Surprise this hasn't been posted yet. Pitta hints at retirement if he can't play this year.

"I would like to think that if I can't make it back this year, what's going to change next year?" Pitta said. "For me, in my mind, I'm working to get back this year. If I can't, that might be it."

Good to see Pitta back at practice but I really think that he is done.  Those hip injuries and replacements aren't a joke.

My thoughts exactly. For his sake, I wish he retires.

I think he retires. I've said this earlier this year but a mutual friend told me that the old lady doesn't want him playing anymore. Maybe she's softened up on that but that was the last I heard.

I'd retire if I were Pitta, have money and a ring. That hip is not something to play with and I am sure it will be hard enough for him as he gets older.

So what's the scoop?  Doesn't Dennis have to decide soon?

Hopefully we have an article come out about him. I'm sure we will.

I feel the same way.

I think he has to decide by the end of the week if he's gonna play or not.

He might have a decision to make, but so does the team. Even if he says "yes" the team may feel otherwise. Right now we're "ok" at tight end and don't have an open roster spot.

I'd be okay with dropping a WR (coughMarlonBrowncough) and running tons of 2 TE sets. Id guess you could also drop someone like De'Ondre Wesley.

This is what I'm thinking, too. No way we cut any of our other TEs, and I don't know if we have the luxury of keeping four with all of our other needs.

This would be a great decision. Since being traded for, Givens has out performed Marlon, Aiken has out performed him, Gilmore and Boyle have done the same. Marlon is a RFA next year and doesn't deserve the RFA tender to be here another year. Go into a lot more 2 TE sets as you said, and mix it up. Pitta/Gilmore, Williams/Boyle, Pitta/Boyle, Pitta/Williams, Williams/Gilmore. Just mix it up so defenses have to prepare for 4 different TEs and and each drive they don't know which 2 TEs will be on the field.

I hope we don't drop De'Ondre. :(

Brown had one great significant play that I can remember...that back of the endzone TD pass from Flacco against the Vikings in the snow at M&T.  Awesome catch!

I expected more from Brown.  Thought he'd be a great tall target for Joe and a good receiver for us.  Not so!

sucks to say it but I'm with you. Never thought I'd be sayin it. Unless he comes back and lights it up , he's more of a liability. sad reality. I'd be more than happy if we decided to keep 4, but that's something I believe we've never done. But we've also never had 4 of that caliber either. Endless potential with this group.

I think we'd keep 4. 2 primary move or receiving TE's in Pitta and Maxx, and then 2 in line, more traditional TE's in Crockett and Boyle.

Personally I think it's our best bet on offense. Get your best players on the field and primarily run 2 TE's. Gillmore and Pitta start.

Great run formation so it would help make us less predictable. And from there you can flex Pitta out into the slot or even out wide.

Id happily sacrifice a WR roster spot for an extra TE. I mean right now, get rid of Marlon Brown and keep Pitta. Pitta can do everything Marlon can, and Marlon can't do anything that Pitta can.

We need pass catchers. I'd happily drop Brown to keep Pitta. Or move Waller down to PS to activate Pitta.

May take a little hit on ST but we need playmakers right now and Pitta at the very least is a set of reliable hands with Joe's trust that converts on 3rd down and is a red zone threat.

We have dead weight at receiver right now. Get the best players on the field and if we have 4 TE's that are in the top 6 as far as receiving targets go - keep em.

Aiken, Givens, Pitta in the slot, Gillmore at TE and either Forsett or Buck in the back.

Maxx rotates with Pitta and Boyle with Gillmore. Heavy dose of 2 TE's. Great run and pass formation. Shoot even go 3 TE's at times.

Aiken Pitta Gillmore Boyle/Maxx is better than:

Aiken Brown Gillmore Boyle/Maxx.

--

And I think if Pittas ready to play he has a spot. If the team was just gonna say no to him... "Sorry we don't have room" they wouldn't have dragged him on this long.

Flacco wants Pitta back.. And the $120 mill man gets his guy.

I want Pitta back, too. Sounds like everybody making the decision wants him back. Up to the doctors for the final "yes". Also, I love that you start by saying we need more pass catchers, and then you immediately suggest we cut receivers to make room. You should have said, "We need better pass catchers." And I agree. I actually think we make the cut elsewhere (maybe that other guy named Brown who never sees the field), or just bite the bullet and put the receiver who has had a bruised knee since July on the shelf. Isnt Waller on the IR? Would need to find someone else.

There's also no way we could carry 4 TE's. 3rd and long is inevitable in the game of football. Along with that comes a pass rush. We need guys quick off the ball and able to push down field. Looking at the potential 4 TE's, Gilmore is slow off the ball, Boyle is slow off the ball, Maxx must be/looks ever more slow off the ball, Pitta would be the only one of the guys that would help in this regard and no one even knows if he is going to play another down in the NFL.

Honestly I think we're going to carry 4 TE regardless because we're not cutting one. The only way I see us carry 3 TE is if one of them is injured. Otherwise we can cut a WR and likely will. Ross and Givens both have speed and a Butler has some speed although he's NOT the fastest.

If Pitta is able to come back, I would not be surprised to see Williams or Boyle come down with some mysterious hamstring injury and get sent to the IR.

Can you honestly justify sending one of our good players to IR to keep Marlon Brown? I don't make these decisions but I can't justify not keeping our TE who actually are good and do catch balls for a WR who's inconsistent here.

If Pitta comes back, Williams and Boyle will be fighting just to get a couple plays a game. None of the three have blown anyone away this year with their stats. I think it would come down to a potential redzone mismatch in the redzone in Brown and the complete lack of WR's depth. So I do believe Williams or Boyle would get sent to the IR.

No chance that happens to Boyle. Very, very slim chance it happens to Williams.

I can see Williams because I think he's dealt with a lot of injuries this year but not Boyle and I don't see either going unless they're legitimately hurt.

It would be hard for me to see him not come back at this point. Considering the Ravens have been holding on hope this long, there must be a minimal chance that he could recover from this and continue on with his football career.

...realistically though, how does one dislocate both hips so easily and consider coming back to play in the NFL..? I mean that last one was just freaky where he caught the flat route and fell over untouched. Hopefully they know something we don't which is most often the case anyway.
