2015 Draft a Franchise (NBA): Discussion Thread

1,076 posts in this topic

I like how my team compliments itself. Sure I don't have an elite scorer or anything(at the moment. Who knows how Wiggins will pan out). But Paul is running the show and Beal is a good shooter. Wiggins can cut to the basket and use his elite athleticism. Millsap can score from anywhere.

Noah won't do much on offense besides set screens and distribute. Which is good.

Wiggins isn't an elite defender yet but he's already good and the tools are there. And Beal is only average defensively. Other than that. My lineup is pretty good in that department defensively.

Wth Paul running the show we can run with anyone.

Thought Kobe would fall to me. O well all our teams are stacked lmao

It's amazing. These starting Lineups in today's NBA would be hilarious to watch.

Inqui is. I got my pick in just before this

I know. I quoted his post right after you posted the pick.

The pick numbers look like we're running them through a random number generator. My second pick will be up shortly.

I'm literally looking at the pick in front of me and adding one

I thought about Tim Duncan, but he's 39 and I didn't realize he was that old. He's certainly not playing that way, but sooner or later, time is just going to cut it short for him and so I settled on Sullinger who is 16 years younger and seems to be improving his game

I did the same thing until I noticed that a few members were going off the big board, which isn't the proper method. Technically when a member is skipped, the member behind them takes over the original number of their selection. I cite the Minnesota gaffe in the 2003 Draft as an example. They were initially slotted to pick with the 7th overall selection but were skipped by Jacksonville and Carolina. The selections went in the books in that order, which is why Byron Leftwich is listed as the 7th overall selection and not the 8th. That's how we've went about it in years prior as well.

I'm a fan of Sullinger. He needs to control his weight and conditioning but I selected him with one of my last selections a few years ago and was thrilled to have him at that point. Tim Duncan is likely a one-year rental but I couldn't pass up on the value given how terrific he was on both ends of the floor. My regular starting line up involved starting Kawhi Leonard at the four, which would work perfectly with a small ball line up, but I still wanted a quality big for the traditional look. I was admittedly jelly of the defensive prowess of Challenge Accepted's front court. With how outstanding Duncan was defensively last year, the trio of Leonard, Duncan and Whiteside shouldn't be far behind. I'd also have the capability of throwing out a tall line up with Duncan at the four and Wade at the one.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Duncan play for more than one year. Didn't he just get an extension? Not sure how long, but I was shocked he's 39 because he plays like he's 5 years younger and wants to play another 5 years, but I just couldn't take the risk

I like the Duncan pick. He was All Defensive 2nd team last year and All NBA Third Team. Even if he has only 1 year left, 2 years max, he's still a good player and a guy you want on your team.

I also like the Ariza pick, he's a good glue guy to have. I think he was an underrated part of the Rockets success this past year.

Same here. I'm not sure that they've come to official terms but I doubt it'd be a one-year deal, even if he only plays one year. Agreed on all accounts. I wouldn't necessarily call it a risk given that we're all aware that he's in the home stretch. I just felt that I could stand to sacrifice longevity for present quality since he's technically my 6th man. Very good pick in Knight by the way. He was one of the players I almost went with instead of Walker. The only reason I passed on Knight was because of his issues on defense, particularly his footwork when shadowing the ball-handler. He was more efficient as a shooter however and has experience at both Guard spots. Good find.

Didn't Noah go in the 1st round either last year or the year before? I feel like he did.

Most likely, he was coming off his DPOY season, but he followed it up with an injury riddled season where he was very ineffective.

Thank you. If it counts for anything, the fact that he was 3rd in defensive win shares at his age was impressive. He's still a very good rebounder so if I'm having issues on the boards, I'd have Duncan and Whiteside at the four and five and then George and Leonard at the two and three, who are among the best rebounding wings. Thank you for the vote of confidence.

Like the Duncan, Knight, Walker and Ariza picks.

Not a huge fan of Afflalo or Sullinger at this point

Thank you kindly.

Kicking myself hard for not drafting Noah. One of my favorite active players.

I like Noah, and when healthy he is a top defensive center with great passing ability. I decided that the Polish Hammer was a better fit for my team. I like his offensive game, as him and Wall really have great chemistry. I think he could build the same chemistry with Conley and Harden. Also, his toughness is a factor I like. Noah has similar toughness and energy that Gortat brings, for sure. Wizards are my team, though, so I am slightly biased. Gortat has the ability to score 20 and grab 10 boards, as well as force some turnovers with his blocks and occasional steals. Noah definitely has an edge in facilitating/passing and defense, and Gortat has a slight edge as an "all-around" center. Still, I think they are very similarly ranked as far as centers go, as they both have game.

Yeah, it's like that all-time draft we did last year.
