Dennis Pitta

I could see Pitta willing to renegotiate his contract and convert his salary to incentive bonus based on playing time and certain production milestones in order to stick around next year... as opposed to getting cut and testing FA if he does want to come back.

There's no point in keeping him. He's done. Besides, we have three extremely young and budding TE's who we would be fools to cut or send to the practice squad for a 30 year old with injury problems. It's time to move on.

I'd like to see the per play money he got from us. What a terrible contract that was for the Ravens. He played what? 4 games and got at least 16 million?! Good business move by Pitta.

Not sure what his cap hits are for the rest of his contract, but his dead money is insane.

2016: $6.6 million

2017: $4.4 million

2018: $2.2 million

I will always be grateful to Pitta for his vital part in the SB run, and I'm happy he was able to make some money before his career ended.

That being said though, I think it's time to call it a career sadly.

2018 doesn't matter.

They will either take the full cap hit of $6.6 in 2016

or split it between 16/17. and have 16 take a $2.2 million hit and push $4.4 into 17.

Personally I would rather just eat it all and take the 2016 hit.

Sad. His future with Joe looked so promising. I'm glad he got paid, for him at least. Wouldn't be surprised to see him stay around and I hope he does....Couldn't of done 2012 without him. What sucks is I feel like he would've been a shoe in for ring of honor one day had he stayed healthy.

Well, on to the next Great White Tights....Fortunately extremely deep at the position.

We need to call AMEX to order a replacement. I think Gillmore will be our replacement card.

According to CBS, doctors told Pitta it was not safe to EVER play football again. If that is the case, can definitely see the Ravens cutting him during the off season.

What Harbaugh said seems to differ from that. He just said The doctors don't believe it is in the best interest for  Pitta to play this season . I think it may  be possible that he may need more rehab  to get his hip stronger but it might be over for him career wise.

Hate to read that Doctors are advising him to retire. Still really hoping and praying that he can make a return, he just reeks of the loudness that was his big impact on our XLVII win, and he's Flaccos best bud.

Ravens drafted 3 tight ends after his 2nd hip fracture.

Shows how they'd already decided to move on.

Only kept him this long because of his cap hit.

That and what he means to the fans, team and Joe.

So, they wanted to still give him a chance, but they knew.

To be clear, the total dead money is $6.6M.  Those numbers listed are the dead money that would apply if released in each of those years.

This is the decision the team will need to make.

You can keep 4 TE's. Especially if you don't have more than 3-4 WR's that deserve to see the field. And if we lose SSS even if we sign a good FA it's hard to see us have more than that available.

I'd take Pitta over Marlon Brown and likely Camp, Butler, or Waller.

might be true for now but  don´t think that pitta will ever contribute again. He was somehow a fan favorite because of one good year. similar to webb. nothing special afterwards but injuries. don´t get me wrong. I like him a lot. but he was already 26 coming into the league or something like that and he is above 30 now with 2 major injuries that will limit hymn for the rest of his live.

If he would be a true addition to this team coming back would tell you more about the quality we have right now...

As much as i like pitta i agree as well.  Especially when i look at Crocket and see his production.

Pitta

2012- 670 yards and 7 TDS

This was obviously his best year, which was his second year and was showing big potential

Crocket-

2015- 6 games 240 yards and 3 TDS.  so if you do the average and if he played the full season, he would be about 30 yards shy of Pitta's one good year, but would average out to 1 more TD.

I honestly think a lot of the love comes from the SB run and just the magic that surrounded the year.  No doubt he made plays for us and looked like he would be apart of our future.  But in reality, i think Gilmore can give us the same type of production....and actually see the field.

Agreed. I like Pitta but some fans act like we lost Gronk.

Pitta's contract was ridiculous for many reasons.

should never have got it at the time with that injury. Many of us, myself included hated it, and the rice one.

Definitely not Gronk, but I do miss the chemistry he had with Flacco.
