[News] TE Dennis Pitta Not Medically Cleared Yet

20 posts in this topic

It's looking more and more like Gilmore with be the starting TE. And that's not a bad thing. He's shown he can get it done in both aspects of the position. Looking forward to seeing the future of the ravens TE position working together for the first time. Joe has to be excited with this much talent to work with.

I'm fine with Dennis Pitta playing. It's his choice. If he feels good about his hip then let him play. If not he shouldn't play. He loves football and wants to play what he loved. But he has to remember about his health, his well being first so if his hip is healthy then play football Dennis. :)

It's not Cap-sensible to release him this year, but being on the PUP doesn't count against the 53.

If he can play by TC he will be on the 53 man roster. If not, he'll be placed on PUP for the first 6 weeks. After that depending on how the young TEs are doing, he'll either be brought back or will go on IR.

I agree giving the young guys a shot but everyone should remember Crockett Gillmore is our most experienced tight end right now and he had barely over 100 yards last season. I am just as excited to see younger guys contribute, but the Ravens may lack that experience at tight end at least for the first handful of games of the 2015 season and that may hurt their play off chances with the tough schedule they face. Just pointing it out there that if Pitta is medically cleared he will play just because of his experience. Because it may backfire on Baltimore. Honestly the Ravens have the deepest roster of talent than any other team this coming season but the problem is that is relying on a lot of young guys and if they do not produce then Baltimore can easily be an 8-8 team again or they can potentially be a 13-3 team with first round bye and home field. I hope the coaching staff gets them prepared before Denver and so on.

I think we all would like for Dennis to return at full strength and his health intack, but no full  guarantee here. However, if he doesn't that would leave the Ravens in a very precarious situation with Mr. Gillmore the only experienced TE. And if he does there is the possiblilty of losing a good prospect in Boyle [ unless he winds up on injured reserve] What's Harbs and the Oz to do? Stay tuned for " AsThe Ravens Turn". ;)

How many players can be placed on PUP?  It was already stated that Brooks was going to start the season on PUP.   Brooks' PUP status may change after hearing how fast he's recovering.

For his own sake, I hope he retires. He's a great guy and a seems like a stand up person, he shouldn't risk his health like this. His second injury was without any contact...how high do you imagine the risk is, when defenders start pounding him right against that hip?? Because it's bound to happen. I would love to see him play for the Ravens one more time, but at the same time I don't want to see him become a cripple for the rest of his long life.

Dennis has been one of my favorite Ravens for basically his whole career. For the sake of his and his family's future, I hope that we've seen the last of him on the field. I don't like saying that because I really do think he was an exceptional player and I, personally, enjoyed watching him perform. But, there are more important things in life than football and your quality of life with your family is one of them. I think I may have read, at some point, that for contractural (financial may be a better word) reasons it would benefit him more to wait to retire until next year. Something about guaranteed money. If that's the case, fine, Dennis, wait. But, please, stay off the field. To be honest, from the team's stand-point, I actually think the roster spot he would take up could be used more wisely for someone else. Yeah, I'll miss him, but, personally, I think it best for him to be on the IR this year unless that guaranteed money situation I mentioned wasn't accurate. If that's the case, then just bite the bullet, Dennis, and go home and enjoy your family. You're a good man and you don't have to prove anything to anybody. If I had to watch him go down again like the last time, without even any contact, that would pain me. Best wishes, Dennis. Do what's best for you and your family.

If he was smart, he'd retire and raise his kids. Perhaps a commentator or ombudsman for a business would be better suited for his physical condition at this point in his life. And if the team takes him on again they run the same risk as the last 2 years.

If I said it once I've said it a thousand times... He'll be back!

Post...  They're making this a story...  I agree.  The guy has had three times the allotted time to recover as compared to his first injury.  He's taking it easy for a reason right now.  Let the guy decide for himself.  Don't write him off too soon.  At least I'm not.

I agree with almost everything you said. Except how easy you guys make it seem for the guy to just walk away from his dream that he's been working on for years. I was a professional athlete and like pitta injuries crippled my athletic career. I was lucky enough to get an education at a well respected school and eventually accept the fact that my body just can't take that kind of a beating. It took me 4 years to accept the fact and move on. Today I still play semi pro games and I'm in a lot of pain for 2 or 3 days after each game. My mom calls me stupid at times but seriously..... I'm gonna break down at 40-45 regardless. I'd doesn't matter to me if i break down a few years earlier. But until then..... I'm gonna run until I fall. It keeps me alive. I'm sure pitta is going through similar deamons in his head but his inner voice is telling him no freakin way am I going to walk away.

God bless and good luck pitta. Take your time making your decision and whenever your made up your mind don't look back!

Can fans just let Dennis make up his own mind? It is his and his family's place to decide. No one else's. I wish Dennis the best..... whatever decision he makes.
