[News] Late For Work 6/24: Why Ravens' Rookies Might Not Start This Year

54 posts in this topic

If there is one thing I dislike, it is homerism for a specific player, not their TEAM. Why couldn't Aiken/Brown/Butler or Gilmore start the season? By all accounts, especially Aiken and Gilmore, have been playing well the last time we saw them (both scoring TDs in the playoffs) and have been practicing even better this offseason. I absolutely love the Perriman and Williams picks and they will be important cogs in this offense, especially if Pitta is not ready for the season. But to just hand them starting jobs is ridiculous and in my opinion, counterproductive to them in the long run. If the staff feels they legitimately earned it, that's great. Thankfully, Harbs and company aren't just going to elevate them over other hard workers just because of draft status.

"Brady reportedly aced his appeal" According to who? The only people in that room would've been Brady, Goodell, and Brady's reps. We know Goodell isn't the one talking about it, so we have to assume it's Brady's people. OF COURSE they're going to say he aced his appeal. So sick of this stuff from ESPN and that fraud Schefter. All they/he does is act as a shill for whatever PR rep or agent calls him and tells him what they want him to say.

You are absolutely correct, most of the stories about this so far are coming off of local Boston media outlets, so they can control the message.  When you see the national media like ESPN cut away to local Boston reporters for insider scoops people should be wary. lol   Especially since Goodell is suspected to have put a type of gag order on those involved in yesterday's proceedings.  It is how the Patriot propaganda machine operates...and they have been in full swing for the last 8 months or so.  Typical Belicheck stuff, keep your mouth shut and we will control what the media gets, lol.

I doubt he would make such a boneheaded mistake, even if he was a diehard pats-fan.

He did, he wore a Boston hat while sitting with Kraft.

Man you need to read more articles, Gillmore is getting all the press from OTA and mini-camp. He's clearly the #1 TE right now since Pitta is out and it's not even close at this point.

He meant love from the fans.

Ray Rice would have been the perfect guy to speak at the Rookie Symposium. He could have related how no matter how much you do or how much time and money you give, and no matter what your reputation is or how much you think fans love you, it can all go down the drain in a heartbeat by one bad decision.

I had been thinking the exact same thing, Ray Rice would have been an extremely impactful speaker at the Rookie Symposium. There is no more appropriate player in the NFL than Rice who could deliver the message about magnitude of extreme consequences. Beloved by fans 1 day, unemployed as a hated villain the next. I realize there may be valid reasons to not want Ray Rice there. However, if the criteria in choosing a speaker on DV was to make an impact to get the attention of the rookies, Ray Rice was the perfect man to discuss real life consequences. Perhaps the NFL blew their best opportunity with a speaker who would have jolted every rookie to see how easy it truly is lose it all.

Reid at RT instead of Urschel wth? I know he has the wing span but Urschel is legit

Urschel is a legit Guard/Center, he doesn't play tackle. I don't like Reid either but come on, Urschel doesn't play tackle, if Urschel is playing then we'd be doing what we did in the playoffs and I'm sure the FO, not to mention Yanda himself, doesn't want Yanda to play RT.

NO NO NO ON REID ON RT.

Will this ridiculous rhetoric giving him a chance STOP??

CALMMM. Rick Wagner is hurt but he'll be back by pre season probably. No worries. I would rather see Hurst at RT but who knows, Jah might of actually gotten better. When was the last time we saw him start? I disliked him before also but give him another chance.

"Steelers to honor Jerome Bettis at prime time game vs. Ravens"

We might get rocked, things didn't go well the last time they honored a player...

They honor someone every time we play there in prime time.

I just want the best 53 guys on the active roster. I also want the best guys of the 53 men starting at each position. If the starter is a rookie and he earned it then so-be-it.

Just to keep the facts straight, according to Harbaugh and Chuck Pagano, nobody from the Ravens contacted anyone from the Colts about the balls. This is what he said on the Super Bowl pre-game:

"There have been unconfirmed reports that Harbaugh or the Ravens tipped off the Indianapolis Colts about the issue. The ongoing investigation, the so-called "Deflategate" led by NFL executive Jeff Pash and outside investigator Ted Wells, is based on allegations that the Patriots didn't have the footballs inflated up to NFL standards.

“I heard all that, I couldn't believe it when I heard it,” Harbaugh said Sunday afternoon on NBC during a Super Bowl pregame show when asked about the reports that the Ravens called the Colts. "It’s ridiculous. It never happened. I never made any call. Nobody in our organization made any call.

"Just to make sure I had all the facts, I called [Colts coach] Chuck Pagano this week and asked him, ‘Did anybody else in our organization tip you off about any deflated footballs?’ And he said, ‘No way.'"

This team is so deep with outstanding talent if a rookie doesn't a chance rite away is understandable!

Sometimes I wonder why they get certain players because of the depth at certain positions! I'm just sayin WR spot is loaded with talent some weren't utilized correctly and they go get Perriman! No diss I'm jus sayin!

The Bengals sign Keith Wenning today.

And in other Bengal news, ownership signs Marvin Lewis and Andy Dalton to one year extensions.... As long as those two are front and center, the Ravens are in a good position. With all that talent from all the high draft picks, they still can't get over the hump. Shows you how good the Ravens' entire staff is.

Very, very saddened to read about Brady's most recent report that he could be playing and that he "aced" his appeal. To me there really should be Only one question that matters. Did you, Mr. Brady, cooperate fully, totally, completely, and honestly with the investigation? Since he Refused to supply his cell phone which, reportedly, held pertinent information critical to help verify certain facts, it would certainly appear that he did not. He received assurances from the investigators that only information in reference to the subject being investigated would be examined and that his privacy would be very strictly protected. Yet, despite that assurance, he refused to cooperate and provide the information, thus the suspension. That's just the reality of what happened or, should I say didn't happen since he really did refuse to comply with the request for the messages. No matter what he, or his lawyers, may have said during the appeal the fact that he didn't fully cooperate didn't change. In fact, he was even given yet another opportunity to hand over the evidence and, once again, he refused. Where's the justice? Unfortunately, this may very well become yet another instance when fame, highly paid lawyers, and the power of the NFLPA prevents justice from being served. Personally, I will find it extremely sad and disgusting, even, if Mr. Brady does not serve the 4 game suspension levied by the Commissioner of the league. If "Cry Baby Brady" succeeds in weaseling out of his suspension, or even delays it, all it will do is encourage him, and his buddy Belicheater, to continue in their attitudes, that they already have, that they can do pretty much whatever they want with minimal or no consequences at all. Sad!!!

My God! The more I think about the roster Ozzie and gang has put together for 2015, I can't help but wonder which team out there can actually beat us? I mean really, which team out there is better in any category?? Short answer - NONE!

We are by far the deepest and most complete team in the NFL this year and that can only mean one thing - San Francisco!

Does anybody remember that photo of the Raven atop the Levi Stadium picture which spelled a good omen? Yes, the Raven is gonna prove right!

All of that sounds great on paper!

Put KO at RT and Urschel at LG...that line would be nasty
