[News] Staying Healthy Key Priority For Eugene Monroe

12 posts in this topic

Staying Healthy ALSO Key Priority for: Campanaro, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Urban, all of last year's CBs, Taliaferro, and Pitta. Outlook not great for Campanaro, and it's extremely delicate with Pitta, but I'm hoping those others go into the 2015 season at 100% and can stay injury-free, at least thru the first half of the season. Those first 8 games are going to be brutal (except maybe OAK) and we'll need all hands on deck.

Although Hurst survived he was a long shot from being a stable left tackle. Until Hurst improves it looks like we all better hope that Monroe gets and stays healthy. He wasn't exactly JO either but he is better than Hurst and he is all we have. Monroe was one of those free agents we traded for and paid the going rate. He needs to step up and show he's worth it or from what I have seen, he is a wasted investment. We talk about Campanaro coming in and being injured all the time, missing games and people are talking about getting rid of him and he was a rookie. Monroe is a vet and didn't play in any more games than Camp did last year.

I hate it when good players on bad team that miss the playoffs evry yr manage to stay healthy and when they are on a good team which makes the playoffs they are injured that sucks they can enjoy making the post season after all those years of losing i feel for those guys

Monroe is clearly a highly defined well cut physical specimen! However, does him being a workout warrior translate to functional ability on the field? There are two issues with him. One is his inability to stay healthy and two his propensity to get beat by quick pass rushers around the edge. Per PFF he hasn't been a great tackle so far with the opportunities he's had. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt with the assumption that he wasn't totally healthy, but.....

As stated in the article, Monroe had only missed 3 games in 5 years. Hopefully last year was an aberration, Monroe earned his salary with his play in Jville with a garbage supporting cast. Securing a middle of the pack LT is never a waste of an investment, you want us to bring back Oher or McKinney to protect Flacco? Nada. Monroe just needs to get healthy. Also to throw in as a caveat; not sure about what the Lags run down in Florida but its also very likely that Monroe wasn't 100% comfortable with the Zone blocking shceme Juan installed, causing him to think too much and play slower. Obviously this is just a guess but I'm hoping that after two full offseasons Monroe shows that he is a top 15 tackle in this league...all we need him to be. Unfortunately the Ravens dont get to dictate the market and 7 mill a year is just what it takes to protect a 100 million dollar investment in Joe

Agree. Injuries did make a difference with Monroe, but even before he was injured he really didn't show us what we thought he was. Coming into new system, new teammates all were a factor but in all honesty Monroe needs to step it up.

Prior to last season, he's missed 3 games in 5 years. Playing 77 of 80 games is pretty healthy.  Anyone who's dealt w/ a high ankle sprain will tell you that's not an easy injury to recover from w/out down time. That being said, he's far from injury prone.

This goes for any and all players, staying healthy is the key to success. An injury can happen anytime, even the freakiest and weirdest. It really comes down to luck. You can be healthy for 5-6 years straight and then get hurt. Some players get hurt every year, change teams and never get hurt again.

Let me ask my fellow Ravens fans this question: Of the 5 starting O-linemen that we currently have - Monroe, K.O, Zuttah, Yanda and Wagner, where would you put Monroe's production and talent level? If you are being honest, probably a tie between him and Zuttah. See, that is why Monroe needs to step it up on the field, like he does in the gym!
