[News] Eisenberg: Webb At Returner Worth Considering

53 posts in this topic

Why is this even an option? Outside of receiving a punt ONLY to fair catch it, why risk it? Considering what happened in our secondary last season, putting a CB on the field for returns only increases his chances of getting hurt. #JustDumb

If Butler is as sure-handed and fast as this article states, give him a shot at returner. He makes the roster as a WR/ST player who isn't a starter.

While I like Lardarius Webb, and I am glad his is a Raven, I think he is just an average returner and he hasn't really done much returning since 2011. There must be someone else on the team that is at least just as average who could take those bonus special teams snaps from an aging player who already has a full-time job at a vital position. Is this really how the Ravens want to expend an eight million dollar a year commodity?

I like making Defenses pay for blitzing. As much as I liked what Kubes brought to the team last year, I thought at times we could have been more aggressive in our adjustments on offense. The Texans game was hard to watch. They had our number and Kubiak didn't seam to know what to do about it. So it would be great to roll into Denver in September, when Kubiak and the Broncos will think they have us pegged, for Trestman and our offense to put the hammer to em...!

Same goes for Pittsburgh and their new fast defense.

JB (Jeremy Butler), Steven Means, Brent Urban, Breshad Perriman, Maxx Williams, Buck Allen, Kamar Aiken and Zadarius Smith are all going to be tremendous players for the Ravens! I mean every single one of them will make an impact moving forward. And remember I haven't even brought up the second year guys like Jernigan and Mosley! In a few years, the Ravens front office will be lauded for picking these guys!

Granted, this could be one of the most talented Ravens teams over time. Keep in mind it is a shorts and jersey no contact practice. I'd imagine the Cleveland fans are excited about the Browns right now too and they are 5 years away from being 5 years away.

Joe's comment that "they are trying some new things so when teams come after them, we can hurt them a little bit more" will be most critical on our opening game against Kubiak's Broncos. For the moment, 1 could say that Kubiak has the definite edge to know and anticipate many of our offensive plays so really glad to hear Trestman is adding to the play arsenal. It will be a definite chess match between the coaches in Denver and  it's reassuring that Trestman is already throwing some of his own new plays in to the mix. Will need some unfamiliar plays in order to start this season off right with a very important win.

OK I considered it. Heck NO. The guy has a hard time staying on the field now. That idea has to be the craziest idea I heard unless your looking to get him hurt again and cut him.

Making a defense pay for coming after Flacco is something I think everybody here can get behind. Enters Forsett and Allen. Two fast shifty guys who can catch out the backfield and provide as a backup safety blanket if Wiliams or Pitta is covered. A couple draw plays out the Shotgun would also make those Defenses back up too. With Williams and Perrimen and forsett and allen, we have all the speed we need to kill a defense either out the backfield, up the seams or on the outside. pick your poison AFC NORTH.

I remember the saints game we played last season when vaccaro and smith sr got into it. The saints got all riled up and on the third down play decided to send everybody at flacco, we made them pay on that play. The crowd was silenced, lol so yeah, i think we would all love something like that

hell no on webb returning kicks. someone else will emerge. i like deandre carter possibly in that role. campanaro would be another possibility but he may not even be in the league much longer if he continues to miss time with injuries.

I hope Webb does not return punts. We need him healthy and playing DB. They need to find a young guy who is skilled at catching and running and give him the job.

Every year we have somebody who stands out in these camps. I can't remember all their names mellete, the guy they called little ed reed, etc. But I think Jeremy is the real deal. If he can carry this performance through training camp and preseason games he may turn out be a starter. Who knows? maybe.

hmmmm.....NO....did we not learn from all the CB's we lost last year due to injury??? If we can get through camp, with both J.Smith, and Webb healthy we will have a very strong CB duo, with Arrington in the slot, and even Melvin playing in certain packages....Let Carter, or Camp win the PR/KR duties.....

I can think of a few reasons why it makes sense to have Webb return kicks. I will now list them all. Here ya go.....

Pitt's D is a shell. It is NOT going to be very strong! That O is going to be the strength of that team again this season.

this can't be stressed enough, starting out the season with a win on the road, against conference contender Denver mind you, will be absolutely HUGE to set the tone for the entire season. Kubiak will definitely think he has our number, and it could very well be a dog fight. But if we go into their stadium and our secondary shuts down Peyton and our offense gets clicking early, This will really get our guys confidence going. If we get past them we have a real good shot to start off the season 2-0 (although I'm not writing off Oakland completely) and if we can Atleast split our afc north games we will be in extremely good shape. It's not an easy task, but if anybody can do it , it's this group. This is going to be a dangerous team guys, I can't help it I'm pumped! As far as Webb returning kicks, he can "want it" all he wants. It's not happenin. Maybe situationally, but my guess is he will get beat out for the job anyway. Edited by January J

No it's not worth considering, Webb can't even stay healthy for a full season. Why risk getting one of our starting CBs/leaders on the defense hurt? Webb only worry about playing defensive back PLEASE.

I don't want Webby as our primary punt returner but if he'll become our best option then so be it. You put the best guy on the field at all positions.

Do not I repeat do not put Webby at punt returner. It's to risky and too important to this team. The season depends on Jimmy and Webb to stay healthy to have a chance at a championship and we can't risk that.

Eisenberg, if Webb is so smart about avoiding injury, explain why he has battled so many of them. I'm sorry, but I just don't like the thought of him handling punt returns. He's too valuable to our defense, and I just don't believe that just because he's turned 29 that gives him, instantly, the ability to avoid injuries. As far as I'm concerned returning punts should not be an option with him and we should just play him at CB, and CB alone. Just one fan's opinion.

Eisenberg, why are you building a case for Webb as punt returner? Now he seems healthy, so let him just roam the secondary. He gets banged up again, he's probably gone. We can't consider the thought that Webb will run back punts. .

Webb has it hard enough staying healthy just playing CB. No way he gets the job as returner. They may let him go back there and field a few like he's done in the past, but nothing more than that. The job is likely to be either camps or carter's imo
