[News] Late For Work 6/24: Why Ravens' Rookies Might Not Start This Year

54 posts in this topic

The multiple reports about the hearing that Brady gets an A plus and that he was so sincere and genuine make me want to puke. With dozens of lawyers in his corner, I am sure Brady had plenty of rehearsals and coaching for this epic performance/hearing. Just hope Goddell doesn't cave.

Gilmore will probably start over Maxx but there is no way I can see Perrimans speed and size sitting on the bench. As far Brady goes. If he gets away with this it will not only diminish his legacy but will also expose Goodell as the most corrupt commisioner in NFL history. The decision wont really effect my life but will define Rogers.

Good that finally the topic of high-picked rookies not starting right away came up at last on this website - but it could have happened much earlier. When some of us said it mkight be unfair to expect players like Maxx Williams to be a starter Week#1 and be an instant Heap 2.0 it was taken as criticism towards the rookies and negged a lot. It's been crystal clear while WR and especially RB has more and more become plug&play positions meaning the rookies often made the transition from college level to the NFL seemingly seamlessly, other positions, most notably QB and TE are still ones that usually takes a season or two for the players to make the switch. Pitta was nowhere near starting caliber in his rookie season - even Ed Dickson wasn't there in the first half of his rookie season. Eric Ebron, the concensus top TE rookie of last season was obviously not there in his rookie season. Does this mean any of them were/are busts? Of course not - it only means TE's need some time to make the transitions. It's the position, not the players themselves. It would be awesome to see Williams come in and be the starting TE Week#1 - but I don't think we should expect that. Not because he doesnt have what it takwes - but because it takes time.

That's why I've been saying throughout the off-season that TE is our most glaring hole in the starting lineup - even after we got Maxx Wiliams and Boyle. TE needs veteran presence, and we certainly can't count on Pitta for sure at this point. If he can come back and contribute, that would be awesomne - but sadly we can't count on that at this point. That leaves us with Crockett Gillmore as our most "veteran" TE probably available - and I'm not sure we should plan our TE strategy around him - JUST YET. Once again, it's not about Gillmore's abilities or talent - it's about him being a sophomore. That's why I say we still need a reliably available veteran catching TE. If it ends up being Pitta, that's great. But we need a plan B in case Pitta can't come back and contribute Week#1.

It would be great if the Patriots and Stoolers could both be given losses for that first game against each other. As a Ravens fan I hope Brady can play in that game to give them a better chance to beat Pitt. Move his suspension (through injunction) to later in the season so that it disrupts their season even more

Did'nt Goddell show up at Gellett stadium when the Ravens played the Patriots with a Patriots hat on?

I doubt he would make such a boneheaded mistake, even if he was a diehard pats-fan.

My God! The more I think about the roster Ozzie and gang has put together for 2015, I can't help but wonder which team out there can actually beat us? I mean really, which team out there is better in any category?? Short answer - NONE!

We are by far the deepest and most complete team in the NFL this year and that can only mean one thing - San Francisco!

Does anybody remember that photo of the Raven atop the Levi Stadium picture which spelled a good omen? Yes, the Raven is gonna prove right!

I say we are stronger than havng to count on other teams' missing key players ;) Let's beat them steelers and then it won't count ;)

Actually he wore a hat that had a B on it during the Ravens/Pats divisional playoff game.  Many assumed it stood for Boston.  Who knows.

Brady being the drama queen that he's shown to be is going to ace the hearing. However, frauds can only deceive so far and I think Brady (Fraudy) and his cheating ways has run its course. In fact, the poetic justice to this whole saga would be to increase his suspension to a whole year!

Mr Goodell better get this Brady thing right. The whole football world is watching. And Brady better just take his punishment the football world is watching him too.

This was all set up by Goodell to protect the league from a congressional investigation. Belichick ran the whole thing. The total fine was only $250K and a fourth round pick more than spygate.

They exonerated the team and Belichick specifically so they wouldn't be repeated offenders.

Belichick in return tanked his draft (hurt 1st rounder, 5th rounder in the 2nd round, long snapper in the fifth round who won't play for 5 years due to navy commitment).

But the best is that he literally 'cut a corner' hours before each major turning point this (Denard the morning of the Wells report released, Arrington the morning of the Patriots punishment release, JAG corner cut the night before Kraft's morning accepted his punishment). They all made no sense except as a metaphor, Bill was told that to keep his name out of this that 'all the corners he cuts now' will be the ones he is told to and if he tries anything funny then he will be forced to cut more players. They will threaten him with the Rams SB walk through tape.

When he was threatened by the players association for illegally keeping his corner out of voluntary practice for a month that afternoon he was forced to cut Tim Wright again making no sense. Wright was immediately claimed off waivers by the first priority team the bucs. This whole thing is bigger than what we have been led to believe.

Maxx Williams may be #2 to Dennis Pitta to start, but I do not see Dennis finishing the year, healthy! :(

Really wish he would call it quits!

And, every year, we have a Super Bowl-caliber team (according to some fans   ) and then a strange thing happens -- :ref:  ... and the regular season starts!

I want Maxx Williams to succeed as much as any Ravens fan, but I cannot for the life of me understand why Crockett Gillmore doesn't get more love. He was the only rookie TE to get a positive grade by Pro Football Focus. He was just starting to get involved in the passing game towards the end of last year, but his blocking was good all season. Jason Worilds slapped him in the playoffs, and he came back and scored a touchdown on him. He's already part of the rivalry. And he has a cool name. I for one am on the Crockett bandwagon.

Man you need to read more articles, Gillmore is getting all the press from OTA and mini-camp.  He's clearly the #1 TE right now since Pitta is out and it's not even close at this point.

I deal with a lot of casual fans, and they typically give me a quizzical look when I say his name.

The point is, none of the WRs that are competing with Perriman have the ability to really stretch the field. That's why most people are hopeful that he shows well enough through camp and pre-season to be on the field for significant snaps this year.

aside from the ota articles, a lotttt of fans are sleeping on him. It seems that some forget he's even in the equation. No question he will be the starter week 1. As far as Brady, what I would love more than Anything is for him to take it to federal court- get on the stand and lie some more under oath- and then for the ball boy to just come out of nowhere and break his silence. Better yet both both of the guys that were involved come out and spill the beans about the whole situation and explain how Brady orchestrated the whole thing and repremanded them for not doing the balls correctly. Then Brady gets suspended the entire season for stirring up so much malarkey and wasting everybodys time.

Williams and Davis will most likely not start right away, but I am very confident that Perriman will be starting at some point in the season, if not week 1. The reasoning they gave for him not starting was pretty terrible. They listed a bunch of undrafted players he's competing with, none of whom had more than 300 yds in the NFL last year. Yeah, some of those guys have looked good in mini camp, but so has Perriman, and none of the other players are going to be drawing double coverage and providing the speed and playmaking ability Perriman does. Perriman won't have the starting job handed to him, but based on his ability and what I hear about his attitude, he is the clear cut favorite to be starting alongside Steve Smith.

Basically hensely like always exaggerates on certain things i believe that more than likely and i've been saying this all along perriman will be in some packages because of his speed but more than likely aiken or even butler are more likely the starters and also for some of you that forgot last year the west coast system doesn't really benefit deep threats remember how torrey well less involved only with short quick routes something perriman has yet to develop

like alway's no one talk's about the KICKER,they account for 35 percent of the point's and this year will JUSTIN TUCKER will be even more important to the RAVEN'S,with the new rules,he will probably account for a few win's on his own as he is a freek himself,I mean come on 67 yarder's at practice!,well I just wanted to give him some love too!love ya bra.

Brady and the Pats will probably get off again. Can't stand what the Pats stand for and the league and media just adore them. What crud if no punishment.

Ray Rice would have been the perfect guy to speak at the Rookie Symposium. He could have related how no matter how much you do or how much time and money you give, and no matter what your reputation is or how much you think fans love you, it can all go down the drain in a heartbeat by one bad decision.

"Brady reportedly aced his appeal"

According to who? The only people in that room would've been Brady, Goodell, and Brady's reps. We know Goodell isn't the one talking about it, so we have to assume it's Brady's people. OF COURSE they're going to say he aced his appeal. So sick of this stuff from ESPN and that fraud Schefter. All they/he does is act as a shill for whatever PR rep or agent calls him and tells him what they want him to say.

Not for one second, do I believe Perriman and Williams not start. 1) Without Perriman Ravens dont have a TRUE deep Threat since Torreys gone, and with question marks around Pitta, we dont have a no.1 WR TE Williams fits that void immediately.

Brown and Aiken are good complimentary pieces that work the middle, but your not winning Superbowls with them as target A and B... More like target D and E. Last SB run Flacco had Boldin,Rice, Pitta,Torrey,Jacoby...

Dont try and sell me Aiken,Brown as more then complementary parts. This team will win because Perriman, Wallers are at worst Torrey and Jacoby 2.0 and possibly Marshall and Jeffrey Twin Towers Combo, then add Forsett and Buck Allen(miniRay Rice do everything RB) then add the TE grouping we now have with Williams, Gilmore, Maybe Pitta and that other rookie TE.
