Dennis Pitta

If he Plays again, I'd bet he never plays a full season. How much money are we on the hook for if we cut him next year? If it's cost efficient I think it's the smart move considering we have 3 tight ends that show promise. And don't make the money he does.

the man should sit out the season then retire.

his dead money would be cut in half if he does it next season.

no point in hindering the development of our young TEs at this point.

unless we are going on a 10 game winning streak.

He has been very instrumental in helping to develop those two.  Along with Gilmore.  He's been seen helping to coach alongside these guys.

If Ravens wants to become the next cowboys/packers, a run of 11 straight wins to get another superbowl.

who would ever deny us how great this franchise is?

lets say we barely scrap off winning 9ers.   Then pitta comes back, with doom, then webb, then perrimen.   we slowly creep to series of wins.

Somehow we win the cards game.   then we stun the hawks.   then no one expects for us to win the bungals @ their turf.  then we do.

then no one expects us to beat patriots @ their turf at playoffs.   then we do.   then no one expects us to beat donkeys @ their turf then we do.

then we beat the packers @ sb.

yup, i can dream can i??

Sounds a little familiar..  sort of, right???  2012, with Suggs and Lewis out, Pitta comes back too??? and 3 consecutive losses...  we make it to the big game???  I know, wishful thinking...  but we can all dream too.  LOLOL.

id like to keep him there.

thats probably the best way he can help us right now.

is going to be a real sad sight if he gets injured there.

I just wonder if that's part of the plan.  He'd be a great TE coach.

That doesn't mean he won't. Players knowingly risk injury all the time. We've seen players return to the field and we've seen guys retire early and surprise everyone. I'm a little tired of the speculation that he's just going to retire. He may, and I and many others wouldn't fault him for it, but he hasn't yet.

I agree! If he is done, why hasn't he filed retirement papers? Why isn't he on IR? I feel like there have been discussions that we don't know about, about Pitta wanting to play.

If he does play, I think it'll be after week 10 or so to ease him at practice to test the durability of the hip.

There are reports that Dennis Pitta will begin practicing today, but he is not expected to play Monday night.  I guess he was cleared at some point and looks like he wants to play.  I don't know how I feel about it, but it shows that he is dedicated to this team and to football, probably to a fault.  I just wish he was returning to a winning team, it would be a real boost to this team if he was.

Harbaugh said not to read too much into it that he is practicing. Most people seem to think that they are just seeing where he is at and that doctors have yet to clear him for contact.

Probably won't see him until the end of the year if at all.

Good to see him back, even if it's only testing it out. If he does decide he wants to come back and of course if he's cleared, it's the perfect season to do so. We can ease him in and see if he can handle it, and we wouldn't have to worry about him handling a heavy load or anything. We can afford these types of "experiments." I'm still not thinking he'll be back on the field, but if he happens to practice well and wants to give it a go, I'm more than happy to have him out there.

Starting today he has a 3 week window where he either has to be added to the 53 man roster or put on IR.  I would bet he has a higher chance of being shut down then activated, but we will atleast know soon.

No doubt the competitve juices are going. Pitta is always at the facility, around his teammates, on the sidelines at every game. All these close losses and anyone would think they have a shot at helping their team.

Whatever decision he makes, I hope it works out the best for him. He turned 30 in June, no spring chicken by NFL standards, but he is still young and has a young family.

This is what he was coming back from the first time around - http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Byrne-Identity-Dennis-Pitta-Talks-Excruciating-Injury-Coming-Back/cc360586-d5dd-4820-a8fa-3096a7138a5d

I'd love to see Pitta back, healthy of course. This team could use all the help it could get, and a pass catcher is a huge need at this point. I'll take an extra tight end on the field over Marlon Brown.

I'm just wondering if him returning to practice is even good for his long term health? I like to see Pitta back and back on the field making plays. Though he's had 2 of the same injuries and another injury would just make things worse for him long term. If he comes back and plays well, great. I just hope he decides to retire after this season to preserve his long term health.

Really ticked that I can't even make myself halfway excited about this news

There is still the slightest of chances we could make post season. Pitta as an extra option could do a lot more for this "offense."

I'll bet it's devastating to watch on the sideline for all the close losses when he knew that he would make that catch to win the game for us.

I hope everything good for him cuz I really don't want to see the worse of it.....hope God watching over him.....I don't think bad luck will be with someone for long and it comes and goes, just like life.....crossed fingers...

Can he play corner?

My question would be how this impacts next year. Say Pitta does come back and proves that he can play? His salary next year is not guaranteed. Many believed we would release him. If he comes back and plays, do we keep him, or release and try to sign for a lower amount?

And if the Ravens do sign him, where does that leave our TE group at? They would have Pitta, Gilmore, Boyle and Williams. They would never carry 4 TE's on the active roster, so that would leave Boyle and Williams fighting for a spot. Boyle has been playing better than Williams this year. Could they possibly put Williams on the PS knowing he would get picked up within a day? Especially since all the hoop-lah made of how the stole him off of a rival. Could they possibly release him?

If Pitta does return to the field, it would help Joe look for another trusted target. At this point, Joe is somewhat tunnel-visioned in focusing on SSS. Joe has a great history with Pitta and Joe needs to get back in to the habit of looking for and trusting other targets.

Funny thing is, I think he already has had an impact...  he's been helping to coach the young guys up.

Probably not but I'm sure he'll help the offense get more touchdowns rather than go 3 & out or have to settle for FG. I know you're being sardonic, but I'm sure some seriously believe this.

LOLOL..... and I was thinking... What about the defense?

The defense is the brown water, on the bottom of a dumpster fire garbage, but Pitta could have a huge impact in the passing game. If he's not ready, or he doesn't really see himself playing again, I hope he doesn't go. No need to risk his health.

I think we are getting far ahead of ourselves with Pitta.  To answer your question though, I think there is a good chance that we would keep 4 TE's or we would trade/release Pitta.  Another thought would be that Williams, Boyle and Juice would be competing for 2 spots.  I don't believe Juice's spot is safe next year, especially if Pitta comes back and we have 4 capable tight ends.

No way we get rid of Maxx Williams, he is a second round pick and tight ends usually don't produce until year 2 or 3
