2015 Draft a Franchise (NBA): Discussion Thread

Damnit. I did your review BmoreBird.. But it didn't work. I give your team a B. The depth isn't as good as it should be honestly. The starting lineup will allow you to win some games. But Outside of Diaw and Knight your bench doesn't overy imppress me.

Anyone mind doing a breakdown of my team? Would be appreciated.. I know I promised some other people an analysis that I haven't gotten to

Quote

PG: Mike Conley // Tyreke Evans // Shaun Livingston

SG: James Harden // Eric Gordon // Kelly Oubre Jr.

SF: DeMar Derozan // Paul Pierce // Wilson Chandler

PF: Draymond Green // Josh Smith // Ed Davis

C: Marcin Gortat // Omer Asik // Brandon Wright

The Good: Love the starting lineup, tremendous fit defensively and for the most part on offense. I think the bench is an awesome lineup of its own. Tons of depth at PG, SF and C. Potentially nice depth at the other positions as well. Excellent defense throughout. Rebounders at all positions.

The Bad:  Not sure how well Derozan will play off ball, not a lot of room to improve outside of Oubre and Davis (to an extent). Injury concerns at a number of positions.

Really really like this team

Thank you Translation and BaltimoreFlacco, I appreciate it. When I was on the clock at various points, I realized I had the option to take a player who could play multiple positions. I think I can mix and match. I wouldn't mind having DeMar come off the bench to be honest, he doesn't necessarily need to start. I agree with your "potential" grade Flacco. Outside of Oubre, Davis (to an extent), and I'll throw Draymond in there because he's young, I didn't draft many "young" guys. More guys in their primes and veterans.

I'm happy you guys think my players will fit well together and play well together, because I envision the same.

I agree that I don't have much of a post game. Gortat is still pretty solid offensively, and I like Davis and Wright in pick and roll situations. I can throw lobs to them. Outside of that, not too much.

I like my bench as well, as I feel like I have pretty good depth. I'm happy that my team is pretty lengthy for the most part. You look at the Warriors and their length disrupted teams. Even though it's a minor detail in their recent success, I've heard analysts talk about if.

Anyways, I appreciate the grading. I like both of your guys' team, and I'm glad you liked mine.

I know someone graded your team BaltimoreFlacco, and I would give yours an A as well.

Just checking in to see how it wrapped up. Only did a quick glance at the rosters, but you appear to be the only one with two Sixers, and in true Sixer fashion, one is injured and unlikely to play this season. You also picked the two players the Sixers wanted desperately in the last two draft (stupid lottery). So, by those factors alone, I deem you the winner. Congrats.

You know you wanna look over those Dunkey Kongs.

Calvinsmoke:

C - Nikola Vucevic, Roy Hibbert

F - Dirk Nowitzki, Amir Johnson

F - Rudy Gay, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

G - Wesley Matthews, Joe Johnson, Jamal Crawford

G - John Wall, Deron Williams, Jeremy Lin

The Good: Excellent offense, can score from anyway. Nice bench, especially defensively. Good size at all positions. Nice spacing. Good perimeter defense. Great depth at every position for 12 man team. Nice rebounding wings and guards.

The Bad: A lot of high USG guys, only one ball to go around. Very old team, lack of prospects. Lack of athleticism. Not the best rebounding front court outside of Vuc. Defense is a major issue with Dirk and Vuc sharing the front court.

Offense: A+

Defense: B+

Rebounding: A-

Depth: A

Fit: A-

Potential Improvement: C+

Overall: A-

The good: Solid front court defense. Good spacing, yet excellent low post threats. In theory, like the combination of Parker and Afflalo, as Parker can draw doubles and AA would be the beneficiary. Nice prospects in Hezonja and Parker. Nice fire power with guards off of bench. Good potential for small ball lineups. Decent overall depth.

The Bad: Concerned with AA's poor shooting year. No true rim protector. Skeptical Lillard can take the next step to true superstardom. Lack of defense off of bench, outside of Ariza. Don't like Fournier as the backup 2, but you have other options. Lack of toughness. Will Parker be 100%?

Offense: A

Defense: B+

Rebounding: A-

Depth: B+

Fit: A-

Potential Improvement: A

Overall: A-

Edit: I'd reorder your depth chart:

I forgot to thank you for those insights. When I picked Horford and Lillard I decided to focus the squad on three-point shooting, which I feel like I've done. I definitely hear you about the depth chart, and I actually had a few different combinations in mind.

Horford and Jones are supposed to be 5/4s and Stoudemire's a 4/5 so there can be a good degree of mixing things up depending on if I need post scoring, defensive focus (Adams and Favors), ridiculous floor spacing (Horford and Anderson/Parker) or anything like that. Williams I took more as a 1/2 who can play both spots, but would mostly shift to PG in a pinch. Fournier was a bit of a homer pick, but I love what I think he'd offer as a 2/3, and ideally Hezonja would be a 3/2 long-term. So there's a lot of flexibility there and a traditional depth chart is probably a bit rigid to show that.

Thanks again for the input though. It's always nice to hear some constructive opinions.

Just went over my roster from last year as well and I feel this year I drafted a lot better - and at more or less the same position (I was totally going to land Demarcus Cousins when I was initially picking sixth :( ). This year's roster is better geared for scoring and is more adaptable, and far better placed to win now (which actually might be a bad thing considering I'm lacking a true star for now, but hey).

More than anything though, I was surprised Steven Adams was the only player who made both of my roster. The other homer picks I would have targeted just didn't fall the right way, with Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton going slightly before I would have taken them and with James Ennis being a bit meh. Reggie Jackson was my other big target from that year's roster, so congrats to whoever got him.

thanks man, I tried to make up for my lack of defense with my bench players and versatility but you nailed it. I lack athletes and potential. *salute

Looking back, I'd have come into the season with Kemba Walker, Dwayne Wade, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and Hassan Whiteside as my starters. Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, Tim Duncan and Darren Collison would come off the bench among others. The group could be even better if Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Jusuf Nurkic build on their promise. I'm admittedly pretty excited about the results of my team.

Well I think your team is bad.

lol I got a good chuckle out of that one. If it helps, it took me some time to seriously get into the sport. Always seems a bit overwhelming to delve into a seemingly endless amount of information.

Only if it wraps up before Ravens Training Camp opens.

Just curious, why does it matter if it wraps up before then?

They started around this time last year, and finished before when training camp for us is supposed to begin. I have no doubts we should be okay.

If you can keep the time between picks to a minimum and wrap up by the time training camp opens, go ahead. Please remember this is a Ravens forum, so we don't want to devote a lot of resources to something that is totally not even football related. Please use the fewest possible threads.

Thanks.

Bosh's situation hurt, and Gallo + Jah got injured, but I think my team was pretty dominant:

Ron Arrest: Paul Millsap

Ron Artest: Joakim Noah

Bench

Ron Artest: D'Angelo Russell

Ron Artest: Kevin Martin

Ron Artest: Matt Barnes

Not Ron Artest: Enes Kanter

Ron Artest: Andrew Bogut

Ron Artest: Dante Exum

Not Ron Artest: Zach Lavine

Ron Artest: Luc Richard Mbah A Moute

Ron Artest: Nene

Greg Oden: Joel Embiid

Last season we would have sucked. This year with Embiid actually being a beast, and Lavine, and Russell developing into good players, and Wiggins turning into a star with no huge dropoff from anyone(except for Noah). The team becomes a hell of a lot better. With Chris Paul running the show, this team becomes dangerous.
