2015 Draft a Franchise (NBA): Discussion Thread

Always sucks to lose Gordon. Aside from Mario (who's got the added bonus of being "my" guy pre-draft), he's the guy on the Magic roster I'm most excited about. He's got huge upside, heaps of time to reach it and he absolutely wrecked the Summer League this year. He should be in for a good year.

He's looked really good in summer league so far. Hit 50% of his threes and stuff. All those reports about him working very hard in the summer on his shot might not have been bunk lol

He's worked a lot on his shot even during the past season, but taking it slow while recovering from a foot injury means the improvements haven't shown up as much as he'd like until now.

And Reggie was my next guy. These past rounds have been really depressing.

Unless you had a pick to make up, you may have just picked out of turn.

I was up, right? Didn't take my guy, either way, but just want to make sure

Like the Barnes pick. He plays a nice role on a great team, and I believe he could have an expanded role on many NBA teams. It's hard for him to stand out in Golden State, but a solid, young player nonetheless

Since Everyone is doing it fine...

Current Roster Evaluation

PG: Chris Paul, D'Angelo Russel

SG: Bradley Beal

SF: Andrew Wiggins

PF: Paul Millsap Enes Kanter

C: Joakim Noah, Andrew Bogut, Enes Kanter

Chris Paul is running the show which is always a good thing. Yes, I only have one true three point threat at the moment in Beal. But he can shoot it. He needs to work on his mid range game. Wiggins is a potential superstar and is good at slashing and cutitng to the basket. Millsap can score from anywhere on the court. Noah is a great player on defense. He helps my offense with his passing ability for a big man. My offense is below average on offense but we play good defense. The weak link on my defense is Bradley Beal, who is by no means bad.

As for my bench. Russell is a risky one. He could be a bust but he's more than likely to develop into a solid scorer who will be a good passer and defender. Enes can score. But not play defense. Bogut can play defense but not offense. Both are excellent rebounders and Bogut is a good screener.

Millsap, Noah, Bogut and Kanter will make my team a force on the glass.

Overall, my team is rock solid across the board.

Brief Assessment:

Your front court is looking strong with Millsap, Noah, Kanter, and Bogut. I like the way those games counteract with each other - example: Bogut a great defender, while Kanter is a defensive liability but is solid on offense.

Paul, Beal, Wiggins, with Russell off the bench (so far), has its strengths. CP3 is one of the best floor generals in the NBA, Beal can score and will improve, Wiggins is already a great defender and his offensive game has a lot of promise. Russell is a long term investment, but will still put up numbers in his rookie year.

Overall, I like your team. All your players are guys who I targeted on my big board at some point during this draft. You have nice flexibility to finish out the rest of your roster.

Is Stanley Johnson actually really good or is the summer league a fluke? I know it's the summer league, but he's been on fire

I guess people don't know how good Gorgui Dieng has been for Minnesota.

Dieng is a good player. I drafted him late in last years draft. He still has a lot of upside and could fit real nice next to Towns

He's not a great player, but he has an above average offensive game and blocks shots. He passes pretty well for a big too.

It's hard to say, since with rookies you never really know what you're getting until you've got it. But it sounds like Johnson's been doing it all for Detroit so far, and doing it well. And one thing we know for sure is that the Pistons took Johnson over [name retracted for fear of Truth's wrath], who had been considered a consensus top-five guy and even a dark horse for the #1 pick, which should tell you how high they were on Johnson (as well as a few things about the other guy, but I digress).

Nice pick with Lou Williams

Cheers, good to have a decent scorer off the bench who can also play a bit of the point. I think my identity as a three-point shooting team should be pretty well solidified by now. Got one hell of a bomb squad in the works.

I'm pleased to have landed Collison at this point since I've been considering him for some time now. He saw career highs across the board in his most expansive role to do date, was a pest on the defensive end and was a consistent threat from all areas of the floor. He's a solid, underrated starter in my book. With Kemba Walker's shooting woes, I'm glad to have come away with two PGs in Collison and Tony Parker who were among the most efficient scorers at their position.

I wasn't sure where to draft Jusuf Nurkic, but I figured I'd take my chances at this point. He's somewhat unpolished despite some impressive footwork in the low post and a relatively fluid stroke, but Nurkic showed massive upside on the defensive end. Denver's defensive stats plummeted without him in the line up. They went from having one of if not the worst defensive rating with Nurkic on the bench to having one of the best ratings with him on the floor. Not to mention that the FG% of those he defended drastically decreased on every part of the court. Couple that with his terrific rebounding percentage and you have a player who looks to be Denver's center of the future. Between Nurkic, Tim Duncan and Hassan Whiteside, I feel confident in my defense in the paint.

He said he felt confident he could play the one through four, so I'm going to have him as a backup SG and have him sub in at SF at times, but from what I've read, he's just been shooting an insane percentage and he's been dominant defensively. I mean, I really know nothing about the NBA draft (can't even tell you who the prospects are in most years), but I've just been reading about how he's been so dominant. Worth a chance

Am I up I can't tell lol

Truth's hombre, Lama, is up. You're on deck. The order's been a bit of a cluster[use your imagination] this year, so you can see why up until now I've been using the big board for pick number referencing. Forget keeping track of this mess.

I see, thanks.

Yea feels like poor Truth is having to pick for eight different teams, my mind goes blank soon as I see him post like eight in a row, like it doesn't even want to contemplate trying to figure out where we are

I definitely appreciate the appreciation. I'm just looking to do what I can to maintain the activity level since we already have a few members on autoskip. I've reached out to Ed_Reed20 and he's all caught up. I've also reached out to Lama a while back and I will likely post his selection on his behalf as soon as he checks in. I know it definitely looks confusing with all of my posts in the thread. Perhaps it'll be easier to tell if I post "On behalf of (Member's name)..." before the selection. We're on Lama's selection at this point, so Sons_of_Eli is on deck.

I was going to suggest earlier in the draft if you could specifically name the team you were drafting for, just so I could keep up with their roster, but it's all good now

I've posted their team names in bold, but I doubt everyone remembers each others' team names so I'm with you there. I'll add in the name as well.

Always liked Lee's game so I like the pick. Nothing flashy. Solid defense and very good perimeter shooting make for a fine role player.
