of the player? Cousins is a marginally better defensive player and Blake is a better all around offensive player. Value above replacement also points to Blake as the superior talent, so I'm not sure what the argument is.

Win shares takes into account team performance. Look at the math behind it. If you can look at that post and say you're not sure what the argument is then I think we should leave it at that. Blake is a phenomenal offensive talent, but Cousins is the better all around player.

The numbers don't back-up that assessment. In fact, if your team is below average in terms of scoring it actually benefits an individual player in the win shares formula because his contribution is greater.

Nice pick in Jimmy Buckets. One of the better two way players in the league and has room to grow. Didn't think he was going to, but I wanted him to fall to me.
