[News] DE Chris Canty Impressed With Young Linemen, Still Expects To Start

I hope he stays healthier than his previous couple seasons. The Ravens defense needs a couple veteran presences... Great player who has had a great career. Keep it up.

I would still love Ozzie to get Red Bryant DT for a veteran presence there as well and plus he can blocked FG's. Maybe Ozzie can get him for a 1 or 2 year deal.

How can you get a staph infection in your wrist?? At 6'& 7" He absolutely should be the D tackle blocking that PAT.

It would be nice, but I think in terms of a proven veteran- the WR/TE corps is in much more need than the Defensive Line. Flacco's basically got just Steve Smith Sr. as a proven veteran receiver. At 36, Steve Smith would definitely benefit from a second veteran WR to share the load so he's not completely worn down by the end of the season. I'd much rather see Oz sign a veteran receiver or TE than a veteran D Lineman. Just my two cents.

I would agree with you because we have unproven targets, but from what I heard, they like the talent they see and it sounds like they will be having a hard time deciding which 6-7 will stay on the roster. Same with tight ends with the 4. I think defensive line or linebacker would be the best place for the money to go with Suggs feeling older, Dumervil being a one trick pony there is no one behind them on the depth chart outside of Upshaw who they claim is only good at stopping the run. If one were to go out who would fill those shoes? Also inside linebacker because of CJ Mosely coming off of a surgery and Daryl Smith starting to age they need to find someone to play behind them.

Staph infections can come from a scrape plus they can travel to different parts of the body. If it gets bad enough it could cripple or even kill a person.

I like what were hearing. mostly from veteran players. It is still very early but this team looks very promising on all fronts.

He's still good for a few good plays a game, especially when worked into the rotation we have going on so he's not on the field to much. His experience should also pay dividends with teaching our young guys.

On the defensive front guys tend to be too big to play on the kickoff or punt team. So the name ofthe game there is rotation. Stamina issues require the big men to constantly keep subbing in and out and there's little space between "starters" and "backups."

Special teams is the domain of backup WRs, TEs, RBs, LBs and Safeties.

Offense takes up a good 19-21 spots between starters, good backups, and rotational guys at WR, TE, and RB by committee.

Defense takes about the same when you figure in good depth and rotation.

That leaves 11-15 guys that can make it on special teams and be solid backups.

All this goes to say that I think a few of us are overly worried about having to part with good talent.

If Lewis-Moore and Urban stay healthy, Canty could be gone. With all this talent we have on the D-line, someone needs to step it up and take a leadership role.

The way these guys move around I look at it as a defensive front seven as opposed to DL and LB. That being said, this is one of the most talented and deepest front sevens in the NFL. If Urban and KLM pan out it will be the best (and one of the youngest). The way they shut down NE's and Pitt's running games in the playoffs last year was truly impressive. With a stronger secondary this could be a very good defense. Come on September.

We need Canty on the field reading the opposing offenses.

He's the older soldier in the trenches. Canty goes by instinct and knows how to teach the younger players around him. With him out there, our defensive line will hold like a stone wall.

Not on a losing team in a decade and the whole of his career? Wow, that's some impressive feat! Canty is not physically what he used to be and he knows it, but he is one of the smarter players I have seen and can provide leadership, that is missing for the DL. With young and very physical talent on the roster, mainly Brandon Williams and Timmy Jernigan, it is not 100% that he can be a starter the whole season, especially as the wear and tear kicks in, but even off the field, he is a valuable asset, being able to coach the young squad, provide leadership and mentoring. This is one guy I believe to be smart and elaborate enough, that he will make a career as TV football reporter and commentary once he hangs the cleats. He's that smart, that mature and that elaborate. I hope to see plenty interviews with him still in the locker room as a valuable Raven player and look forward to see him play and provide his insight in press.

The Ravens front seven did nothing to stop any run game in the play offs. Both the Steelers and Patriots knew how bad the secondary was and threw against the Ravens defense a total of 95 times. That's an average of 47.5 passes a game. The Patriots I don't think ran a running play since the beginning of the second quarter. Saying the defense held any run attack is false because there was none because they exploited the weakness and attacked against it over and over again.

Well, okay. How about the 2014 season's third-lowest yards per carry average? We're pretty stout against the run, no matter how you slice it.

"All but one of the 13 defensive linemen are 26 or younger. Chris Canty, 32, is the "old head" of the group!"

This is huge and bodes well for our continued success in the future! :D

With both Williams and Jernigan expected to reach their projected potentials and should Kapron-Lewis and Urban do the same, Oz will be hard pressed to keep them all,....

And as with every other year with the OLBs,... I, for one, will be [pleasantly] sad and angry! :229031_rant:

Is it just me or does this off season seem.......

different? I start drinking the purple kool-aid about this time every year but this just feels like we're going to crush some people this season.

I think we'll need a couple more statue's in front of M&T. Cass, Biscotti & Decosta dressed as the Tin Man, the not so cowardly lion and of course, the great and powerful Oz! :-)

I see a Dynasty in the making!

GO RAVENS!!!

During the season it was 4th which is great but don't say that our rush defense was great when New England literally ran the ball 4 times the entire 60 minutes we played them. False advertisement. Honestly we still don't know how the rushing defense will be without Ngata. I hope Jernigan steps up and doesn't have a sophomore slump.

I agree I think it is actually because the Ravens went after offense in this draft to give Flacco some targets. I bet we see flashes of Perriman all season long. Excited that offensive players finally fell down their board in the draft. The defensive depth is pretty great outside of linebacker.

I think that Canty start for the first 3 0r 4 games of the season and then sees his playing time diminish as Urban and KLM get more comfortable and show more in limited reps. He is winding down a great career and these two will begin to amp up their own. I look for Canty to make a solid contribution but for KLM and Urban to really take the next step!

I did not realize the implications. Thanks for the info.  I've heard of it in hospitals but never on a football field.   I would assume someone ignores the disease and all this goes to def com 5.  Apparantly, the negs prooved that. Oh well.
