Dennis Pitta

It would be hard for me to see him not come back at this point. Considering the Ravens have been holding on hope this long, there must be a minimal chance that he could recover from this and continue on with his football career.

...realistically though, how does one dislocate both hips so easily and consider coming back to play in the NFL..? I mean that last one was just freaky where he caught the flat route and fell over untouched. Hopefully they know something we don't which is most often the case anyway.

I thought it was the same hip both times. Was it both or the same one? Or is that a mistake on your part?

It was the same hip.

Baltimore Sun, September 21, 2014

CLEVELAND -- Ravens starting tight end Dennis Pitta was carted off the field Sunday after suffering a potential season-ending hip injury without even being touched.

Pitta dislocated his right hip for the second time in just more than a year, and it’s feared that he may have also sustained a fracture. But an initial diagnosis revealed no fracture, according to sources. If Pitta’s hip is fractured, he would need surgery and likely would be out for the season. Pitta remained in Cleveland overnight at a local hospital.

Pitta fractured and dislocated his hip during training camp last year and missed all but the final four games of the 2013 regular season after making a full recovery. He signed a five-year, $32 million contract in March that included $16 million guaranteed.

Well I'm a little more optimistic now. I thought it was both. Looking back I only read of one specifically.

Thanks

"according to Harbaugh, the defense has had a hard time covering Pitta in practice these last few weeks"

And he's still using crutches!

Hilarious. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I don't know if I should be excited....or straight up disappointed in our defense.

You know Pees defensive system is broke when a player still using crutches is hard to cover.

Just in case of gullible readers: Pitta is NOT still on crutches.

We're going to revolutionize the league and run 14 personnel groupings. All TE's, inside & out, RB/Juice...

Gillmore, Pitta, Boyle, Williams

Defenses won't know what to do hahaha

Sadly all of our backs and tight ends are better than our wide receivers, might as well do it lol

If they came out in 14, it wouldn't surprise me a bit. I am actually expecting to see some 23 in short yardage situations. We will have every type of play available to us with the talent we have, as opposed to being stuck with half a route tree for each WR.

Pitta basically hasn't played since SB year.   It time.   Ravens are not going to wait 'a la chris cooley style' until he reaps all the money till he retires.

We NEED him.  We need experience weapons that can PRODUCE!  Get on the field pitta.

GIlmore hasn't done really anything since Oakland game.   I think folks pretty much figured him out.

LAUGH OUT LOUD! This should be a post in our defensive room or on a placard around Pees' neck when he coaches!

@jeffzrebiecsun: At this pt, the doctors have advised Pitta that it's not safe to play. Ravens officials with doctors in this case. But Pitta wants to play

Well can the Ravens allow him on the field if the doctors say no,including the Ravens doctors?

The use of "advised" kind of alludes to Pitta being able to make a determination. They aren't telling him that he can't, rather that they don't think he should. If doctors are against it though, I imagine Pitta will be responsible.

I hope for his sake that he takes what they say to heart. I know the desire is strong, but long term health is more important in my mind. I'll respect his decision either way.

@jeffzrebiecsun: I said Pitta will stay on PUP for the rest of the year. More appropriate to say that he'll revert to IR. Either way, won't play in 2015.

Pretty much what was expected as soon as he went down the second time.  I think if he and Flacco weren't best friends he would have retired long ago.

Wow sucks for Pitta cause I know he wanted to play real bad this season but maybe his hip  can get stronger with more rehab next season.
